Can we talk about Edge Of Night?

As an AP mid main, I'm mildly concerned about this becoming the new 'hex drinker rush'. Did we really need to give all ad assassins a banshees that doesn't get reset by damage?

I mean I'm more concerned about the fact that it lasts 10 seconds on a 30 second cooldown, where I feel it'd still be playable at 5 second duration on a 50 second cd. This is for the most part a better Merc Scimitar, and there's nothing stopping any AD assassin (or ADC for that matter) from just getting 'both'. Combined with the fact that Aegis is deleted which means that we'll be seeing an upswing of other support items (including Mikael's Crucible) makes me think we're going to be in a very cleanse-happy meta.

Yes, Aegis being removed is an AP-wide buff, but the current MR options look so good that you can justify some of them with only 1 AP champion on the enemy team.

Any damage during the channel cancels the channel and puts it on CD without the shield applying.

Its not going to be the new mid-lane rush. Its going to be 2nd or even 3rd item.

You should be more scared of Nocturne than mid-lane assassins due to this item.

That's presuming the assassin doesn't pre-charge it before engaging on you (and on the telegraphing of veil-charging), or popping out of a bush. It's on a long enough duration that you can get it going while on route to a target, as long as you're fairly sure you want to start a dive/confrontation in the next 5 seconds.

Nocturne will be scary with this, but he's hardly the only one that'll be able to do it. I mostly just feel like 10 seconds is excessive.

"blocks the next enemy ability" seems like it gets reset if you hit it with an ability.

It's great! Assassins are counters to mages and this is the perfect item for them. You have hourglass and rylais and you have used it all the time against your counters which is bs, now it's healthier fight, as it should be :) You should die from assassins

don't sweat the numbers too much, they are far from final.

But the fact that it fills a similar niche as Hexdrinker suggests to me that Hexdrinker might get a new identity down the line. (Perhaps tuned towards it's fighter audience)

But let's look at it's merits as an Assassin item. It offers Lethality, it offers roaming, it has an active spell shield that can block a spell and prevent lock down. Now said shield does have counterplay, as it takes time to charge, but yeah it has a long duration.

Over all, I still wouldn't call it an Assassin item. (in the sense that it would help them more than Lucian, Jhin, etc) With the given changes from armor pen to lethality, it's still going to be useful on just about anyone who calls themself an AD caster.
