Making sense of Rabadon Deathcap's build path

Its current build path is pretty bland In comparison if you look at Triforce anyone building it can derive quite a lot from each component along the way.

A while back we increased the cost of DC to 3800 and lowered the cost of needlessly large rod. Now after devoting 2 slots to item 1058 & item 1026, assuming you have a full inventory the gap until you can complete raba is 1265 + 435 (item 1052) = 1700 gold. but you're only sitting on 100 ap as opposed to 120 from before with only 1k gold to reach the old value of 3500.

In the picture I provided you make 3 purchases, 860 + 860 + 1080 gold. The numbers are by no means set in stone here, riot feel free to be inspired by this. just want to get the gist across.

In a way its kind of inspired by item 3508 and how its cooldown scales from %critical chance from other sources.

needlessly large rod

Hehehehehehe, I'm childish. I laughed and I know I shouldn't have.

You could remove the component outright and just make Rabadon's passive behave like that. The item doesn't need to be so expensive if it doesn't increase its own ability power - since it's currently priced around granting 162 ability power. In my own upgrade, I changed the recipe to Needlessly Large Rod + modified Dark Seal.

With all this recent ap item discussion I figured it be a good time to bring this post to light. As I think it would help a lot with players struggling to reach a damage spike on ap champions mid game. Prior to completing a daunting 3800 gold item. It would essentially be really big item 1058 that only kicks in if you have 280 ap already.
