Well we've gone full circle

Oh look, who would have thought.

Jhin and Lucian are abusing lethality items again. Does the idea of making melee/ranged exclusive items never once come up in Riot balance team's discussion?

"Alright guys, I think we should buff lethality, because... well actually I don't know why, but why not?" "That sounds like a good idea" "I have some ideas for item changes, check those out!" "Hmm, that looks pretty good; duskblade seems really good" "Wait guys, those duskblade changes looks a bit over-the-top" "What do you mean?" "Well, it's pretty cheap and has a good build path and gives a huge amount of extra burst" "Yes?" "Well, haven't we already seen what happens when a certain class of champions get their hands on some items?" "Like what?" "item 3053 item 3156 item 3035 etc" "Oh, you mean ranged ADCs abusing these and other items?" "Yep" "Don't worry, I'm sure that won't happen this time" "Have you taken the necessary precautions?" "No, but I told you; everything is going to be okay" "Well if you say so" ...

Since when is it "abuse" if marksmen are building item 3035 ? As far as I know, they are the main subclass it is aimed for.

And I just noticed Duskblade being bought by marksmen more often, but it seems that's because the item is pretty busted.

Lethality scales off your level now. Which means that (in the) early game adc don't benefit as much as they used too. And Jhin needed a boost, he's been quite weak lately. Lucian...needs a rework so he stops abusing every damage item ever.

Biggest offender is Duskblade, it has been reworked the first time to stop being abused by champs like MF, and now they removed lethality scaling and just gave it a giant damage boost so it can now again be abused by MF.

As far as I know, 7.14 statistics still has pure crit builds slightly edging out lethality in terms of winrate on Jhin. Lucian still doesn't touch it, so I believe there is a lack of double-checking statistics here.

Duskblade itself is designed to be much more effective on solo laners than duo laners. Also, it's naturally much better on roaming / ganking champions. Jhin is neither of those. The reason he builds those items is that he is able to use the stats effectively, as he is a unique adc whose dps isn't hurt as much by forgoing AS/crit and gains increased ability damage from going without those stats. That in itself is not abuse.

Also, the reasons duskblade isn't melee only is because not only does its on-hit damage require being out of vision which diminishes the ranged-melee disparity by a large margin, but that champions like Quinn rely on it to be played properly.

And anyways, lethality is strong this patch for all its users. If we're going to complain about ADCs being the only bot laners, the least that can be done is not relegating them to one build path.

You can't treat Lethality as Assassin only stat because it's not. Other champions can also work with it and they should, if the play style is healthy to support.

"Melee only' tag isn't something new for Riot. Hydras and Runaan's do have this tag which means that the passive effects of the items only work for the specific champions that fulfill the requirement of melee ranges. The thing about items you should know is that not every item needs this tag as many of the items don't need to be narrowed down to specific champions in question.

##I'd rather have "This item is only a [X]% effective for ranged champions" than straight "fuck you, this item is unusable by easy as fuck ranged champions. Go play real champions, you wanker" tag.

Actually they had a perfectly valid reason; AD assassins were struggling to be useful. Please do not spread misinformation by portraying Riot's balance team as idiots who would make a change for no reason.

Add Quinn to that list

Last Whisper being abused by ADCs? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that exactly the class the item was made for?

You know, I don't think I can remember when Jhin wasn't meta. I don't blame the players, he's pretty well designed, he's fair to play against, but still. Seeing too much Jhin. Where the Sivirs at? I want to see more champions. Makes the game more interesting.

Mainly just 30 champions I see a lot of, and sometimes another 50 that see occasional play. Anything else is nonexistent. Their purpose is only to decorate the champion select screen with their faces.

Riot? Going in circles?

Never...

PrinceOfStorms7/17/2017, 11:08:22 AM3 votes

The reason why the buffed lethality is to make assassins better against ADCs.

Should have just thrown ADCs into the trash bin labeled "design failures" along with old Poppy if you ask me.

If it was that easy, do you really think we would still be having this problem? Last time I checked, you weren't on the balance team and don't know any of its inner workings. You have no right to call them out if you don't even understand how it works.
