The problem with Riven is that even if she happens to lose her lane (not by a large margin, i can tell you that) she can still be useful to her team. And THAT is something not all the melee rooster can do.
If she manages to win the lane, she begins to either, jump around like a bunny to win another lanes and set behind everything she can slit. OR, if her team has not been struggling, she will try to pressure or split top or bot.
If she did not managed to win the lane she will either:
- wait the for the jungler to set her back on trail again. It's one of those champs that can get herself into the game again, after being pushed away.
- Roam to try to get a kill and rotate from there. It's usually mid into top again.
- Play passive while hugging the turret trying to stall the lane as much as possible, csing in the process, and utilizing the hard CC aspects of her kit to ensure a skirmish or teamfight. During that time, trying to dive the Riven is often a really bad idea. She is one of those champions that can turn around the table in an instant.
Overall, she is really hard to deal with, specially the OTPs that mastered her and all her good and bad match-ups. People just rather give her the ban button.
And, for those wondering, "what can we pick to deal with her?"
Head to head, toe to toe: Renekton, Olaf.
Window to win: Darius, Trynda, Kled.
Don't take it for granted with the picks i listed, you still require the knowledge to pull it off. This is one of those match-ups that even if you win the lane, you haven't entirely been granted with advantage. It sux, but that's how Riven works, and she is here to stay it seems.
