What's Everyone's Thoughts On Skarner?

So this is just a general question that popped into my mind but what is everyone's view on Skarner now a days? To be honest I haven't seen many games with him whatsoever after a while, the only recent game being in ARAM. I'm sure there are people who do play him and enjoy doing so but why is he not picked that often since his rework? Granted if everyone says it's because of his pillars I can understand, but is that just it or is it something else? He still seems like he's a good jungler, even with the jungle changes. Also does this mean the rework didn't work out as it should for him, like Mordekaiser?

I think he was better without the crystal spire mechanic his unaskedfor rework gave him.

It's a constant game of tag where no one really wins.

I don't think he's bad by any means, there are just a lot of picks that out-class him. Every once in a while ill face a Skarner and get relatively annoyed by his ult, but he doesnt make nearly as much of an impact as many of the competitive picks.

I love him, but he's got bad synergy, and his passive prevents me from playing him. It's a distraction, it's useless, I hate it.

As a Mastery 6 Skarner, He's very uninspired and overloaded.

He's overloaded in the sense that they just sort of threw mechanics at him until he became viable.

He's uninspired because of his lack of interesting gameplay outside of 'run at someone and slash them to death', and every single ability has the word 'Crystal' tacked onto it.

His general playstyle, though, is awesome. I disagree with how they reclassified him as a Vanguard after the Juggernaut stuff. Juggernaut is the perfect class for him; he's a fast, run-down duelist, similar to Udyr. He does a lot of damage up close, with his main uniqueness being his sticking power compared to other Juggernauts.

I enjoy playing Skarner alot, but as someone else said, there are better choices. His passive is very situational and becomes a distraction when figuring out where you should be. Also, because he lacks any form of reliable gap closer, it's very easy to kite him when late game happens. I feel Skarner can perform very well in Bronze- Gold but any higher his weaknesses start to show alot more.

He's mechanically dull and the only reason he's not in the bottom 5 pickrates instead of the bottom 10 is because he's strong enough to see competitive play even though he's exactly the type of jungler who should be unsuited to pro play (immobile, low early pressure, has viable hard counters). He feels weak to play despite being statistically strong and competitively viable. His kit is an incestuous mess of bad mechanics and the remnants of failed reworks.

End story: he's boring, and no one talks about it because everyone stopped giving a fuck about Skarner a long time ago. Repetoir said some changes might come in the preseason, and we all knew it wasn't happening.

I disagree with some of these posts. Skarner is fun to play, and he's fucking good right now.

While he doesn't have a unique kit, it is fun to play with nonetheless. He's super versatile, fulfilling multiple roles at different time of the game.

Play him, you'll see.
