Rito locking threads that don't adhere to their opinion

Blåbæret··48 votes·2,959 views

As if the game being shit isn't reason enough to warrant a complaint. Hey man, let Evelynn oneshot tanks and squishies alike while we nerf Heimer and Kayle.

The balance team and Ghostcrawler is doing a fantastic job right now! Let's lock every thread that isn't "constructive".

Heya, I'm the one that locked the thread. As you said, we will strive to lock or remove threads that are not constructive and consist solely of people calling for the firing of Rioters and/or saying they're shit at their job or similar.

Complaining about the game is fine. Making an entire post about how shit a person is at their job, instead of complaining about the work they've done, is not okay. The balance team is just that - a team. They work together, and it's unfair to call one person out for changes that were approved on many levels before making it into the game.

As was said in the locking message, if anyone has any questions about what's appropriate and not please do not hesitate to contact us in the Boards Moderation Discord server.

well constructive cristicism is good when you need to learn 1 or 2 thing but when you have over 20 years of experience its more like scold you deserve at this point .

Chermorg22 votes

None of us are in a position to scold someone who works for Riot. It is childish and not constructive to harass someone with no constructive feedback

You further must realize most of the criticism is opinion based on a small worldview, whereas the balance team must look at the entirety of the game. Just because you think something or don't like it does not mean someone should be fired or is bad at their job.

Hibeki21 votes

No, when you tell your child that what they have done is wrong and they dont listen, you dont continue to criticize. You scold them.

Because thats what is happening. They refuse to listen to the criticism that they ask for like children.

Chermorg24 votes

Riot is not your child. You are not in a position of authority over them. This situation is more like the child "scolding" the parent for not buying them candy at the store.

Hibeki23 votes

That's not the way business work. The consumer has the power. If the consumer doesn't like how the business is going, they stop purchasing and the business go under.

We as the consumers have the power. Not you. I can see why riot doesn't listen anymore, because they seem to think that they hold the power unlike every other business in the world.

Were scolding you for worsening a product that we have already purchased. We are paying for a service and you continually make the experience of that service worse. We have every right to complain.

So no, its not the child scolding the parent as you put. Its the parent scolding the child.

And yes, we are in a position of authority over riot. Consumers make a business successful. Not the staff.

Chermorg17 votes

You are not the manager for whoever you are complaining about. You are not their boss or manager. You can complain about the company or the decisions it's made. You cannot call for the firing of a person.

Hibeki17 votes

Yes, You can. People who hold stocks of a company hold influence of the staff.

Just like the consumers do. If you want to keep your consumers happy, you listen to them. If they don't like the staff in charge and they are continually making decisions that effect your income from the consumers, You'd better listen or you'll get bankrupt.

I really don't care about your personal views. This is how the capitalist market has worked and always will work. To say Riot Games is different is completely ridiculous.

Chermorg11 votes

You do not hold stock over Riot. Holding stock is the same as being part owner - you are not part owner at Riot at all.

You can complain about the game. You can refuse to buy content. You cannot harass an individual/group of individuals by calling for their firing for no reason.

Hibeki18 votes

Yes, I can. I as the consumer have the power to express if I want someone fired.

It doesn't matter what you say. The consumer has the power to do that. You failing to listen to your consumers demand will only lead to your demise, and it will be because of your ignorant view that the consumers opinion has no power that Riot Games will eventually go under.

So yes, I can call for a change in staff. Just like any other consumer.

And if you dont, unhappy consumers means less money. And don't act like you dont care about that, because Riot's Actions as a whole have shown that they are gaining much less money.

The amount of skins released this year compared to new characters is so unbelievably high because people aren't willing to spend as much money anymore.

You only make the skins for the popular champions at the time because you want to milk every last penny you can.

Riot is getting desperate for money. The artificial inflation in the Lootbox economy, your skins, the attitude of your balance team, all reflect this.

Calling for someone's firing or resignation isn't harassment. Harassment has to be excessive and consecutive.

Anatera20 votes

Is that why people call for the firing of someone, like, all the time? Because they're the boss or manager?

https://www.dailybreeze.com/2017/09/18/consumer-group-calls-for-firing-of-ladwps-official-customer-advocate/

Here's a random article I quickly found from a few months back. I guess that consumer group is actually the boss/manager of that advocate?

Chermorg12 votes

That's a public entity who serves the public. There's an extremely obvious difference here with a private company and private individual who you are not obligated to interact with in any way if you don't want to, versus the public utility for a city.

