I don't think Morde needs a huge rework

Okay, so -- I've been playing Mord almost non-stop recently, and he's gotta be one of the most fun champions to play as when he works. Everyone knows he's got a lot of problems, namely being short-ranged, immobile, and with no CC.

I won't say whether these ideas are actually any good, and I know they probably won't happen, but I have this lingering fear that Riot will make Morde something like a tank with a lot of generic 'counterplay,' so I'll say my thoughts on why his kit could be updated instead to fit today's standards. I don't think all the ideas should be implemented at the same time, but I think they'd do good in making him stand out more as his own unique role.

Creeping Death

I think this could have a lot of tie-in to mobility. Give him a movespeed boost while it's active. This inherently puts a lot more decision making on using this ability. 'Do I want to use this ability for the defenses and AoE in this duel, or do I want to wait to use it to escape or chase that low health enemy?' Obviously, it has a really long duration, so I think a better idea than just a whole 6 seconds of really fast movement would be it being a massive MS buff decaying to something more moderate. This would give him a good burst of speed and make him much harder to escape from if he keeps it.

Siphon of Destruction

Now, this idea's a little out there, but give it more range and make it still hit in the same area cone. What I mean is, it still hits in the same radius, but you can aim that radius to hit farther than just from Mord's hitbox.

Understandably, that's pretty hard to balance, but I think it could be made simple; give it an increasing travel time from where it casts, from the same cast time at point blank to something reasonable at max range, with a noticeable line traveling to that area, or just the incoming cone nuke itself being visible. Depending how close you aim, the hitbox would always be locked to Morde to prevent you accidentally mis-clicking it at close range. Let's say something like within 200-300 units, the cone will be locked to him. This offers him a chance at having long-ranged poke with the counterplay of it being both delayed and visible to the enemy.

Children of the Grave

There's not really a lot to do, but aside from the occasional obnoxious shield, I think making it tick down faster would be a good improvement. Alternatively, he could just gain increased movement speed when moving to the champion he's inflicted with it, instead of W giving him an MS boost. This gives him a strong feeling of 'I threw my ult and now I'm going to fuck you up' now that his victim will have a harder time escaping his grasp. It also has no effect on him when he turns around; which accentuates his strength as someone who wants to stay and fight and chase you down and enslave your soul.

--

I'd really like to see most of his kit intact through any form of rework he might get in the future. I like his identity and I think his kit only needs a few tweaks to give him a strong place in the meta. Please tell me what you think for the purposes of friendly discussion, thank you

Mord has been through so much I feel so bad for the poor dude.

Back when sunfire capes could stack he was # 1. Back when gunblades + spell vamp was stacking he was # 1. Back before he had his nerfs he was #1. Now with league increasingly giving champions insane mobility, roam, and harass potential he is in dead last. Now with DFG removal he is in dead last again. He's been put in last place twice.

Mord will forever be in a terrible place until items cater better to him or they rework him.

Is DFG a core item on him? I honestly can't win with the damn thing when I build it.

Would be nice to see some compensation for something that I think a lot of other players build, though.

It's pretty much a necessary item if you are playing him lategame.

He needs that item to do his job, which is instagib the enemy adc, and make them fight for you.

Without dfg, he cannot do that anymore. In fact, I dont think Morde will be viable as an apc after they remove that item.

Is it a rush item?

I've always stuck to the mindset that I want a lot of AP and as much tank stats as I can fit in there; should I substitute a Deathcap for DFG while it's still here, or build them together?

It's his most important item since his nerfs and item changes. I normally try to avoid death cap on almost every champion especially on mord. Hourglass + dfg + spell vamp item + lich bane + void are extremely important on him. If you're really late game you could do it but then you sacrifice a lot.... Sometimes late game I'll just sell my spell vamp for more tank and or a better AP item with defensive stats abyssal, rylais, liandry's etc..... There's still many ways to build him not just the one I listed but for the most part that is ideal. Otherwise you'd want to go more hybrid tanky instead of mostly AP (if your team is squishy) HP goes along way on mord because of his shield + bonus armor / mr skill. Items like sunfire, visage are fine buys though I prefer veil.

