Disclaimer: This thread is for technical discussion of the new Champion Camille, the Steel Shadow. I am aware that there is a lot of balance discussion and complaints running around currently. I politely ask you to not do that here. This is purely a technicl discussion thread for her ingame mechanics, builds, matchups and observations. Thank you for being nice.

Contributions: Your ELO, playtime, general experience DOESN'T MATTER HERE. Got something constructive to say? Good! I will watch this thread over the day and add your contributions to this post. Thanks for contributing!

#General Observations

AS is next to pointless on her The only part of her kit that capitalizes off it, is her ult (%hp damage on every attack as long as camille is in the ult-zone). That doesn't mean however, that Phantom Dancer and BotRK don't work well with her. Camille is a natural splitpusher and any one of these makes dueling her a risky gambit. However as far as I'm concerned, both items are situational on her, and not early buys.

Her turret pressure is excellent Her Q is 2 autoattack-resets, both of which trigger Sheen. Even at early levels, Camille can do high damage to exposed turrets

Her E can cover large distances as an escape tool if fired at a low angle against a wall I would estimate at least 10 Teemos of total distance, or almost three times of a flash.

If E is not re-activated, ou can cling to a Wall for about 1 second This can be really useful to doge something like a Sion-Q when no safe jump off the wall is available.

Post level 6, the midlane is your oyster Gank. Mid. The E jumprange allows for superb initiations, and the ult makes an escape next to impossible. If you have a burst midlaner, and you are level 6 and your ult is up, you can secure kill after kill there.

Her W can be activated at almost any time Including using Q, E, during the R-animation, inflight.

Activating Titanic-Hydra before the second Q adds the damage to her true damage This may be wrong, I have to do more testing.

#Items and Item-Builds

My builds so far are pretty standard

item 3078 item 3074 item 3111 item 3143 item 3065 is what I would call her core.

I favor Ravenous over Titanic, as she isn't really relying on tankyness, and lifesteal does help a lot. However, if it does turn out that the Titanic + 2nd Q actually does what I think it does (see above) I may change my mind about that.

item 3812 may be of more use than Spirit Visage, especially if the enemy AP is not a major concern, and if its a burst mage it may even then. As pointed out, the fights don't really last long enough to get your moneys worth out of Spirit Visages passive. Plus: Extra damage :D

Whether you go item 3057 or item 3077 first is not an easy decision, in most cases so far I opted for Tiamat > Sheen, because Cams early problem is the wavecler. However, as both Qs activale Sheen, and the proc adds to her true damage, Sheen is a superior option in a lot of trading scenarios, and the CDR helps a ton.

item 3025 is an option in difficult matchups on toplane, but that is chiefly due to its lower price. Cam doesn't benefit that much from the slow, the Phage proc from TF synergizes way better with her playstyle. Anyhow, against heavy AD matchups, and as a safe PlanB to fall back to when behind, it is an option.

item 3156 Yes, works well, even when not against heavy AP...its sufficient to ruin nautilus day in a 1v1. Hydra+Hexdrinker is a good start in that , and similar matchups

Jungle build by Existingdark

item 1412 item 3812 item 3814 (if ahead) item 3156 (if not) item 3074

I tested the Edge/Hydra comboin the last game on toplane as well. So far I can say: Works pretty damn well!

#Masteries

Thunderlords decree is meh. Not because its weak but because you sacrifice a lot of damage from the offense to get it, and imo its not really worthwhile considering how spikey her damage is without it already. CotC is worth a look, it activares from bith her E-stun and her ultm if it knocks back another target.

So far, I have been happy with an 18/0/12 build going for Fervor, as her abilities allow her to build the stacks really quickly.

Warlords Bloodlust seems to work especially in a Jungle build.

Grasp of the Undying, especially in matchups where heavy damage is being traded, seems to be a suboptimal choice, compared to offensive Keystones such as Fervor or Warlords. Thanks Wind234 for trying it out.

