suppose i have 100 armor and 100 mr which gives me 50% physical/magic damage reduction ( i think) how does this stack with 12% damage reduction from phantom dancer against whoever i attack 12% damage converted to dot by deaths dance 10% basic attack damage reduction by ninja tabi can i just add them up?

Multiplicative. Probably Death's Dance first since it's very strong, then 12% of the remaining is reduced by PD, then Tabis then armor.

They work seperately, so if the enemy has no armor pen and you get basic attacked for 100 damage when you have only a phantom dancer you would take (100 - 12% 88 *.5 = 44) 44 damage. You can't just add the multipliers together 100 - (50 + 12) = 38 as that would make defenses too strong. They each count one at a time, so combining those items makes you tankier, but not invincible. You also have to account for enemy armor/magic pen, and true damage which ignores all of those items + your resistances.
