Tank update releases oh look a popular champion's DNA has been changed oh no several thousands will have to readjust their play-style rather than executing the champion the same as before.. but no lets listen to people complain who have not readjusted and over buff him instead.

If you stopped by the zac subreddit, we mostly complained about how the rework made Zac less fun to play. I know I wasn't the only one asking for the ultimate to be reverted, and it is obvious that ultimate is one of the least fun abilities to be on the wrong side of.

The Zac rework is a complete disaster from beginning to end. First was when they decided to change Zac from a diver into a tank (more cc, less damage). Second, they put it on the PBE for just 2 weeks. Not enough time to properly test the changes and find all the bugs. Third, they ignored Zac mains who asked to revert the ultimate while it was still on the PBE. Fourth, when it went live, Riot panicked when Zac's winrate was way too low because people tried to play Zac like a diver instead of a tank and buffed Zac's damage instead of just giving him the quality of life fixes he needed (which should have been found and fixed while it was on the PBE). And now, here we are. Zac mains hate the rework, and the player base hates the rework. GJ Riot, mission accomplished, you effectively deleted Zac.

Oh, and something to keep in mind, Zac's ultimate lost over 60% of its potential damage in the rework. Zac doing damage is not the problem, his CC is. Give back his damage, tone down his CC, and everyone will be happy.

Zac needed to lose that damage and I'm happier with him not having it. :/ He didn't build damage before his rework and could still one shot you while being completely unkillable himself; that is not how a champion should work in the least. Now if they were willing to trade out his survivability in exchange for his damage, sure. Make him an AP Bruiser/diver who has to build damage in order to do damage. But don't make him a fucking Diving Tank who can buy Cinderhulk, Randuins, and Abyssal and still one shot your carry from fog of war with one spell rotation. That's just not fair and he did need his damage toned back.

That said, Zac didn't need a rework and neither did Sej or Maokai. :/ They didn't even touch the two tanks I felt needed them the most until after the class update and then they essentially ruined at least one of them. Rammus feels terrible to play after the mini rework they put on him and they didn't even touch Malphite in the least. They could have reworked Rammus, Malphite, Singed, or Volibear and any one of them would have needed the rework more than Zac, Sej, or Maokai. :/

All your other examples need reworks more intensive than a roster update though.

Hecarim, Vi, and Nocturne can do everything you said pre-rework Zac did, but they don't need to land skillshots to kill you or dive you and did plenty of damage with only one dedicated damage item. Also, not sure if you noticed, but people hate playing against the reworked Zac even though he does much less damage now. His cc seems a lot less fun to deal with then his damage. Bring back the damage, neuter the CC, and Zac will be in a healthy place.

Oh, and Sej really did need the rework, though I have no idea if that rework made her better or worse since I don't play her or have much experience playing against her.

Malphite is up for a Full VGU, so reworking him in this update would have been a waste. No idea what they plan for Singed, but he isn't a traditional tank, and his mains don't want him to be. Volibear is a completely different class, a Juggernaut.

Doesn't change the fact that the Tank update sucked though.

That is actually a common trend. Whenever they rework a champ, well the identity might not change, the play style does. Rengar mains are the same right now.

Kloqdq1 votes

Can't blame them. Rengar is all layers of fucked. Not saying he was good before the update but he didn't get any better after. From what I hear they have to build tank as that's the only viable build at this point.

HaIlMonitor1 votes

Rengar is a champ that has Players ADC's will complain about because they dont want to get good.

To be fair he was kind of bullshit on his rework. I do think prior to it he wasn't bad. He found success with some and he was a strong people for them. The rework fucked that up hard when they gave him CC immunity while also having more burst on his ult. He was pretty stupid to deal with.

Kloqdq3 votes

Honestly it can be summed up like this.

"Zac has one of the strongest ults that has very little satisfaction to use."

I honestly believe if they went back to his old ult, he would find himself in a really good place. His ult wasn't a problem. Hell Zac wasn't a problem. His q change is fine and I am happy for the little touches in everything else but really, just revert the ult. It's what everyone wants and it will solve the massive balancing problem he is becoming. Ryze showed how dangerous character movement is and Zac just hammers that home.

watching high elo jungler streams was all it took for me to have terrible visions of the future of zac's balance

Don't know for NA, but "our" high elo streamers were already aware of ZAC potential pre buff.

HaIlMonitor2 votes

NA thought he was bad and was doing poorly, then one day everyone started to ban him.

Release rework Zac was fucking terrible and then Riot massively overbuffed him. The crying wasn't wrong at the time.
