So I feel like Essence Reaver is the best rush here, in order to keep up mana for maximum Q spam, and have 30% CDR after two items to also maximize spam, as well as Ultimate usage.

Next Runaan, because it has the most attack-speed for stacking Blight, plus AOE to stack on multiple targets, plus now bolts will Critical Strikie which means even more Mana recovery from Essence Reaver.

Next comes the biggest split, BotRK / BT / MS / LW Item. I think it will depend on the match and what you're against.

BT/MS/LW are pretty generalist items, I think BotRK may synergize best with Varus though. More attack speed, more Blight stacking. Put HP shred in your HP shred. However the low AD will hurt your Q poke damage.

The Zz'rot Portal is only there for thematic reasons, but maybe it can contribute to sieging while you poke down at their towers?

I don't think Bork is needed with LDR being there. BT is a must due to flat AD and maybe death's dance or Ghostblade cant decide

I don't go death dance because Q is AOE

I looked at Ghostblade but I don't know about it

Also how do you feel about Cull vs. Doran

I like Dorans more because extra stats mean stronger early and i like feeling powerful in lane, but in Varus case he might benefit more of cull because i dont feel his laning is strong compared to other carries.

I haven't started thinking about playing him mid-lane, so ADC

how is midlane different?

he doesn't really have an escape, so unlike ez, quinn or lucian its not the best idea. I have done AP varus mid... I'm sure AD could work, it would just have to STRONGLY depend on who you are facing.

well usually you go for manamune then alot of penetration (bruts, lw, yommu) and cd, it was sort of reliant on having excess to early mana so you can spam your q but im struggling with the removal of mana pots.

it seems like people are still following the manamune build but it seems that esscence reaver is being the 3rd or 4th item

Varus has the highest range poke in the game, once you stablize your mana you can safely poke until you use chains of corruption and seal the deal, hes highly subtle to all in champions like fizz, lb, yasuo, zed and such which is bad because those are all popular champions.

If you're going for a CDR, build to spam Q etc, I would take whisper or bloodthirster over Botrk. Like you said depending on how the games going maybe opt BT over LW... The reason being is you're already going for the CDR to make your poke better... while attack speed is nice, between runaan's and your passive, you're good for at least a while.

BT and LW will allow that poke to hurt more. that HP shred won't add up to the same amount of poke you will be getting out of your Q. Obviously, if you opt for BT before LW, build LW right after.

after that I would start working on some more crit and start focusing on your teamfight.

after: Boots, ES, RH, BT, LW. you're either going survivebility or more damage...
