Lack of Aura Support Items

We need items like bulwark and stuff. Something that allows me to build either armor, mr, or a little of both and give some of the bonus to my allies. Overdominance of ap poke lanes bot will be made much better this way.

we can have frozen heart aura which is a big attack speed debuff without a problem, abyssal mask which is a huge magic dps boost without a problem, we can have armor/mr aura items without a problem, especially given that they will be lower impact when it comes to teamfight stage.

15% reduced AS on enemy xin jg, irelia mid and vayne ADC is way more cripping and not visible or abyssal mask on a ryze mid ekko jg and rumble top than 25-35 armor or mr that a sp aura item would give.

the not visible thing is not a good argument given frozen heart and abyssal mask exist and are more impactful.

It would reduce snowballing in the early game which is why it is not there. It requires enemies to actually check enemy items which most low elo players are too braindead to do (the number of times ive played ryze mid and rushed frozen heart before any other item even boots) against zed who has his serrated dirk just from farm and 2 deaths to to me still trying to all in me when im 100% health is too much. and this is in gold.

The champions, their kits, runes, items, everything points to just one thing - increase flashy twitch based gameplay to attract as many kids with their mothers credit cards as possible, and make tournaments sell more seats because of fast paced gameplay.

not a shred of care to making a quality game.

Well, knights vow is only armor and a tiny amount at that. not to mention the passive is useless on squishy ranged supports.

relic shield also only for melee, and you often take harass when going in to use it anyway. doesnt really increase sustain just offsets the harass you would take to get the gold a little.

My issue is magic damage in bot lane. Brand, xerath, veigar, lux, viktor, malphite, even blitz.

Blitz with targons without his ally in the lane at level 4 did 60% of my hp with just Q and knockup. Thats straight up oppressive given his utility.

and the endless poke from all the bot lane mages, and ezreals and kaisas around, really needs some offset. Yeah, could pick soraka yuumi or nami or sona or something but losing all in potentional towards poke + all in bot isnt good.

'invisible stats' might be an issue only if riot is handholding low game knowledge players and promoting more twitch based fast paced gameplay, which is exactly what they are doing which is bad.

Its all about the money. Focus on balance for pro-play and on the opposite side focus on gaining more playerbase for RP purchases. No care for the rest of the players who want to use their brains and experience balanced gameplay. its just shameful.

Also, theres no reason athenes cannot heal the person who owns it when they shield themselves.

no logic behind riot's actions, just $$$

The game used to have a lot of aura support items but then Riot don’t like the idea of Aura support so they got rid most of the auras and nerf the rest to the ground.

Sona used to be a true bard support with aura provide base stats but Riot reworked her and then continue to nerf her whenever she appear on pro play, now she become a gold hungry support with a Hp bar of a ward.

I actually like aura items in theory, but the way Riot has implemented them historically was problematic. They are undervalued because they aren't very visible and they tend to be weak because of their 100% uptime. Allies and enemies can't really play around them very well because they can't see their radius or whether they are effected by them. They also can't be too visible without cluttering up the game if they have 100% uptime.

I think item 3110 would be better if it had an cooldown-limited active effect or mana-costing toggle that would allow it to create a stronger and more visible blizzard aura around the user. Because it would have either a cooldown or a cost, it could be much stronger and more visible.

I would also like to see something like the old Zeke's Herald come back, as an item for the marksmen to buy if they want to buff their teammates. It could have an inspire morale effect, where the user gains a ramping up buff as they autoattack enemy champions or epic monsters. After 5 stacks of the buff, they would inspire the morale of nearby allies, creating a buff aura effect.

I would also like to see a new tank item with a lightning rod aura effect, somewhat similar in purpose to the old item 3105 aura. It would protect nearby allies in the aura from some incoming AOE magic damage, but it would redirect some of the intercepted damage to the owner.

All of these would be very visible effects, so it would be easy for players to recognize their impact.

item 3109 Its not an aura, but you want an item against poke botlanes, so i suppose you only need to protect adc, so its enough

Its going to be impossible to make strong defensive support items as long as other roles have access to them.

Support items are constantly under threat of solo lane abuse. Hence, we cant have nice things.

I miss when there was several aura items, but riot removed most with the excuse of 'hidden power', despite they all clearly added some ring graphic around the champion in question. However they've been hypocrites in that more recent champions (and some reworks) have often been overloaded kits with extra effects other players cannot see beforehand, hidden power.

You can both buy a dorans shield for a combined 900 cost. What you are asking is super problematic. Because if an aura is good in 2v2 it is bound to be broken in scenarios with more players.

Buy boots early so you can sidestep too, A LOT of pots, and you will be ok.

Kovorix10/8/2019, 4:03:02 PM1 votes

Weren't some aura items removed because they were to "uninteractive"?

Bugog10/8/2019, 11:25:17 PM1 votes

The problem with aura items is how required they become if they're relevant. It reminds me of the season 3 aegis/locket where you gave everyone near 20 or 30 magic resist.

It was a must buy, but it wouldn't help in the current bot lane mage clownshow. Bot mages are bananas off the first and second back*, and a properly cost aura item would be out of reach at those points.

*this is assuming that tier 2 gold item + boots for first back, second back is probably up to lost chapter gold

Wolfeur10/8/2019, 11:33:11 PM1 votes

They purposefully removed aura items because they found it was hard to appreciate and not interactive

Like this? item 3109

Riot has stated in the past that "invisible stats" are not good, and in general players agree (old Taric, anyone?). They dont feel impactful to the player because you cant really see what difference they make without looking closely, and other players cant really tell either. And they are boring.

Of course, having 5 different actives is another kind of issue. Note how a lot of support items (and runes) have transitioned to being additional effects for other actions.

There are a lot of ways to increase lane sustain; relic shield, various runes, a few items. Adding more passive stats would have to be done carefully, even more so for healing.

Something like converting damage to shields into a regen effect for an ally would be cool..
