Is it me or does laning vs Veigar....

feel the same as laning against Nasus?

I feel like I have to absolutely dominate him in lane or else his Q stacks eventually outscale me. Going 'even' in lane against a Nasus or Veigar is actually losing lane. At least Nasus only gets scaling on his Q from stacks. Veigar gets two 1.0 ratios and another .6 ratio on his stacks plus a bonus +35% stacks from Rabadon's

FINALLY SOMEONE GOT IT.

With the difference that Veigar is easier to kill.

Pick a snowbally champion such as Kata or Ahri, focus on MPen early instead of AP and just kill him every time he comes into lane. Simple as that. Back in season 2 that was completly normal... have midlaners become lazy or what?

That essentially was the Season 2-3 "Fuck Veigar" build on nearly any non-long-ranged AP xD

Ah yes good old times.... ah I've seen so many Veigars rage because of this :D

Veigar Q range got buffed back in season 2 veigar Q was having the half range that it have now so pretty much now veigar can stack Q under his turret so try kill him there..

In season 2 veigar needed to go in the middle of the lane to take 1 cs for his Q now he can stay in his turret press Q from 1000 range away and take a Q so you were saying?

If he's stuck farming under tower like that, he'll be scared to push forward. Why isn't the mid laner taking this chance to roam to bot and grab two kills? Then what can Veigar do? He's scared to push forward if he just wants to farm.

people dont want to adapt their builds they just want to follow cookie cutter builds.

'easier to kill' if you are able to kill him before he ults the fk out of you

Talon Talon Talon , Talon takes massive dumps on Veigar. I know this as a Talon main and Veigar main. Veigar can't do crap all against Talon.

Any AD takes massive dumps on Viegar. His ult (something everyone complains about with him now) doesnt scale off their AP

AzureInTheDark1 votes

I'm pretty sure his ult would scale with their AP. :v

doiminat0r36001 votes

Their 0 AP. Definitely something that would make a difference.

Nasus gets to build to be a tanky monster. Veigar builds squishy as all hell. Blow him up and his infinite scaling doesn't matter.

Except that Veigar has a Jarvan ult on a basic ability, long range, and the ability to instantly delete the enemy AP. Nasus walks into a teamfight with 5000 stacks and proceeds to do zero damage because he gets kited.

He gets kited by all but one person and that person is whomever he withered.

Unless you have TahmKench Thresh or Kalista , you're not going to be pulling them out of the heat . In that case, you then need to go back and face Nasus before he kills his mark.

DrCyanide14 votes

To me, Nasus is worse, but I play a lot more mid lane than I do top lane.

Nasus seems to quickly gets to the point where you go to poke him and he lifesteals it back up. He gets tanky enough that he ignores you. You do everything you can but short of sending 2-3 people to deal with him, but it's not enough. And if Nasus wants you dead, his wither is depressingly good at killing your hopes of escape.

Veigar you can poke out of lane, you can burst down, you can fight back inside the ring, etc. Yes, he will get a lot of AP, but he will not be unkillable while doing lots of damage. I just take Xerath and beat on Veigar from a long range.

KingKong23501 votes

If he builds tanky first, make your first item the armor shredding item. Otherwise, leave lane and force 5v4s to force Nasus to leave his lane or lose. Does the force 4v5s strat not work for veigar?

DrCyanide1 votes

The 4v5 strat doesn't usually work against Veigar because if he has wants to be with his team. Alone he's likely to get picked off, but with a team he's likely to live and get more AP if a fight breaks out.

Matezoide13 votes

Except Nasus is 5 times harder to kill, one shots turrets and doesnt build a single damage item.

Eedat7 votes

He also doesnt put out nearly as much damage as Veigar does. He also is melee range with no hard CC or gap closer. He is also stupid easy to kite in team fights.

Can't believe someone would actually try to use this argument when comparing the 2 while conveniently leaving the other half out

The Bearded Bard7 votes

Meh, at least Veigar's squishy for the amount of damage he does. Honestly Nasus's early game isn't bad enough to justify that monstrous late game. Same problem as vayne.

TwinkiePro8 votes

Nasus' late game is not nearly as good as people say, it's his mid game that hurts.