Anatera17 votes

Don't see why that's different, unless you're cherry picking items here. We pay taxes and we expect them to function a certain way. I and many others pay Riot with the expectation that they'll function a certain way.

Chermorg12 votes

The public entity and their employees are there to serve at the public's whim. Riot does not serve us. They create a game that we choose to play. And they are not at the whim of the public, like a government agency is.

You are free to stop paying Riot. Those people are not free to magically have a different utility board.

Furthermore, that is a consumer advocate group calling for the firing - not individual consumers. In this case, the consumer advocate group is acting as a "mini-HR" - it is taking complaints from people and turning that into a solid case against the person. That is impossible to do for a Rioter for many reasons.

Anatera17 votes

The reality is hardly that simple. People have invested time and money, and in some cases, relationships into this game. Simply saying, just stop playing, is an extreme oversimplification of the issue.

Hibeki17 votes

No, we are paying for a service. The consumers, not the staff, have brought Riot to its success and its absolutely reasonable for us to want a change when things take a dive for the worse.

AirKingNeo11 votes

If I find them harmful to the company (or this case, the game), of course, I can. Politicians are forced to resign over failure. Same with employees. People call for politicians and high-level employees to resign all the time upon grand failure.

Riot has gone to grand failure. The gas station of top lane blew up because the worker didn't care. In reality, they get fired.

Ralanr16 votes

Riot isn't the child in this.

AirKingNeo8 votes

I like American colonies and British comparison.

Britain has the responsibility to their colonies and is, instead, mistreating them.

Ralanr11 votes

And I think you're taking it to such an extreme to paint yourself more as the rebel forces fighting the big bad empire, following the mindset that you as the small minority are in the right in this vast and ignorant world that is clearly out to get you.

Seriously, the allegories are getting out of hand.

If you think I became a mod to make friends you a sorely mistaken.

Jmman1 votes

power/control then?

Not being mean but its just they way you are coming off. Control issues / unable to try and understand the whole picture and other people view points. (not saying either view point is correct. Just you can't or don't want to see it)

Ralanr4 votes

Frankly I’m probably coming off as more aggressive with just how gameplay has been lately. Normally I try to be a bit more friendly but everyone has been incredibly aggressive so I guess.

I became a mod because I care about the community and want to see it get better. I know it can be.

LOSINGISMYPRIDE11 votes

Riot is a company , human are ppl working at riot , Two different thing . Im not scolding human im scolding a company and their way of procedding . If the way they do harm the experience of the game of many player i think they should get scolded because they just pissed in my tea and that piss me off . Scolding someone with responsability is just use to make them remember who theyre and wht they do isnt cool .

Chermorg13 votes

If you want to complain about the direction of the game, please do. If you are calling out a specific person, or calling for firing/etc. It will generally not be okay.

You are free to provide criticism on the games balance and direction, just do so politely and constructively.

And again, you and I are not in a position where we have the right to scold Riot. That is not our place.

Blåbæret15 votes

? I support Rito through my purchases, without which they'd be a dead business. I sure as heck have the authority to raise my complaints against them.

People won't pay for something that sucks.

Chermorg11 votes

You can complain. Saying "I don't have any information about riot internally but X deserves to be fired and is shit" is not complaining, it's harassment.

Blåbæret16 votes

Nah my man, it's called accountability.

Chermorg8 votes

And you can complain about the game. You are paying for the game. So complain about the game.

You have absolutely no authority over individual Riot teams or employees - you don't pay them. You pay for the game. Their managers and HR will scold/discipline them if they are underperforming. You are not their manager or HR.

MysticDreams1215 votes

Apparently you aren't understanding anything because we keep telling you all, with facts, that yes, we ABSOLUTELY have the authority to ask for a firing.

Chermorg9 votes

No, you don't. And we will continue to remove threads with no substance that are simply to harass a Rioter by calling for their firing. If the thread has more content than just that, it will be at moderator discretion as to edit, delete, or leave untouched.

Simple rule - don't harass Rioters.

MysticDreams1211 votes

Yes, we do.

And you all doing that is just abusing your power because you see some frustrated people complaining about something and are like "oh no, this person is gonna hurt X's little ego!" and push a button to punish them without talking to them about why they feel that way or whatever.

I already told you, multiple times, that people know why we are calling for their firing. It's already been put in threads. They don't need to put it in anymore. We have substance in our threads, you all just don't see that.

