The reason we have Promo series

Eedat··14 votes·1,659 views

The reason we have promo series is that there needs to be something to offset the safety nets we get from falling. Especially since its takes a ludicrous amount of loses to get demoted from a 5 division.

There can't only be tools for preventing people from faling while nothing stops people from advancing or else the entire ladder justs continuously shifts upwards. Thats a problem because the ranked ladder is supposed to be competitive. It's not a participation reward.

So for everyone complaining about Promos; if you want them gone, you're going to have to give up your safety nets. You don't get both.

Especially since its takes a ludicrous amount of loses to get demoted from a 5 division.

You get 10 lose protection in a row after being placed to a Div 5, and then it'd be only a few after that, that's not really ludicrous.

Wrong. Only if you have complete shit MMR

Nope.

After being promoted into a new division or tier, you’ll gain the effects of a demotion ‘shield,’ which prevents you from dropping. This is to keep you from winning a series, losing a few games and then immediately dropping back to where you were. The shield lasts for 3 games after advancing a division, and 10 games after advancing a tier (3 games for Master tier).

Quoted and bolded the wrong part twice in a row.

A particularly bad losing streak may result in dropping a tier or division, though there’s no set number of games that may trigger a demotion. Losing enough games at 0 LP can drop you into the next-highest division.

Eedat4 votes

Still wrong. That is the absolute MINIMUM number of games it takes to fall. Under no circumstances can you fall before ten games. However absolutely nobody falls in ten games in real world circumstances. You're MMR had to tank to a full tier below your division before you will drop a tier.

So yeah, it's absolutely ludicrous the about of games you need to lose before getting demoted between tiers

Sraeg20133 votes

Lol no.

Your MMR needs to be at least as bad as one whole TIER below your current rating to get demoted from Div 5.

From my experience 20 loses in a row isn't enough to get demoted.

Then what's this?

This , my kind and ignorant sir, is a completely different thing.

The part literally one line above what you quoted is the correct one.

A particularly bad losing streak may result in dropping a tier or division, though there’s no set number of games that may trigger a demotion. Losing enough games at 0 LP can drop you into the next-highest division. If you’re in division V, it’s possible you’ll even drop a tier. After a demotion, your LP will be set to 25 or 75, depending on how many losses you had at 0 LP.

It may not be that obvious on first glance. Here:

THERE'S NO SET NUMBER OF GAMES THAT MAY TRIGGER A DEMOTION

Considering just how ridiculously low your MMR has to be in order to drop from a V division, it is absolutely ludicrous.

They exist because the system of everything based entirely on an elo score proved problematic in that players were placed in uneven match ups without anything separating the players into skill sets.

So, Divisions were made to divide the players into those groups and allow players to enjoy games with and against each other at levels of skill that should be more or less even (though not always).

Promotional Series are a test of a player's skill to determine if they are ready to advance into a division among players of greater skill.

Players who prove exceedingly better than their division are sometimes (not often) allowed to skip divisions. If, for instance, someone is an obvious Plat or Diamond smurf then they will advance far more quickly through the divisions to reach their actual placement than someone at a gold level or lower.

The rank ladder is in place to serve a single purpose. To allow players of all skill levels to enjoy the game without experiencing a slew of impossibly difficult games or incredibly boring and easy games.

The joke is that divisions and tiers are COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS. Why? Because the old ELO system IS STILL IN EFFECT.

All that changed is the fact you can't see the number.

That's it.

The rank ladder is in place to serve a single purpose. To allow players of all skill levels to enjoy the game without experiencing a slew of impossibly difficult games or incredibly boring and easy games.

The ranked ladder is in place to serve a single purpose. To make people feel good about their rank, regardless how bad they actually are.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

Salt detected.

Sraeg20131 votes

What you are detecting are "facts".

I suggest you to do some research, before further discussion.

  1. The reason for adding the Ladder System was literally "to make players feel good about themselves".
  2. They renamed ELO to MMR to cover up the fact it's still the same thing.

Except, they didn't change the system, they skinned it.

Divisions have nothing to do with matchmaking. The only thing looked at for matchmaking is elo.

Sraeg20132 votes

Or... we can remove the ranked ladder altogether, because it serves no practical purpose anyway.

Eedat4 votes

Lmao then don't play it

Sraeg20131 votes

Of course. Why fight to remove our chains, when we can simply compare their lengths?

Eedat3 votes

What are you talking about?

Sraeg20131 votes

I'm responding to your childish "man up" rebuttal.

Eedat2 votes

Its not a rebuttal. If you don't like ranked, then don't play it. It's pointless to complain about something you are volunteering in to lmao

Sraeg20131 votes

Yes, it is a rebuttal. A very overused one.

I don't like something, I feel that changing it would be beneficial and voice my opinion about it. You come and respond with a "man up" type of comment, because I should be ashamed of my opinion.

Hint: I'm not.

Eedat2 votes

You didn't recommend changes. You just straight up said remove it. Well hate to break it to you that "it serves no practical purpose anyway" is a matter of opinion, not fact.

You know what else "serves no practical purpose anyway"? Video games period. According to your logic we should just delete the game then? Its purpose is what the community deems its purpose. Seeing how the majority of players participate in the ranked ladder, it does in fact have purpose.

If you dont like it, don't play it. Nobody has a gun to your head. Stop being so defensive

Of course I did. Removal is a change. Why "just straight remove it"? Because I believe this ranked "skin" is fundamentally flawed and cannot be fixed.

Well hate to break it to you that "it serves no practical purpose anyway" is a matter of opinion, not fact.

Hate to break it to you, but I included "practical" for a reason.

Do car stickers serve a practical purpose, for example increasing engine performance?

http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/uKsAAOxyUrZS4~dk/s-l225.jpg

Of course they don't. They serve an aesthetic purpose.

Nice try to discredit me, but an ultimately futile one.

Seeing how the majority of players participate in the ranked ladder, it does in fact have purpose.

You're jumping to conclusions.

People play ranked because it's the "elite" mode that also gives rewards, not because the Ladder System makes them feel good about playing it.

If you dont like it, don't play it. Nobody has a gun to your head. Stop being so defensive

Again the "man up" line.

it does in fact have purpose.

Then tell me: What is the purpose of the Ladder system (LP, promos, divisions)?

Slythion2 votes

you told essentially told him "stop complaining, if you don't like it then don't play ranked" (a stupid thing to say btw)

he responded with sarcasm, rephrasing your bad argument with chains meaning the bad system

essentially: "why fight to improve the system when we can just sit there and go with it"

Sraeg20131 votes

Thank you. It feels good knowing there are sensible people left on this planet.

I agree with this monkey fellow

The whole ranked system is rigged to force you to play, I'd rather play 80's E.T. the Extraterrestrial than rankeds in this game.

So remove the safety nets. And the promos. And the divisions. Go back to how it use to be. 1200 elo is bronze. 1500 elo is silver. 2000 elo is gold. 2500 elo is plat. One win to ascend. One loss to descend. Safety nets are just stupid tbh. It's possible for plats and silvers to get matched together. Because a low plat and a high silver can both have a mid gold mmr. Which is dumb. If your mmr is mid gold. You should be mid gold.