I think there's way, way too much power tied up in his ult's ability to turn a 5v5 into a 6v4. I think his ult should be replaced, and that would open the room he needs to get things like mobility (which I think might be better off on the Q: after all, it's a melee attack).

What should replace his ult? I'd like to see something that interacts more with his shield. A generic ghost summon that comes with shield regen buff would be cool, but so would be a low-cooldown pass-through skillshot slow that costs shield.

As for Siphon, don't change the way it works. I like the cone with no travel time.

I really hope they keep his ult. That's the most satisfying part about him, and I'd rather not see it go in favor of CC -or- mobility. It's just way too good for his character, in my opinion, to sacrifice for what sounds like a rehashed Tibbers or Maokai's Q.

Why do you think the mobility should be attached to his Q? I can't really think of anything besides gaining it on activation or on hit. One would accomplish the same thing as putting it on W (on a MUCH shorter cooldown provided he hits something with it), and the other just seems... bad, unless it's a really heavy MS buff. It'd only make him win fights harder against people he can already reach.

I disagree: to me, what's most satisfying is that he feels like his power actually scales with the number of enemies he's fighting. All his non-ult abilities are AoE and give him shield: once he has spell vamp, they heal him too, and 2v1s feel like fair fights unless they're really CC-heavy. What's most satisfying is using his mad AoE to split push, drawing two people to come kill you, and getting a double or sending them back to base. Besides, he's the Master of Metal. What do ghosts have to do with metal?

I was thinking of something along the lines of Garen's Q, only instead of silencing, it hits multiple enemies (or hits one enemy harder). If he puts his W on someone else, does he keep the speed boost or does it go with the W? I guess it might be nice to be able to speed boost my allies, but having it on the melee attack seems intuitive, somehow.

Well, in his lore, he's depicted as the dude who enslaves your soul. What better way to personify that in-game by actually taking whoever he kills and making them do his work for him?

I wouldn't be opposed to Q boosting him up; actually, it might be a better idea. If you have a lot of CDR then his W will just naturally have almost no downtime, where his Q is reliant on him hitting something to put it on its short cooldown. That said, being able to speed-buff your ally to engage for you would still be a godsend in itself.

I think siphon of destitution should at least give you a small speed buff to give Mordekaiser at least some form of mobility.

Morde isn't really fun to play with, or play as, on top of having no clear direction, (midlane, top lane, supp even, I've seen them all,) leads to one thing, rework hammer.

Even in my worst games with him, I've still had absurd amounts of fun playing him. He's a unique champion and he should remain that way. There's no better feeling than your shield saving you from Ignites and tower dives, or ghosting their fed carry to steal their stats and start slamming the rest of their team.

He has a pretty clear direction, what do you mean? He pumps out heavy AoE with a strong hand in dueling mid-late game and his ability to instantly turn an entire teamfight around with one good ult. Support Mord is just an off-pick, I don't think that can be clumped in with him being able to mid or top which is more flexibility than anything.

Morde honestly I find to be fun and balanced.

Now that dfg is being removed, he needs a buff. A big one. That Item made him scale.

He will need a buff or a rework now.

I don't mind him being unique, in fact, considering the quality of Sion's rework, we can expect any Morde rework to exemplify qualities about him.

The biggest issue with Morde is, we know what he does, but not how, or why. All we know about him is that he appears to be a walking suit of metal that can torture with a touch. I want to see that reflected in his kit, in the way you cast spells, stuff like, that, until he is, I don't see him as fun to play as.

Playing against him is either a bore, (long range poke and escapes and he's done,) or it's a chore, doesn't make it really "fun" you feel me?

I actually really like Morde in Mid, Top and, Jungle....

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a speed buff on his w and/or his ulti to help him chase down enemies just a little more. IT would defiantly fix his "completely immobile" problem.
