Hexdrinker is too efficient

Hexdrinker is a cheap, efficient item that pretty much shuts down any early magic damage.

  • Current: Recipe: item 1036 + item 1033 +20 Attack Damage +35 Magic Resist UNIQUE Passive: Lifeline Value of Raw Stats: 1330g Cost: 1300g (102.31% gold efficient excluding Lifeline passive)

In comparison, a mage pays 1100g for 18 magic pen item 3020 , the cheapest/fastest source of magic pen besides Sudden Impact, which is only usable on mobile mages/assassins. For just 200g more, their AD lane opponent not only gets enough MR to counteract your mPen purchase, but also get a decent amount of offensive power to boot (pun intended). Every point of MR costs 18g, whereas every point of flat mPen costs ~31.1g. For obvious reasons, there are few items that grant flat mPen or else mages would constantly be dealing true damage. The MR grants far more magic DR than the sorc shoes allows you to penetrate. I propose increasing the cost and lowering the amount of MR and even lowering the duration of the magic shield from 5s to 3s. So far this hasn't even taken the Magic Shield passive into consideration which grants a minimum of 110eHP vs magic dmg which is worth 293.33g. So in total the bare minimum efficiency is ~125% vs magic. Increasing MR indirectly increases the amount the shield absorbs, because of less magic dmg taken and therefore the shield value is effectively higher. So imagine you buy a item 3111 in addition to Hexdrinker, and you're set!

  • Proposed change Recipe: item 1037 + item 1033 +20 --> +25 Attack Damage +35 --> +25 Magic Resist UNIQUE Passive: Lifeline shield duration from 5s to 3s Value of Raw Stats: 1325g Cost: 1300g --> 1350g or higher (up to 1500g) (between 98.15% - 88.33% gold efficient excluding Lifeline passive)

This change isn't even a big nerf all things considered, it's to make it more fair & balanced.

Keep in mind that upgrading into Maw LOWERS efficiency and are paying a lot more for the passive! item 3156 = ~86.97% efficient. You are literally better off sitting on Hexdrinker until you can make good use of the Lifegrip passive, which bumps the efficiency of Maw to 120.05%.

I would say the cooldown of Hexdrinker needs to be doubled, with the cooldown of Maw staying where it is. Hexdrinker is fine as an early game item, but that shield needs to be easier to play around.

they don't like stuff like that, they could do something similar to qss and merc scim but they are refusing to make the less cost items less efficient

It's really strong even before you pop the shield, if you do.

not really the shield is what makes the item good, the flat stats are OK at best

I just proved it with Math that it is more than efficient, more than "OK at best"

nobody would get hexdrinker if it didn't have the shield tho, that's what I meant, you are talking like it's a broken item without it

So you don't value the MR stat on the item, only the shield? Even if it had no MR at all? I'm just curious to know if people really overlook/undervalue the 35 MR.

i do value the mr, i am just saying that the shield is what makes u buy it, why would anyone use 1300 gold for 20 ad and 35 mr with no passive ont he item

Because it gives both offensive & defensive stats. I'm not saying to remove the passive in my post. I simply suggested reducing the slot efficiency & the efficiency vs magic damage until you proc the passive.

Strong is pretty fine, particularly for an early game item. I agree it could use some adjustment, it just feels to me like the adjustment needs to be in the shield only. The item itself feels pretty alright.

I personally find it frustrating against but mostly fine ever since they nerfed the shield to scale per level so it doesn't completely screw you over the moment someone buy's it as it's first item. I think it could use maybe 50-100 gold extra cost but that's about it and really wouldn't make that much of a difference.

I would like Maw to be changed though. The CDR feels clunky on it and half the time the stats it gives don't make it worth upgrading from hexdrinker.

What stats would you like to see on Maw? A little bit of HP, perhaps building out of item 3044 instead of item 3133? Something else?

Hard for me to say in all honesty I don't think the build path is bad in all honesty, but I just don't see the passive fit on many bruiser's playstyles that should be building it. In my mind Maw should be the middle ground between Mercurial and Spirit Visage but right now you either build Mercurial if you need damage or Visage if you need tankyness almost never Maw.

I also think the passive is a bit awkward for the people who would build it as you have to drop below 30% HP and still remain in the fight to use it?

Warhammer has CDR on it so naturally Maw would inherit the stats as well.

Well SOME people on this thread said that's the reason they want it so idk. Can't reason with people on the boards, even with math.

IT's so efficient, that I almost never see anyone buy it. Quit whining

Who's whining? Merely stating facts is not whining and I have perfect evidence to back up my argument. Don't know why you're here to tell me that

the item isnt OP or anything. you're complaining about a lousy 30 g. That's whining. it's trivial, get over it and move on.

It actually is pretty strong for a item of its cost. It's not a pure offensive or pure defensive item.

Don't tell me what to do. If it's so trivial, stop replying.

i guess riot should remove dorans' blade as purchasable from level 1. it's not a pure offensive or pure defensive item. it has LIFESTEAL, which is defensive. AND it gives AD. BAN IT BAN IT!

Go be a turd in somebody else's thread.

AP champions are sadly invalidated by a 450G item (item 1033).
