Mordekaiser "Rework"

By rework, I mean new Mace of Spades (Q). Sure it is thematically sound to the champion, but not to the champion's kit (especially noting that he is an immobile melee mage, which is fine being slow but powerful). Having an ability that requires an immobile melee mage to get in melee range to use it does not make sense because he will never be in range to use the spell almost never, just a spell to waveclear or kill monsters- things that don't run away, unless you are Mr.Crab. I won't post any other ideas because his kit is pretty solid and does not require any changes. Since Mordekaiser is pretty simple and easy, let's make this ability a little bit more difficult to use (a skill shot) to make the spell more rewarding for the player and add an element of counter play to allow the enemy to dodge the spell, increased isolated damage will remain.

Mace of Spades (Q): Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4 seconds; Cost: 25/32/39/46/53 Health; Range: 800 units Mordekaiser slams a chained mace at the target location to deal 80/110/140/170/200(+60%AP)(+80%bonus AD) magic damage to struck enemies. If an enemy is isolated this ability deals 65% increased damage.

Base damage is identical, while I increased the AP ratio and decreased the Bonus AD ratio. Isolation damage is same as Karthus' skittles where in his case the skittles deal 100% increased damage if they hit only one enemy, this is 65% increased damage if the mace hits only one enemy. So this is a direct buff to Mordekaiser's Q but in a healthy way and grants a reward system for landing the ability. The spell is a buff since it scales better damage-wise with items, but he can use it more often since it is not restricted to his basic attack; while it is a healthy buff because it is now a skill shot and hence can be dodged and allow for a counter play element to the spell- so everyone wins!.

Hope you appreciate the idea and have a nice day! ^.^ ~ Stacona

I think turning his Q into a skill shot is a cool idea. Just having it long in a circular area would be cool anyway. It would be cool to see his mace extend and smash something from range.

I just want a way for Morde feels like he has 3 abilities and an ult instead of 2 and an ult and this weird ability he can never get off because immobility and melee, without giving him CC and DEFINITELY not mobility, i think high damage mages are balanced because of the lack of mobility, plus you never say your Black Mage in Final Fantasy is fast, no, the Black Mage is always the slowest character but hardest hitter

That is kind of how it feels right now. I hardly ever get to use my Q without suiciding and have to hold off on it a lot. Giving him tenacity based on his Iron Man passive, Creeping Death self-cast buff, or a combination of the two might be something to consider. I talk about it a bit in my post.

Tenacity on champion kits is not good, and Riot is removing tenacity from champions--- the simplest way to do things without making morde op is making the Q a skill shot and function in a similar fashion as it does now so that he has an ability to go with his kit without changing morde at all

I don't remember an instance besides Zac and Trundle where they removed tenacity. It's not a very common mechanic that happens to fit his unstoppable force vibe. And changing his Q to a skill shot similar to Karthus Q would actually change his kit a lot. He would have no reason to melee ever and every melee mage needs a strong auto-attack game.

its the same mechanic he has now- isolated targets take more damage- the skill shot Q will have a travel time, so getting closer = easier to hit

they are working on an irelia rework - she is losing her tenacity passive

morde does not need a reason to be a melee, he is suppose to be a metal mage, not actually a tank

I don't think you've played Mordekaiser enough to understand. I am sorry.

understand what exactly? because i don't even think you know what morde does or is

I just disagree with your previous statement in its entirety. It seems that we have nothing more to discuss here.

I think his problems extend to more than just one ability. With this change, he now has 2 ranged basic abilities but still has his close-AoE DoT on his W. This ability usually encourages him to get in the thick of things, as it increases his resistances and deals damage around him and fills up his shield. So taking away his melee ability makes it even less cohesive, because now why would he want to get up near anyone?

I liked the old Morde days where he could basically wade into a teamfight and smacked things. I'd rather fix the problem with him being unable to catch anything instead. Keep the melee ability, but maybe make it so that while his W is active he gets either an MS boost or Tenacity boost or moves through units, so that it gives him the ability to get to his target and THEN smack them in the face with his Q.

So if they were to go with this idea, I think it'd have to be part of a much larger change.

The thing about his shield is that it is a support ability, so he can throw it on a teammate for the damage and make someone tankier - i really like his shield for that team aspect- plus it is ranged since he can throw it on a teammate who can actually get in the action- Morde cannot however.

The thing is I am fine for Morde to be a back line champion like a mage (still semi-close however) because he is a metal mage

Changing his Q to a skill shot keeps the ability the same, but allows it to fit with his kit, having a high damage and no mobility mage is better for the game who also has no CC unless you get twin shadows / rylais

It does not need to be a part of a larger change since a skill shot Q goes better with his kit that he already has - it makes Morde more viable without doing much to him

Perhaps, but he's not a Support. it's very nice of him to be able to help his allies - and like Galio, just being able to buff a teammate doesn't make him less of a mage. was just going a different route; your suggestion ass range to his kit which is a valid suggestion, I just think that giving him a tool to use his melee ability would have been another route.

Although on the topic of supports I like the idea of a support that uses the lain of the enemy to buff or aid their ally.. might look more into that.

Another good point. I think making his current moveset more viable is more a route I am willing to go rather than change his kit to just make him easier to play.

It would be cool if he gained tenacity based on how full his Iron Man shield was. Maybe have it scale up to 25 or 35% when he gets to cap. Or if he uses his Creeping Death (W) on himself, then he would gain Tenacity based on his shield while the buff is active and he could be completely immune if at 100% shield. Being a juggernaut completely without CC makes Morde pretty much countered by CC, so removing that weakness could either be just what he needs or just a little too much. Having this function interact with his ult in some capacity might be more balanced though.

Shameless plug, but check out my post: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Bd7JhLu1-mordekaiser-changes
