"Quinn top hasn't been the meta since her release."

Hi,

Is top lane Quinn still a viable choice for use in Ranked games? I tried her out one or two days ago after playing her for over 100 Normals, but was given negative attitude and called a "troll" throughout the entire match due to my pick. To make matters worse, I gave the enemy Garen First Blood and then he proceeded to snowball so hard my team was sent into oblivion.

Granted, this was my first ever Ranked game altogether, so it may be that my nerves got the best of me or perhaps my lack of experience, causing me to lose my lane and later the game. But is it true that a top lane Quinn simply won't work given the current state of League of Legends? Quinn is a whole lot of fun to play and I don't want to sacrifice using her just because some people think she's a bad choice.

Thanks,

Zelardo

If that was your first ranked game ever, then you're most likely matched with low MMR players. If you're comfortable with a champ, stick to it. If you're legitimately trying to get a champion to work in a role, ignore the "troll" accusations.

Also, give her a crack in the midlane. Roaming top or bot with ult.

Level 1 with an E start you can, Passive proc AA, E, Passive proc AA, will out-trade almost any mage, and they will not be used to that kind of lane dmg that early. You can literally almost chunk them to half with just that combo.

Remember you can somewhat control the passive proc by AAing the champion you want to before Valor marks them and staying in range. If you don;t land an auto on the champ first, valor will probably end up marking a minion, but just attack the champ between that mark and the next one, then immediately try and land the double proc combo. Do not take a turret shot to do so tho, as this will not be worth.

Start longsword and pots, rush Hex, then go for your BoRK. Upgrade to maw later.

Quinn is a lane bully, if you are not aggro early and getting that proc dmg off right away to zone your opponent you will have trouble. Make them respect the dmg. Especially against any melee champs (top more than mid)

The thing with garen is that keeping your distance is key, you could open with your Q before he hits you with his, but if you mess it up and do get silenced, he will spin on you and there is little you can do about it. I recommend keeping your distance.

Another matchup that you may not see as often but is tricky to play is Xin. If you ever fight a Xin make sure you don't get greedy and try to double proc him. Save your E for when he dashes in and immediately vault away from him. You do not want him to ever knock you up with the third hit of his Three Talon strike.

You could also try item 3153 item 3022 as your 1st and 2nd, works especially well for kiting and makes you a bit beefier if they are able to close on you.

Bllnd doesn't remove on hit effects, you still get silenced by his Q, stunned by Udyr...

Even more of a reason to do what i said, just vault away to be safe and AA him like crazy. Save the q to try and stop his passive healing when he backs off under turret. He stops regen'ing when he takes dmg.

Ignore the naysayers and just play her. If you doubt her viability, just check out Voyboy's stream when he's running her.

Quinn top is becoming (More like already is, as it has been for a while now.) better than picking her bot as the adc. You counter a large majority of the people on top and for any of them that have something to get to you or bring you to them you can easily just bounce away to safety, not to mention how most tops are ad and you can blind any autoattacks.

I would say it depends. Given the current tank heavy meta, unless your team has the tankiness the need from elsewhere (jungle or support for example), then it probably isn't the best idea (unless the other team is also laking on tanks). Now in any case, if you can play the role efficiently, and you can do well against tanks and other common top laners, then by all means go for it (but make sure to practice first! :P) I play Quinn a lot (albeit as a bot lane ADC and not as a top laner), and she really excels at bursting down squishies, so her tank killing is a little weak, so maybe consider more of a bruiser/fighter build on her, as opposed to glass canon, going for things such as armor shred/pen and survivability

Thanks, everyone. I think I will continue to play Quinn in Ranked matches as I'm very comfortable with this Champion overall (troll accusation anxiety aside). I wish I could hear a bit from those who voted "No" on the poll, however. I'd like to know why some don't think she is a viable top laner, given the right setup.

I just watched this... those are some amazing plays.

You really can't lose lane with Quinn top, but it's reliant on taking turret early and roaming to win other lanes for them so you can end the game as soon as possible, since having 2 ADC's is going to screw your late game.