We aren't harassing. Period. It's calling for someone who has constantly been pushing the game into a crap hole for years to be removed so the game can get BETTER.

Chermorg8 votes

You do not have substance. You have complaints about game features which cannot be attributed to one individual, you then use those general complaints to call for the firing of someone who is, in some cases, not even anywhere near remotely responsible for the things you're complaining about.

Until Riot describes their internal structure and projects publicly, the community has no way of "assigning blame" for something to someone. As such, attempting to say someone needs fired because they're at fault for something is inappropriate.

MysticDreams1211 votes

Apparently you don't do your research. We do have substance. We DO HAVE THE FEATURES OF WHAT GHOSTCRAWLER HAS DONE.

Yes, he is the one responsible. Do you see anyone else calling for a certain X's head? No! It's GC, for good reason.

We do have the ability to assign blame if we know what they did. It's appropriate to call them out for it.

What's not appropriate is you censoring us for it and then not even discussing about what we are complaining about.

GayFluffyUnicorn3 votes

How old are u? 12? Ofc we pay them. Those wo invest into LoL obviously also pay the employee? Dafuq?

Galacius5 votes

Hey,

Let's not delve into personal attacks. Calling him 12 doesn't help the discussion or refute any of his points. If you want to give feedback, you can do so constructively.

Votable Jester5 votes

Well instead of saying "x person needs to be fired," It may work better to say "x thing is horrible, and riot should examine the person responsible."

That way the complaint is still targeted at a specific problem (or set of problems) in game, and they can't claim that you're targeting the wrong person.

MysticDreams1215 votes

But censoring us is not fine. Maybe if the people who actually worked at Riot did their jobs well, we wouldn't be calling for their heads.

Like one person I found a little bit ago said- if you are a leader of a team who has been ruining the balance of the game for 3 years, that leader would be fired in any other organization. It's the Rioter's fault just as much as it's the team's fault.

And with all the backlash that you have been getting, don't you think something must be done about what they are complaining about??

Chermorg21 votes

Censoring is not what's happening here. Preventing harassment is. How do you honestly expect Riot to come discuss things when every response is going to b "you suck riot should fire you"?

You may hold the opinion that someone is doing a bad job. It is not a majority opinion, no matter how much you think it is. And even if it was, it is Riot's decision, not yours, who they hire and fire.

Offer constructive criticism on balance, don't try and take over Riot's HR department.

MysticDreams1220 votes

It is censoring, no matter what you call it.

Riot doesn't even come to discuss things when we are constructive. So when we call them out, then we only get these volunteer mods who give us a spanking and delete our threads. No where do we have any discussion from the actual Red we are talking about or any other Red for that matter.

From what I've seen, the majority opinion is that they want a certain Red fired.

We just want to help persuade the HR department to fire them. Not get censored for it.

Chermorg17 votes

You are not in a position to influence riots internal HR processes and attempting to get someone fired is harassment, plain and simple.

MysticDreams1216 votes

We are the consumer here. Just like that one person said, we do have the right and the influence to persuade HR to fire someone. You all just don't listen and punish anyone who speaks out against you without even responding to the thread.

It's not harassment. Everyone knows what this certain Rioter has done. No one needs to keep offering their proof of it. Saying "X needs to be fired, he ruined the game" is perfectly fine, plain and simple**, when every knows why.**

RenownedWheat4230 votes

Threads that just consist of "FUCKING FIRE THE BALANCE TEAM" don't really serve a purpose and them getting deleted is more than fine imo. There are plenty of threads on here that insult Riot/call them out that they leave up. Some just go too far or have no legitimate reason to be here.

Death by Glamour15 votes

Lets be honest threads discussing game balance seem to not serve a purpose as riot rarely if ever contributes to them.

Let alone most of the problems with the game have been discussed for months now and riot hasnt done a thing to fix them

xelaker4 votes

a lot of these threads are like this, yes, but so many more have legit meat to their arguement. Nice strawman arguement though.

AirKingNeo18 votes

Not sure if Eve is oneshotting tanks, but I do agree with two things you've said:

  • Why the fuck are Heimer and Kayle being nerfed while other champions/keystones break the game?

  • "Constructive" is a vague term and could eventually turn into censorship of anything not agreed with.

  • However, I would say the recent thread on the front that just got locked shouldn't have even existed for as long as it did. It was definitely not constructive.

xelaker3 votes

heim did need a love tap. and Kayle...KAYLE! haven't seen her in game in like 2 years tbh.
