Mana Starved

tl;dr : Mana Font (Chalice's UNIQUE Passive) needs a buff

More detailed context, Mana Font is ONLY useful if you have a Tear of the Goddess item for the Mana and that is when you start noticing Mana sustain from the Mana Font passive that Chalice/Grail/Chalice Bell have. And by notice I mean that is the only time when Mana Font actually gives more regen than Morellos, and barely giving more regen; of course Grail should give +100% base mana regen just like Morellos because the item is meant to be the mana regen item and Tear path is meant for Mana pool. I like the interaction of Tear and Chalice passives working together, but items should not have to RELY on another item heavily in order to be good, an item should be able to bought to function properly for the purpose you want that item for. In this scenario we buy Chalice for mana regen; and not buy Chalice PLUS all these other items and THEN get mana regen. It is fine buying Chalice into a Grail to get more regen since Grail is an upgraded Chalice. An example alternative would be add another UNIQUE Passive to Grail where you get something like % Mana restored based on spell damage dealt.

the reasons you stated for it being bad the way it is are nearly identical to why riot thinks its good.

all is working as intended. its not meant to be a cure-all mid-lane early game item. it is intended to be the item that provides you an endless pool of mana late game and the CDR you need to spam.

Riot just wanted less sustain early game and more sustain late game- not to nerf mana regen altogether

overall, mana regen hasnt been nerfed. itemization has changed. if you want early game mana regen, morellos provides more mana regen than it did last season, and it provides more than athenes most of the game. buy morellos if you cant be patient. sell it for athenes when full build.

regen has been nerfed, morellos just got buffed both directly and indirectly - and you have to be like level 10 before morellos gives the same regen as before

honestly tho. better yet. pick champs that arnt spam dependent, then learn how to manage mana.

So disregard every single champion that is "spam dependant" then? how is that good / efficient. "oh yay all these developed champs that are more continual activation based / sustain just gonna have to go away like Urgot an entire season until we change the system completely yet AGAIN." Yeah. OK >.>

there are very few champs that are "spam dependent" that have high mana costs with no mana regen mechanisms built into the champ. riot is monitoring mana very closely and will increase the individual champs base mana regen if they agree that they need more. there is no reason to change an item for a couple champs .

they already buffed mana font regen pretty hard last patch (by 50%)

i seriously doubt they will buff it more, as nobody needs that much regen late game, and athenes isnt intended for early game.

by simply upping a champs base mana regen they can make more appropriate early game items more effective at regenerating mana for that champ

Grail gives like 1 more mana than morellos- you know that super duper insane amount of fking mana regen you get from grail at level 18 --- chalice/grail gives more regen than morellos only if you have a tear (RoA still give significant mana pool as well at like 700 or something)

Play DotA for about, say... 10 games or so. When you come back, you'll be better at managing mana. Almost every skill in that game eats up at least a quarter of your pool, and it takes really solid management to not run out.

Okay so let's make League like Dota where League is not only newer than Dota but has like 20 times the population--- so let's turn the superor MOBA into the shtter moba

Dota is not better than League League is not better than Dota

they are good for their own reasons, I watch Dota competitively and play League, that's just how it is. I'm not a Dota Diehard, there is a different playstyle between the two games that dictates that skills cost a LOT of your mana, and must be managed effectively.

So you saying champions that really need the mana regen should never get played despite being strong in the meta game like Anivia's Glacial Storm
