What champion is similar to Velkoz?

I love Velkoz very much but after spamming nearly 400 ranked games with the lad in a short time - I feel like i want to spice things up and get another second main for the support role.

What champion would fit?

He’s like an artillery/control mage so things like Ziggs, Lux, Xerath. I would say Xerath is the closest because he’s pure skill shots. He doesn’t have the true damage though but he can snipe just as good without even being seen.

Is xerath supp viable?

Not optimal but viable yes.

He works. I would suggest Brand if you are looking for a mage support pick though because like velkoz his passive does damage even when you lack ap items.

Anyone who's purely skillshot based, like what Phieldworker said, I think Lux and Xerath are both very good contenders.

Depends on what about his kit that you enjoy, but I will go ahead and echo Phieldworker and say Lux, Xerath, and Ziggs are good places to start for the artillery mage subclass.

Lux has a slow with E, a snare that works like Bard's Q or MF's Q (snares to two enemies), a uninterruptible ult that will delete squishies easily, a shield that works on all allies (including herself) in a line and a little bit of damage via her passive.

Xerath has a stune with E or W, a ground-based skillshot with the other of those (important for bypassing things like Yasuo's Windwall), a mini-Lux ult with a charged up Q (emphasis on mini), and an ult that is basically a Jhin ult except in 360 degree radius around Xerath (also roots Xerath so it may be similar to play him after playing Vel). Passive also allows you restore mana via auto attacks.

Ziggs has a long range AoE with Q, an AoE slow with W, a displacement effect for Ziggs and enemies that doubles as a tower execute with E, and a massive longe-range AoE nuke for an ult. Passive is dealing extra damage with autos, but I do not remember if it spell-procced or not.

hard to predict what you might enjoy but when i started playing vel i had been playiing malzahar before that, that was my transition, so its possible you might enjoy malzahar?

but its hard to say, for all we know ryze becomes your new main

if essence / owning champs is no issue then i say start experimenting with all the suggested champs from people, other wise i would suggest xerath, he has long range poke, 2 forms of CC, and his passive gives him mana back, not to mention your R is so long you can almost gank mid without leaving lane

You didn't say what role...

Xerath would be up there - similar to Vel, he can be played mid and support. Has a long range poke but his R unlike Vel'z takes some getting used to. Lux has some similarities too in that way.

If it's the R that you like, and you want a long range damage like that, then Jhin (ADC) would be worth looking at.

If it is Velkoz's ranged pokes that you like (and you are a support player), then consider Zyra.
