Any reason to use quick cast?

JuiceBoxP··1 votes·1,877 views

I've been told by some people that quick cast is better than smart cast. I just can't understand how. It is a bit faster, but missing skillshots is like too easy without the indicators.

Anyone got insight on the matter?

EDIT: Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna practice with quick cast now :) You guys make compelling arguments.

After you play a certain champion(s) for long enough, it becomes second nature, especially for basic abilities (ie abilities with low cd). If you stop using range indicators, your brain gets used to it.

You may want to have specific abilities on smart cast though, for example Rumble R.

I used smartcast for a while but had to force myself to move over to quick cast most of the time, since right click happens to be both the movement command and the "cancel" command when you're aiming an ability. So if I wanted to start aiming and held down an ability key, but then wanted to readjust my character to get a better angle by moving, I would cancel the ability I had queued up and have to press the button again. This led me to miss multiple kills and die in numerous situations, since the cancel command does only that, so sometimes I would simply cancel the ability I was aiming instead of moving somewhere.

The solution I ended up using was essentially creating different "modes" for myself on the keyboard. Normally, all of my abilities are on quick cast for speed and not fucking things up, but when I hold down shift, each ability is in smart cast instead for better aiming.

Once you learn the ability ranges it's the best option, since it's slightly faster. Smart cast might be easier and help with accuracy, but you lose the fraction of a second you're holding the key down for.

That and I believe some abilities end up kinda janky to use if you use smart cast. Viktor's E I believe is one example of this.

i cannot not use quick cast, the utter insanity of the idea when i already know how all these various abilities aim and behave. i mean shit i'm even quick casting rumble ult now, i don't even know how i unlocked that move.

I've only ever used quick cast, I can't imagine playing with smart cast and not screwing myself over repeatedly.

Yes, it's quicker. You can bind smart cast with a shift modfier or something if you want the option for certain abilities.

Once you play enough and learn all the champs you will know the range and hit box

Too many champions rely on using abilities in quick succession to be effective to NOT use quick cast.

You're hamstringing yourself if you don't use it, IMO.

Whenever I introduce someone to league of legends, the first thing I ever make them do is put on smart cast. Just nip it in the bud, don't ever even let them get used to using indicators. Its better for them in the long run. Bad habits are hard to break.

you mean quick cast... smart cast is the one with the indicators

Then they changed the terminology, because smart cast used to be the one with no indicators.

I wouldn't know, I haven't touched my settings in probably close to 10 years.

Technically they call it quick cast with indicators... smart cast is taken from dota 2 i believe.

No I 100% promise you it was called smart cast at one point in time. I would put a paycheck on it.

I have literally zero other reason to call it smart cast, other than that's what it was called at some point.

I'm not that creative.

As you get more used to champions/their abilities you really shouldn't NEED the indicator. The time saved from quickcast over smart can make all the difference in a quick skirmish, or in a reflexive moment where it's react or die.

Personally, I use quick cast and never touched smart cast. Smart didn't exist when I started, so I just moved straight to quick and never looked back.

The indicators are useful on occasion(Particularly when picking up a champ you're not accustomed with), they just aren't important enough to slow down your spell cast in most situations - Playing a game or two with each champ should really teach you how their spells aim anyway, making the indicator a bit irrelevant.
