@Riot Concerning Ezreal's Arcane Shift

I'd say it needs a rework/update, due to how unfair it is in certain aspects.

  • An experienced Ezreal can time it so that he ports even while CC'd.
  • ** It will auto-target stealthed champions, something that other non-ultimate auto-targeted abilities won't do. **

The thing that needs to change most, is the ability to nullify CC. I have no problem with him being able to dodge CC with clever use of Arcane Shift, but being able to nullify the effects of the CC that he's been hit by is unfair.

Auto-targeting stealthed champions is also unfair, but not nearly as unfair as the ability to nullify CC with it. Silences, stuns, roots, snares, stasis, knock ups, knock backs, and suppresses, Ezreal's Arcane shift works even when hit by any of these. Although getting it off when hit by a suppress is much more likely a fluke than not, it's still unfair.

The only type of CC I'm not sure about him being able to Arcane Shift while effected by it, is Cassiopeia's ground.

Being hit by CC should interrupt the cast of Arcane Shift, like it does Ryze's ultimate. A non-ultimate ability that lets him gapclose or escape while CC'd isn't fair, and should be reworked/updated.

An alternative, would be making it instantly cast like flash so it won't allow Ezreal players to escape while CC'd.

They would need to remove the delay and make it a flash...IF you want it to Avoid CC. You almost have to predict it.

I feel because it's not instant but has that delay I feel it is balanced how it is.

Actually Tristana can also W away from CC, although in her case once she is on the air she is back to being vulnerable (a dash) unlike ezreal that is a Blink

Ez's E is fine. I don't see a problem with it. The cast time for his E is almost instantaneous and if he's hit by a CC then he'll still be affected at the end of the cast.

The purpose of a lot of CC is to deny mobility and action, being able to escape/gapclose when hit by CC before the blink goes off is unfair and defeats the purpose of the CC. Abilities that make someone Un-CCable are completely fine, but a blink that lets you reposition yourself while you're CC'd isn't.

One example of how it's unfair, is that if hooked as he uses it, it cancels things like Blitzcrank or Nautilus's pulling Ezreal. He can also blink out of knockbacks, such as Lee's kick, Syndra's scatter the weak, and every other knockback out there.

Arcane Shift is a Flash with an almost instantaneous cast time so it make sense if he use it well/fast enough he'll escape those CC. He's still CC'd at the end of it though for what it's worth. In rare cases you can catch Ezreal while he's casting E.

My point was that it's a problem that an experienced Ezreal can consistently exploit it for a unfair advantage against CC reliant champions. Using it to dodge CC is completely fair, but continuing to blink after being hit with the CC really isn't fair on a non-ultimate ability.

An example of a champion with a similar blink would be Shaco, but Shaco will still be properly affected by things like pulls and knockbacks that hit him in the instant he blinks. Ezreal on the other hand, isn't affected.

It's not an exploit. Plenty of champion can abuse their mobility to avoid CC. The continuing to blink after getting hit by a CC make sense because he had already cast it first so it should go through first and at the same time the CC is still applied at the end. There's two abilities that blocks every projectile in the game as a non-ultimate ability so that's a poor point to make and also plenty of champs in this game have way more mobility than Ezreal.

Ezreal will actually still be affected by the CC just like Shaco. It applies after he uses his E just like after Shaco uses his Q.

There's no other blink that I know of which can cancel the effects of displacements while being affected by them. If Riot changed Ezreal's blink to instant movement like flash instead of a short delay, it'd actually be a lot fairer to the enemy team.

An experienced Ezreal being able to consistently dodge CC with Arcane Shift is no problem, I think it's a plus. But being able to maintain some mobility while being under the effects of CC, simply isn't fair.

I don't think it nullifies the CC. Blitzcrank hook will still stun him afterwards and morg binding will still stun him at his arrival point. I haven't tried with everything, but it doesn't nullify the CC, but only the point where he is cc'd.

The problem is that part of it is that you shouldn't be able to move/use movement abilities. It's unfair to a lot of players when you hit him with something like a root or snare, and he uses it to gapclose/escape even while CC'd. Against a lot of champions, it essentially has an effect similar to Olaf's ultimate.

But that's what makes Ezreal more reliable than say, Tristana. Ezreal has two strong points right now. A long-range on-hit effect ability and powerful mobility. Removing one of his core features would make him severely underpowered.

As I've said before in a few other comments, it'd be more fair to most players if Ezreal's Arcane Shift was instant like a flash so you could efficiently dodge CC while maintaining powerful mobility.

Catching a incredibly hard to hit and slippery enemy with non-point and click CC feels incredibly satisfying, like Fizz for example, but mobility while CC'd is rather unhealthy. CC immunity is strongly tied to ultimates, but the current Arcane Shift lets Ezreal ignore certain types of CC completely if you know how to time it.

Instant mobility that makes him slippery and hard to hit is a lot healthier than mobility that can ignore CC when it's not supposed to. Which is the biggest point that I have.

Fids crows also target stealthed units.

ReshiKillim1 votes

It's classified as a semi-autotarget, and won't target units after they stealth. Stealthing after it's been launched doesn't cause these to miss, nor should it. Same way stealthing doesn't break targeted tethers.

Arcane Shift however, doesn't care whether or not you're stealthed.

Friendly Ram1 votes

Nope it can hit stealthed teemos eves and rangos at the very least.

ReshiKillim1 votes

Well, if I'm wrong on that one I'm wrong on that one. But I do know, that Ezreal doesn't need to target something for Arcane Shift. And it's pretty annoying that it doesn't care if you're stealthed, over the wall, or in a bush when he ports. It's a 100% hit unless you've got a untargetability or spellshield.

It also ignores sight reductions.

So dumb

ReshiKillim1 votes

Yeah, I know right? Making a change that would make Ezreal harder to catch and healthier to play against is dumb.

this is by far the biggest issue i have with Ezreal and Tristana i 100% agree with the OP
