Marksman Movement Speed

Stacona··5 votes·2,297 views

Older Marksmen like Ashe and Varus ended up with low movement speed because of how overpowering Phantom Dancer was in ye olden days, now that its movement speed is toned down on these items and in certain cases do not buy any % movement items, champions like Ashe and Varus can be looked at to potentially increase their base movement speed.

Ashe and Varus also both have inherent range advantages and strong utility.

They do have more range than average, but the reason why their movement speed is low is not because of their range it is because phantom dancer gave triple its movement in the past, at one point 6x this PD or 5x this shiv

And because one champion can do one thing better, we have to rebalance everything, right?

So you just admitted that despite other champions having clearly stronger kits

No, he admitted that Champion A has an advantage that Champion B does not have. Because that's the fucking design premise of League of Legends.

You illiterate little shitstain. ONE. OOOOOONNNNNNNEEEE. Not ALL. ONE. ONE =/= ALL. Champions can and SHOULD have singular advantages over other champions: So long as those advantages are balanced out with roughly equivalent disadvantages. Ashe gets long range, a reliable slow, reliable harassment, strong scouting, and the biggest CC on an ADC ever: She loses out on Movement Speed and reliable DPS. Varus, likewise, has tons of ranged damage, tons of utility, and is one of the few ADCs in the game to not only deal hybridized damage (which is harder to build to defend against), but hybridized damage scaling on enemy health, which makes him nearly impossible to counterbuild.

You forgot Caitlyn's conditional CC, targeted slow/dash, and execution. A better argument, which doesn't reveal you as an asshole, would be that ADCs released recently have the same movespeed as ever. Sure, Kalista gets infinite kite that ignores slows, but hey, League of Bullshit Mobility.

Ashe can absolutely compete with other ADC, she has some of the best attack speed scaling of any ADC, plus utility, which means she has a very diverse set of build options and is useful even if you get behind.

Mana is not an issue late game, Neither Ashe nor Jinx have mana problems in the later levels because of Q, Jinxs CC is all skillshots, Ashe won't miss her slow unless she gets hit with a blind or there is a windwall/braum in the way, Ashe with items actually deals great damage, and unlike Kog or Trist, she doesn't have downtime on her damage because of a skill being on cool down.

In my opinion, low mobility champions should have a higher base speed anyway. If you can dash, hop, skip, and leap, you don't need high movement speed.

The5lacker3 votes

Tanks should have low defensive stats too, and carries should have a terrible base AS. After all, if you're going to be building it, and its your core identity, it's not like it'd make sense for you to have it as a base, right?

shrugs

I just said it was my opinion. Obviously there's more to it than what I said. Maybe if I get a degree in game design, I could give more than just an opinion.

And to be fair, not all tanks have perfect defensive stats and not all carries have perfect base AS. Shen, for example, doesn't get MR per level while Riven does. And Jinx has one of the lowest level 18 base AS, which is made up for by her Q AS steroid so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Actually, my main champion Tristana in fact has terrible base AS. She has to level her AS boost skill or buy items to have a decent AS. Many top laners have no or low MR because they are expected to build it (although the 0-MR thing is being phased out and only exists on a few champs that haven't been reworked, but still, its been done).

In general, if your kit includes something to give you a buff, yeah, I think you should have a weaker base in that thing. Riot likes to call this creating gated opportunity - you're -much- stronger than average in your core strength (in AS, in mobility, in tankiness, in whatever) when your cooldowns are up or active, and a little bit weaker in it than average when they aren't.

For that reason I sort of agree with TombDragon, in reverse - if you have high mobility kit, you should have low base movement speed. Kinda the same thing if across the board.

That is, if they have mobility skills, they shouldn't then be able to run you down -anyway- when their cooldowns are down or they are OOM. Also don't really agree with the OP - Varus and Ashe both have slows in their kits, so they have a cooldown-gated movement speed difference. If they got higher base movement their slows should be nerfed to compensate. Varus might not care and maybe that would be good for his kit, but slows are core identity on Ashe.

I don't exactly know what you're smoking, but 0.658 (+25.5%) is not "terrible base AS." That's not even "mediocre base AS." It's not ridiculously strong, but it's still a respectable amount. Much like how a champion with dashes might have a base MS of around 345. It's not 355, but terrible is 325 and it's closer to great than terrible.

No champion has 0 MR. Some don't gain MR per level. Mostly ranged champs. But everyone has a base MR of 30. Which...I think should be phased out, in all honesty. MR should vary just as much as Armor. But that's a topic for another time.

No, but it depends on the champion - Ashe is made for kiting which she has the movement speed and slows on frost shot back when phantom dancer gave a crap ton of movement speed which all marksman had, but the difference was for like Ashe against tanks and bruisers and kiting those and not a marksman and marksman status, but with more mobile marksman being introduced Ashe getting more movement will make sense in this world because the itemization changed for marksmen and new marksmen champions were released

AD Carries in general have low movement speeds to offset the effect range has on their sphere of influence.

Also, usually goes: The higher the (possible) range, the lower the actual movement speed (especially in-combat MS).

335 MS/310 old MS: Sivir (500), Lucian (500), Quinn (525)

330 MS/305 old MS: Vayne (550), Varus (575), Twitch (550/850), Graves (525), Draven (550). Notice how Twitch, despite his high possible range, still has 330 MS - due to the fact that, beyond his ult, he has no effective tools to increase his combat range beyond AA range.

325 MS/300 old MS: Ashe (600), Caitlyn (650), Corki (550), Ezreal (550), Jinx (525/700), Kalista (550), Kog'Maw (500/710), Miss Fortune (550), Tristana (550-669). Corki and Ezreal have nontargeted burst mobility and extended range via their abilities. MF has superhigh strategical mobility.

i put yourself at a severe disadvantage - if you are a jungle or support movement quints can make sense, but you need your offense and defense for runes as marksman

Sire Hippington1 votes

I'd prefer reduceing the ms from the other carrys. not so mobile melees have a hard eniugh time reaching carrys already, and the mobile ones won't really care about the 5-10 ms

Durzaka1 votes

Jinx and Caitlyn also have 325 MS.

That is a pretty standard movement speed for most ADCs. Some ADCs have 330 MS (Graves, Twitch, Vayne etc.) and a couple of 335 (Lucian Sivir, insanely low range).

Are you noticing the pattern?

The ADCs with longer range gameplay have the slowest MS, whereas the closest range ADCs have higher MS.

Riot once nerfed MS on all ADCs....

now i say why they said they have to do it....

Tanks and bruisers were way too good so they had to nerf ADCs MS (yep that was exactly the reason they told us lol).... the reason and thinking behind that were that the protection from 3 bruisers/tanks were working way too good and ADCs were able to do their job making the tanky/bruiser meta the strongest comp....

Riot should have reverted this MS nerf the moment tanky meta vanished and Assassins were ruling.... but ye.... now league of tanks is coming back and buffing ADCs MS will lead to te problem they once had and maybe Riot would nerf ADCs even harder cuz tanks are too good..... #1 balance Team Riot.

Ashe has a low base movement speed to offset her slow, same as Anivia, if you can permaslow your enemies and have the same base movement as them it doesn't leave them with a lot of options unless they have a gap closer. If movement speed is an issue you could try this build, it does great if you can get away with it. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1770666262/210905750?tab=overview