Quinn Top is a counterpick against things like Riven. Riven cant do anything against Quinn. She gets Vaulted the moment she tries to all in and there ends her all-in. She isnt as anti-tank as Vayne tho.

Quinn top is better against enemies that can't prevent her from making plays and full use of mechanics. garen vs quinn was lost when the match started because of his silence.

Getting caught in Garen's silence can be disastrous when you're playing as Quinn, but I don't think that means she will always lose her lane to him, or that Garen will always come out on top. I think I just wasn't playing smart enough during that match.

On the bright side, I just won my second Ranked match ever and got 6 kills, 0 deaths, and 3 assists playing as Quinn in the top lane. I was up against a Darius and I have to say I'm feeling much better overall about playing her in Ranked mode now. My teammates were cool with my choice so that was a plus.

Actually I main Quinn top and i destroy garen. Poke him poke him poke him with auto-attacks, and the second he q's at you, get ready to vault just before he makes contact, he will silence you as you hit him with vault, but you will still bounce off to safety and he will probably start spinning without hitting you. Continue to auto while silenced, and keep your distance. You will have marked him also and if you have points in your W you will have the movement buff to help keep your distance.

Isn't his Q an on-hit attack? Why not open with yours and THEN Vault?

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Because on hits are still applied, you won't take the increased damage but you will get silenced. Unless his attack speed is too low to do his auto attack animation during Vault's casting time.

In my experience, Quinn hops right off Volibear without being grabbed, even though HIS Q is on-hit. That animation is also much faster than Garen's.

She works well against some champions.

But god help you if you fall behind even slightly, because there is absolutely no recovering.

Quinn top is good only vs bruisers that can't retaliate. Fighters with more than 1 gapcloser can burst her very fast.

Yes but tbh you're much better off playing Vayne if you plan on using an AD Carry in the Top Lane.

You can literally just get BotRK and TriForce on Vayne Top and then build full tank (I can actually confirm that this is viable, albeit situational).

EDIT: Also, Kalista Top. Kalista Top is toxic as f*ck

Disagree, Quinn is better top than even vayne. She has better roaming and ganking, ult from top and you are in midlane very fast.

Also, with regard to the point from @Durzaka , if you fall behind the key is to roam and help get kills in other lanes. Quinn excels at catching mid unawares or a tp bot lane catch especially once she has built her bork. Just remember to keep an eye if your bot lane follows you down, and try and return to stop them from pushing.

Also, if you do find yourself ulting to escape a gank in your own lane, try not to waste the ult, use it to escape with as little damage as possible, flash and ult if you have to, but then instead of retreating to the safety of your own tower and letting your ult expire, fly down and gank that midlane, there is no jungler that is going to be faster than you will getting down there. TL:DR - turn a gank in your lane into a counter-gank in another lane with the speed of your ult.

It's viable, but don't blind pick her in Draft mode. If someone knows how to play against a Quinn, they'll win. At the same time, if you play carefully, you'll beat most melees. You just can't get over confident.

Some people also say she doesn't do well in the tank meta. I disagree, since you can easily build item 3153 item 3142 item 3035. Awkward build path compared to most botlane ADCs, yeah. But it works best against tanks who will want to build Armor/Health.

Blue Collar Bear1 votes

When you take an off meta pick, your team gains and loses something. In this case, your team lost roaming tank and gained glass cannon split pusher. It forces your team to adapt, and most people do not know how to do that. Off meta picks can still work, but you have to rely on your team to know how to play with you.

I like to play AP Alistar when I can, and I've done it in ranked with large amounts of success. You just need to help your team understand, and have them help you.

  1. Almost eveything is viable, if someone bullies you because of your pick mute them and report them.
  2. Quinn bruiser can make good use of Valor contrarily to ADC Quinn, she outlasts other bruisers with her empowered autos she lifesteals from and her rather low cooldown interruption. Nice duelist, nice presence, decent splitpushing (gotta build for it tho).
Meep Man1 votes

She has one if the best disengages as an ADC and is balanced around being Melee part of the time. Her blind is also annoying with the recent change to blinds.
