Wait..... why is Riot ruining Shurelya's?

Illabethe··4 votes·1,990 views

The Rise update to the item literally ruins the item both for nearly every Enchanter that would use it, AND for Mages who use it:

New Shurelya:

Shurelya's has had a hard time finding users and overlaps considerably with Righteous Glory. We want to try and shift it to enchanter stats to create a new option for supports and leave tanks with Righteous as an option. Updated Shurelia’s: Forbidden Idol + Crystalline Bracer + 850g (total cost 2300g) 300hp 10% CDR 100% health regen 100% mana regen 10% heal/shield power Active: 40% movement speed for 3s for you and nearby allies (90s cooldown)

I'm sorry...... but WHAT?

  1. Righteous Glory only increases move speed toward opponents, and only for ONE CHAMPION. It is not a running feature AWAY, nor does Shurelya apply slows.

  2. Most Enchanters would achieve greater heals/shields from the item maintaining its 40 AP, than from that friggin 10% boost (this is why AP Nami support with AP support items outcompetes builds that build pure utility, because her scaling with AP amplifies the higher it goes; Utility heals for about the same, but loses all its teeth offensively, yet for some reason people still believe in the pure utility build) -Sona would never buy this, because it doesn't scale her Q or E or R -Janna would never buy this, because it's losing move speed, and has no AP scaling. -Karma would never buy this, because it is neither tanky, nor AP scaling. -Morgana would never buy this, because she needs the AP, and only has one isolated enchanter function. -Soraka has no reason to buy this, because there are better items when building toward a Warmog's for healing application.

I'm sorry Riot..... but when an item is relatively useless for the champ buying something, they generally won't buy it for the 3 second every 90 second feature.

Meanwhile, I often built to AP version on Zyra, and sometimes Morgana, because it compensated kit weaknesses. Zyra could actually juke well if needed on Shurelya's. It paired decent enough with an Athene's (when needed) on Morgana.

I find it ironic that:

  1. Riot thinks base HP regen is a useful stat on enchanters who have the lowest base HP regen in the game.
  2. They just removed a bunch of items they self deemed useless, and then create another useless item.

More items that works with redemption.

I'll justify it for you then. Old Shurelya's was AP and HP, and it was choked out by items like Twin Shadows and Ardent Censor. New Shurelya's is HP and recovery stats, with shielding increases. It's main competitor is Redemption now, and running them both in tandem will be fantastic.

Illabethe2 votes

That's not a qualifying counter-argument, since the AP and mobility gives more functionality.

Furthermore, there was no reason it had to crowd out Twin Shadows or Ardent.. I bought all three MANY times, for stacking movement speed.

You're basically trying to argue that 10% Heal Power is worth more than 40 AP and movement speed, even though on mosty enchanters, that 40 AP gives higher heals than the 10%

Oleandervine1 votes

No, I'm arguing that the 10% Heal Power AND the restorative stats are worth more than the 40 AP and movement speed. Enchanters generally don't need movement speed, and they generally don't even need offensive stats, since most of them hover behind use their utility spells. Having more HP/S and more MP/S is much better for them than offensive stats.

Illabethe1 votes
  1. It already has the Mana regen
  2. Have you ever even looked at enchanter HP/S? It's literally fractions of 1 per 5 seconds. The best enchanters in the game only gain about 1 per 5 seconds from a 100% increase. It's NOTHING.

The 5% Move speed is HUGE The 40 AP outscales the Heal power, and helps offensively as well as healing.

Oleandervine1 votes

I think the fact that I don't exactly know what stats this item has and I'm a support main speaks volumes of it's current usefulness. It's pretty forgettable, and I see enchanters preferring to spend their money on Twin Shadows for the move speed and slow ghosts and AP instead of this. If they need heals and MP/S, they prefer Ardent Censor, which also grants MS. So whining about the loss of movement speed on an item nobody builds, that's EASILY replaced by the other AP MS items that enchanters do build isn't a particularly strong argument. The AP MS niche is filled already by two enchanter items. I see absolutely no problem with shifting Shurelya out of that already filled niche and into the one with Redemption.

Or it just speaks a lot about your level of play frequency/experience, and willingness to go outside of suggested metas.

Zyra: You almost exclusively play Rylai's/Liandry's, even though some comps they are not the right fit at all. Morgana: You always rush Morello/Liandry's, and score sub-optimal scores for Gold IV/Silver I

20-36% Kill participation per game on a Zyra o.O

You almost never outdamage your teams either.... on two champs who do that systematically.

Before it's nerfed, go play a game buying Shurelya/Lich Bane etc on a Jungling Zyra. I don't care if you do it on norms. Do it. Compare your ability to react to situations compared to your Rylai/Liandra's build, as well as your damage. You will DOUBLE your team's damage, and you will die 1/2 as much.

Why Lichbane?

item 2065 item 3222 item 3107 = 40% heal power and 500% mana/hp regen

Illabethe2 votes

And what does AP Shurelya + item 3174 item 3504 do to the same exact kit?

More heals More damage

Heals only mean something if they SCALE. 40% heal power off a 120 base heal =/= 120 base heal + 200 AP + 10% Heal Power. Especially in Nami's case where her bounces increase 15% per 100 AP. Heal build = smaller scaling heal as it bounces. AP build = Same heal on first bounce BUT 30% Greater heal on bounce 3.

Almost NO champions other than Soraka scale better to heal items than healing AP items.

I really doubt any enchanter would care for this item. Why buy an inferior righteous glory? this is all this is now. Just a righteous glory with less stats but a "better" active... hell it's not even better since righteous glory gives more MS and it lasts an extra second so all this item has going for is that you can use it to run away? cool I guess?

Illabethe1 votes

You need to clarify which version you're calling an inferior RG. The new one? Old one?

He means the current one. RG and Shur both give HP, but RG is the better item for anyone who actually wants to buy HP. (Ex. Alistar or Taric.)

this "new" version, their goal was to set both shurelya's and righteous apart from each other but these changes just make them even more comparable to each other since their stat lines are now closer to each other but righteous is better and only cost 350 more gold. The only thing shurelya's has over righteous is that the active can potentially affect the entire team but that's about it really. Like I really want to know how does changing this item in this way make it not overlap with righteous glory? in what world are these changes achieving this? in what world is an item losing AP and the 5% MS to get 10% heal power and 100 more HP make it have stats more geared towards enchanters?

For what its worth, blitz is gonna be a happy robot.

They could have actually:

item 3113 + item 3010 = item 2065

40 ap 300 hp 300 mana 5% movement speed

Unique - Haste 10% CDR. Unique - 10% heal and shield power. Active - 40% ms to user and nearby allies for 3 secs.

Illabethe2 votes

That'd be better than what they are doing. What they are doing is effectively killing it.

Done251 votes

They need to change the HP to AP. Enchanters don't need HP. They can already heal themselves. They need AP so they can better support their teams.

Illabethe3 votes

HP is an enchanter's primary defense to Kayn or AP Malphite.

Speaking like a true autofill support. Enchanters are supposed to heal/protect their teammates most of the time. If you want AP get Ardent. Shurelya can provide some AP if you combine it with Athene's.

Right, and your rank is...?

If you're going to talk shit your main account better be at least Gold.

When the active was on Coin line I used to buy it on catcher supports, Thresh, Rakan, Blitz etc. Because they want to get in the fight and do stuff. Enchanters who by mid/late are basically just hiding behind their team have no need for it.

Rakan will definitely like it.
