The old system had more choice/diversity, allowing you to create pages to perfectly suit specific champions and matchups. The new system is incredibly dumbed down, while somehow being exponentially harder to balance.

For example, there is no balance between damage and defense, nor are there enough runes that defensive oriented champions can benefit from. All of the rewarding runes only accommodate damage.