#Runes

Nothing currently. Running standard AS quint AD Marks, ARM Seals, flatMR Glyphs on her. Didn't test anything else.

#Matchups

Nautilus Can be dealt with really well. If he doesn't take shield at level 1, you can push him out of lane early on. Your E allows you to prevent his "hit and run wears you down" style of playing safe trade patterns, as you can follow after his passive roots you. An early hexdrinker ruins his day.

Teemo I get the idea this guy had, blinding against the Q, but it doesn't really work. Camille is the one who initiates the fight with E, once the stun hits, its 2 quick Q, sacrificing the true damage bonus, and he loses the trade.

Camille This was the most absurd game I ever played in my life!. Seriously, I don't even want to talk about it, it was a complete mess :D

Riven This one is a problem. She can catch the second portion of your Q with her shield, and her trade patters match yours. Also, timed correctly, Ki-Strike will stun you when you try to E-jump on her, preventing YOUR stun from landing. In short, Riven is a hard matchup, because she beats you at your own game.

Sion Very simple lane. You can engage at will, and his Q will never hit at fulf strength if you play your cards right. Fun side note, your ult stops his ult. 1for1 kills with the passive can easily be avoided by E-ing away.

As expected, Camille is wedge driven in the tanky-toplaners meta. I have not played against a Poppy so far, but I expect the matchup will go similar to the one against Nautilus. The time to strike is when she just used her passive and is walking up to her shield, E-stun, Q, prevent shield from being collected, second Q. Ult can be used to juke hers.

Camille seems to be an excellent jungler to pick if you're looking to gank early and often. Maxing E on her first aids her clear speed a bit more than Q max, and makes ganks a bit more potent. Ult seems like a free "gank bot and single out adc" button. Her clear speed isn't exactly fantastic, but definitely workable.

As for the jungle build it's not much different, the obvious change being a jungle item which I will always build a Warriors enchanted Skirmisher's for the red smite true damage burn. I tend to prefer alternatives from OP's build choice, though. Namely, Death's Dance has become my personal favorite lifesteal item for the extra CDR and defense component it provides. I grab Edge of the Night when I'm ahead instead of Maw, for the extra movement speed and lethality. The active is rather nice, too. I'll have to see how things play out, but Spirit Visage seems a bit unnecessary in my opinion, since I generally don't spend enough time fighting a target to make enough use of the increased healing from lifesteal, and aside from that Warlords has me covered.

Titanic Hydra is another great choice to pair with items like Dead Man's, Edge of the Night, and Death's Dance to provide a lot of effective HP without losing out too much in damage. I'm one for cutting corners and squeezing in more DPS on champions like Cammy.

Runes were standard AD red Armor yellow MR/lv blue and AS quints Mastries were 18/12/0 with Warlord's Bloodlust keystone. Fervor is another great option, but I find the survivability more valuable. I run Double Edged Sword since the damage benefits clears as well as ganks, and Greenfather's for the extra damage during ganks.

Question, because clearly you have jungled a lot with her:

How does the Emax increase her clear speed, does the Attack-Speed buff trigger on large monsters? Or is it just for the incresed mobility in the jungle due to the lower cooldown-walljumping?

Thanks for the contribution, I will add several of your points to the OP.

The buff is 50% less effective if you hit a large monster if I remember the text correctly

I'm not really too good at these balance talks, but I can share what went down with my only Camille game so far. lol

I was up against a Fiora top lane, and I have to admit, I think Camille might struggle against her. Granted, I'm pretty bad in general, but I noticed that whenever I ulted her, Fiora would ult ME as well, and Fiora was always quicker getting her vitals off than I was doing any significant damage to her. Fiora is the Grand Duelist for a reason, and I think she simply out-trades Camille in close-quarters. Camille can prevent Fiora from leaving a zone, but then again, I think that's a case of "stuck in here with your enemy" instead. She doesn't have the lockdown really required to beat down on Fiora. Also, I think Fiora's Riposte can deflect her Q, which neuters a bunch of Camille's damage.

