Is Kalista really as unplayable as people claim?

I feel like she's a handful of bugfixes and QoL changes away from being viable.

Unfortunately a lot of her issues come from her passive. Because it would feel horrible, her dash is on-attack instead of on-hit. This means it can't be cancelled. If you could cancel an on-attack dash you could potentially dash without attacking. This is all fair enough.

But considering how much Riot has been messing around with Stealth/Camo and Vision Control (control wards literally deny vision of a brush even if there's a ward in it) and the general dominance of Vayne and Twitch right now, Kalista's Attacks should NOT be falling off on targets not in vision (i.e. if they move into brush mid-flight). If anything, it pushes her already weak laning phase more than her late seeing as the attack animation is far shorter the faster her attack speed is (and therefore, generally, how far into the game she is).

She should also be able to stack up Rend prior to the ability coming off cooldown (perhaps when it has 90/80/70/60/50% of it's cooldown remaining based off level).

I'm actually okay with Kalista's attack speed being tied to her oathsworn - prior to this change her counterplay was very limited and the very act of picking her over any given ADC lacked meaningful decision making. Nowadays Kalista synergizes well with the likes of Blitz, Ali and Taric who can fed for themselves. Meanwhile Kalista-Soraka may well be one of the weakest bot lanes in the game since focusing the Soraka because all the more beneficial. And why shouldn't a team-reliant Utility Marksman be easily punished for farming in a side lane instead of grouping?

No, she's just chained to her bond partner, and other ADCS have the same level of sucess(or more) without that.

Why don't they give her the Taric treatment and allow her to swap partners?

They don't want something like her rebonding with Galio, Rammus, Darius, Nasus, Garen etc without actually having to go through the game with that partnership.

Not that some of those can't be viable Supports, just that they usually aren't picked that way.

Not sure they still have that design philosophy seeing as Ivern's Q lets literally everyone jump onto whoever it hits.

I've seen more harm then good from that, I've had my own adc click on people forgetting it does that.

It puts you at your maximum Attack Range. It's not the end of the world if your ADC clicks on it.

(Trust me, I'm currently working on getting my Ivern Support to MR7).

Or make it so that she can periodically re-bind to a different champion (have the little pop-up that Kindred gets to mark her hunted). Kalista runs into the issue that it's easier to make use of her W with a ranged champion, but the likes of Sona/Nami/etc are easier to kill therefore denying Kalista the benefits of Oathsworn. I'd say she should be able to re-bind every time she puts a point into R.

Lane phase (1-5), early-mid game (6-11), mid-game (12-16), late game (16+). This way you can get full benefit from the passive in lane, then transition into the rest of the game as you see fit.

I agree, but Kalista was pretty ridiculous when Riot didn't have her on a leash.

I mean I personally can care less about Kalista's passive. Pretend it's a vayne passive for the hell of it. I much rather her Ultimate be she can SELECT an ally rather then someone she bonds with. If anything make her bond work with the nearest ally. Problem solved.

eh just fix the bug when it ignores the hop commands and we'll be peachy.
