why do people think this doesn't need nerfs?

I was being 1v2'd by a Warwick/Tristana and Tristana died from auto attacking me before Warwick could eventually finish me off.

Lifesteal?

Lifesteal?

It is realistically impossible to out-lifesteal Thornmail, much less both Gromp buff and Thornmail. It requires over 16k gold of lifesteal/MR/penetration just to break even with the Thornmail if they do not take base armor of the Thornmail user into account.

Blood Thirster gives 20 percent life steal. Add in a Blade of the Ruined King and last whisper with a few crit damages and you can out sustain him.

That's not enough lifesteal.

For the maths:

{quoted}

If an ADC has both BT and BotRK, he'll either lack IE or a dedicated MR item.

Let's go with the lack of dedicated MR item first: 30 MR + 27 from runes (assuming all per-level MR) = 57 MR for our carry. With a dedicated MR item like Banshee's, that would be 112 MR.

Target has, let's say, 150 Armor after penetration (which is feasible between Thornmail, base Armor and another big Armor item like Randuin's).

The actual damage each auto does is irrelevant, as both Lifesteal and Thornmail's damage are a direct function of it.

So, for the defenseless carry first: Thornmail damage = 0.3 D x (1 - 57/157) = 0.191 D Health return = LS x D x (1 - 150/250) = LS x D x 0.4 For Thornmail damage = Health return: 0.191 D = LS x D x 0.4 LS = 47.75% The defenseless carry needs 47.75% Lifesteal to negate Thornmail's damage alone

For the one with the defensive item: Thornmail damage = 0.3 D x (1 - 112/212) = 0.142 D Health return = LS x D x (1 - 150/250) = LS x D x 0.4 For Thornmail damage = Health return: 0.142 D = LS x D x 0.4 LS = 35.38% The carry without IE needs 35.38% Lifesteal to match Thornmail's damage. Even with the build with LS runes, he can only reach 34.5% Lifesteal. And said carry actually gives up his crit potential with this build.

ADDENDUM: There's a single possible way with that double Lifesteal build to outheal Thornmail: If the defensive item of the carry in question is Spirit Visage, as that item boosts all sources of healing by 20%, giving our carry effectively 41.4% Lifesteal. But that is only if the target has 150 Armor after penetration and no other form of anti-physical damage (Ninja Tabi, for example).

Killing the tank late game should always be a team effort in my opinion unless you outplay them hard

this was around 25ish minutes though

If we use that logic then it'd also be fair for tanks to be unable to kill anything without it being a team effort but Gromp buff and Cinderhulk contradict that completely.

tanks will beat an adc on their own if it's mid game. sounds like you were fed if tristana doesn't have a last whisper at least then killing thornmail+gromp poison sion is undoable you can just wait out the poison buff if it's mid game, doesn't last very long late game it is a bit much if their team is behind

"tanks were bad for a tiny bit so now they're allowed to be ridiculously overpowered whilst not building any damage whatsoever"

whenever you say tanks needs nerfs.

I did the same thing in a 1v1 against a Zed with Rammus by buying item 3075 on HA. I got fed, and let him kill himself.

Link to match history please, so we can check your build.

To counter thornmail, you're going to need sustain. To deal more damage, you'll want to build LW at some point. If they build a lot of health on top of armor, botrk will help (AND on-hit effects won't be returned by thornmail).

And if it's really an issue, wit's end can help. It takes away their MR a bit (making it easier for your support/apc to deal a little more damage) boost your MR (which reduces damage from thornmail!) and gives a fair bit of attack speed.

And if you see them with gromp buff, don't auto them unless you have sustain and someone to stand between you and the tank. Use botrk's active if you have it, use your poking skills, and peel if you have to. Ignore the tank if you can afford to.

if they don't do something soon its gonna be league of tanks, already been stomped by two all tank metas vs normal meta(and yes even with everyone building apen/magic pen its just too much) edit: I say this as someone who enjoys playing tanks over damage dealers as well, the tank damage is just to damn high specially with tanks like voli that can build FULL tank and get massive damage because of it