Now I ended up trying Grasp of the Undying on Camille because I thought the occasional sustain would help in a skirmish, but I was very wrong. Would not recommend taking that again, Camille doesn't have the waveclear or attack speed to really make use of it and by the time she does, it's sort of useless. I think I also made a mistake in building Ravenous Hydra before Trinity Force. Again, because I was against Fiora, I thought matching her sustain would help me in lane, but Fiora definitely out-sustains Camille.

Needless to say I lost hardcore. ^^; Not my proudest moment, but it did teach me things NOT to do with Camille. I'm hopeful that when I'm fortunate enough to get another shot with her, I'll do better.

Sharing moments of hard win is not the purpose of this thread, learning things is!

I thank you for your contribution and will add your observation about GotU to the OP.

One question, which runes did you play the matchup with?

Wind2341 votes

I had Armor Marks, %Health Seals, Magic Resist Glyphs and Attack Damage Quints. It's the standard set I use when I play tanky AD champs. I'd love to make more individualized rune pages, but they're expensive....^^;

I find Camille interesting but she seems to me to be a sub optimal Fiora, albeit one who's ult can lock in the target for the damages (So there is a boon there.)

Also Fiora definitely counters Camille, hard.

I feel Camille is the equivalent of a Pantheon in some respects. From stun initiates to cone abilities. But at the same time she feels like Irelia with her true damage on an aa reset.

But anyone with cc and a lot of poke may be able to keep her under tower. Champions like Kled will out trade you if you aren't careful. So far, playing against her I played Darius. Capitalizing on her gap closer with your E is a must, as it cancels the launch and stops her stun.

Anyone with a stun or a pull can stop Camille's e. Fiora also works in this sense, with her parry.

Trades should be quick bursts, not lengthy in the early game. Camille benefits from an ability that gives her sustain, like Darius. But unlike Darius, you can use the ability on minions and still get the sustain.

Camille has definitive counters, and it will take time for people to realize them. Now is the time to learn her while she is still new, and people have little experience fighting her.

Kled does pretty well against her. His ability to counter engage when she jumps in works in his favor.

Also his abilty to stick to her with joust, and his mini pull/slow.

It can be difficult to land his ult however.

I've been playing with Camille for two days now and I've gotta admit I think I'm gonna main her. I've watched and researched on Camille with her being played by famous youtubers such as "RedMercy" "Pants are Dragon" etc. and I've also researched Camille online in places such as probuild or mobafire. I've noticed a consistent build which revolves around Tri-Force first and Ravenous Hydra second, and defense after boots (specifically swiftness boots).

I've played with such build and honestly before Ravenous hydra I did not feel the damage I was expecting, I though I could shred tanks but with only tri-force I didn't do much. But recently I've played with a friend who recommended a titanic hydra build first and wow... I did loads of damage, and even out-duelled Darius the DARIUS, the one who beat me every time top lane. I would recommend at least getting a mana crystal for a sustain and ask lots for blue buff, if you're ahead item 3057 would be nice to have. For boots I recommend boots of Lucidity, Swiftness is fine but I like the CDR it gives. As for Ravenous hydra I haven't tested it but I'm gonna use it in the Jungle, most likely not but maybe, I think its better to buy item 3077 after getting boots and item 3715 , for now its untested so don't take my word for it. Also in terms of which is better titanic or ravenous, I like titanic as my passive scales with my health but the health regen from ravenous is nice in jg.

Note: Basically Titanic Hydra top is better for me but Ravenous is (probably) better Jungle

Finally I would try getting more health so deadman's and Black Cleaver are great. Final Item must definitely be item 3026 for obvious reasons.

Final Note: I'm still testing but I won't have much time as I'm studying currently but I'll do more after I'm done.