Anidan4 votes

Seriously, his mid-game is his scariest part. He spikes hard around the 25-30 minute mark. Like, really damn hard. He'll have his tri-force (if he opts for it) and 2 defensive items around that time, and paired with his ult that makes him an absolute monster. As the game goes later, he actually gets easier to deal with as a whole even though his Q damage doesn't fall off.

Clearly have never played as Nasus against Darius or Renekton.

Miraweave5 votes

Yeah, it's the same thing except that you essentially cannot stop Veigar from farming because he has 950 range on his Q while Nasus is melee.

Xerath Watch Sivir me.

Xerath doesn't stop him. He harasses sure, but he doesn't actually put enough pressure on.

Sivir can spellshield one baleful strike every 22 seconds, which is hardly enough to shut him down. Oh, and you have to pick midlane sivir to accomplish that, so... yeah.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

I play mid lane Sivir. (>_>)

Actually it got me wondering, why doesn't Veigar build tank/CDR and rely on his scaling AP for damage then? That's how Susan works, and I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work on Veigar.

you ever tried it?

I played one game straight after i commented. Can't really tell for sure though, I ended up with ~100-ish AP by 20 plus minutes of very passive play with 0 ap items (I built like Nasus) against a very aggressive Teemo. But we had an AFK jungler, so when the party eventually ended up top lane I got fked and we surrendered.

The Teemo wasn't really able to stop me farming my stacks as long as I was careful (we had about the same cs) since i had a good range on Q and because I was rushing defense against his poke. My skills at last hitting were subpar though, so it could've been higher. It was getting easier once I had 30% CDR though, the stacks were increasing faster.

I suggest building at least a Rabadon's on Veigar and then going full tank, just like a lot of Nasus players opt for a Trinity Force or Gauntlet. If you claimed to have around 100AP around 20min, that with Rabadon's will nearly, if not, give you the damage to one combo a squishy and be tanky all at the same time.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Actually, that's a good idea. I was going Void Staff for my 1 damage item and feel like I lack lategame damage. but then I realize now that I should be chasing the squishies (and well, diving through the front line to do it :P). Deathcap would fit that purpose better unless they get a banshee's.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Because Veigar only gets 1 to 2 AP for every enemy he kills with q, Nasus gains 3 to 6 stacks on his q for every enemy killed. Further, Veigar's q, the damaging ability with the lowest CD does not have a 1/1 ratio for his stacks.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

He does have 3 abilities that scale with it though, and one of them scales with the enemy.

Reazale1 votes

But the others 2 have modarete to high cd (W=10 and R=80 whitout cdr) , his most important source of dmg as a tanky champ would be his Q (5sec), so he would only win 0.6/0.84(whit rabadon and masterys, might be a little off cos idk how mastery+rabadon work) dmg per stack of his Q passive, while nasus gets 3 dmg on a 4 sec cd per stack.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Well, it's an off build so damage is always going to be the optimal way to go with him, but I don't see why this can't work. And as I mentioned, because he is going tank (to farm off his Q better), you can assume that he will be maxing CDR as a priority (FH+Visage does that nicely).

But as a tank with maxed CDR, he would be going a more supportish than carry Veigar with more frequent use of his E and provide his damage in a stream of 3 second Qs, and 6 second Ws, compared to a single 1 shot burst. His ult mechanics also ensure that he will always be nuking the enemy AP carry regardless of build, and if they don't got one, you'd win by rushing Thornmail anyway.

I am aware that 2 games is nothing, which is why my next project after ap Malphite will be tank Veigar (going to master him with only playing tank). I'm sure the bigger picture will surface then, which might only mean that it's good at my (low) elo or maybe not viable at all. Who knows?

Edit: I found that diving into the middle of the enemy team (stupid thing to do if you're a squishy) and putting an E on yourself is a good way to land 5 man stuns because everyone's reflex is to dive on you. Happened in the Blitz game whenever I got pulled.

Reazale1 votes

A tanky Veigar might work now , when i tried him (pre "rework") he sucked , maybe whit these changes and the extra ap u can get he might be able to work better, but u will most likely end up playing as a 2nd support :P
