State of Ezreal patch 6.8

So as many of you know, Iceborn Gauntlet is getting a nerf due to it being too strong on many top laners and junglers. What will happen to its sole bot lane patron, Ezreal? In preparation, I played a normal game with the old school Ez build, manamune -> triforce.

It felt rediculously weak. I was actually pretty fed that game, but the extra ~1000 gold for the item made it feel terrible. I felt like I was actually doing less damage with triforce than I would with iceborn + vamp scepter.

I understand that one normal game isn't a conclusive test and so am not trying to prove to you guys that triforce Ez IS weak. I just wanted to share my experience with it and discuss whether it will become the standard build following patch 6.8 or if iceborn will still be good.

Better question Who cares?

Maybe now he'll start building items he should actually be building instead of tank items.

Well, the issue with building standard ADC items on Ez is that...he basically becomes a weak ADC with a blink. As opposed to the poking/kiting machine that is blue Ez. Like it or not, blue build is Ezreal's niche, and without it I can't think of a reason to ever pick him.

Idk, I've been tooling around with a crit centered Ez build. And I've had mixed results. The extra AS you get from his passive can make for some dirty dps but auto attacking on ezreal always feels clunky and unrewarding for how low his attack range is. I think with the iceborn nerf we'll see Ez fall competely out of the meta. His kit is pretty hard to balance imo. I don't think he's been in a healthy balanced spot for a while. He's either ridiculously op or useless after 30 minutes. Another problem is if you lower the cost of Tri Force to make it more efficient, Corki will absolutely ruin the meta. but Corki is another issue entirely. Idk I mained ez for a while last season but with blue being the only viable option this season I don't have as much fun with him as I used to. Sorry that was a lot and was kind of rambling.

TL;DR - Ez is weird and hard to balance and could use a small rework/retooling of his kit but it'll never happen because he's a fan favorite. Just my opinion.

Eh, Ezreal's attack speed steroid is pretty lackluster. It's only advantage is that it has indefinite uptime.

What about a build such as Triforce->Essence Reaver -> IE -> Shiv?

Tri Essence IE, and I like Bork or BT that late in the game. You already have 60% crit chance with the other 3 items. And idk 50% as for free is fine but I agree its nothing as strong as Twitch, Jinx, Tristana, Kog Maw. It's something I've been tooling around with. His limited AA range can be tough but if you can get in range you do bogus dmg. Not to mention your Q and Ulti's AD scaling both are pretty solid. He's in a weird spot. I think the iceborn nerfs arent enough to make Blue ez unplayable. We'll have to see when 6.8 drops though.

I'm not highly skilled by any means, but I've played a ton of ezreal over the years he's my favorite champion. From what I see, if your team has mutiple damage dealers and won't rely on you heavily for damage output, go blue build. If your only damage dealer on your team is you and the ap mid, and the rest of your team is tanks, go Tri force. If you get ahead early in lane and rush murmana/triforce, your damage is still very scary high and that combined with your safety makes you an extremely potent force in the game still. The small sheen nerf is noticeable, but not detrimental.
