You should have at least 2 pocket supports for when you're autofilled

Big Lincoln··61 votes·3,237 views

2 back to back games this morning where my team or the enemy team's autofilled player forced their team to let them jungle. I expect boards posters to be better than that, but a good chunk still complain about autofill so I'm gonna tell you the obvious; you NEED to know at least 2 pocket supports and IMO if you can't play support you shouldn't play ranked, because you're going to get autofilled.

Janna Lulu Karma Nami Alistar Braum Nautilus Taric are all low-entry champions who are simple and effective (and GOOD) without needing to play them extensively to do well. Pick 1 enchanter and 1 tank to cover your bases, and if you want to be aggressive Brand Zyra Leona are on the menu. if you happen to like support a lot and want to play it more then you can move on to Thresh Bard, who are harder to play but far more flexible in what they can do.

playing support is really not that bad, there's no reason for players to troll their team because they have to play it one game out of 10

Low-entry... Alistar... Taric... I wouldn't trust an autofilled support with those two. They're incredibly difficult to play to a degree where they're actually helpful. Give them someone like Braum, Naut, or Leona, sure, but not those two mechanical nightmares.

Eedat3 votes

They aren't "mechanical nightmares". They don't really require mechanics. What they do require is better decision making than safer picks like Janna Lulu

Paquay2 votes

Although Lulu is a highly popular pick right now, she's now Janna or Sona levels of easy. There is decision making that is involved with all of her skills other than Q, which depending on where Pix is, can be a pretty tricky skillshot.

You need to decide the value of using your W and E on allies or enemies (typically W on enemies and E on allies). You also need to decide if it is worth to use R to initiate and get a good group knock up in to start a team fight, or if you should hold it to potentially save an ally.

Also, if you're really good you can use your E on minions to get good range on your Q and slow/kill a fleeing enemy. But I wouldn't expect an autofill player to start doing craziness like that.

With Taric I can agree. But Riot removed any skill requirement on Alis Combo.

Ralanr3 votes

Not to mention Ali is pretty much hard countered by people like Morgana. It's too easy to counterpick him.

Lauchmelder1 votes

But who in low elo wants to play Morgana instead of another, more flashy, support?

Ralanr6 votes

Idk, people who see me lock in Alistar apparently.

Erm…Me? Or is this an /s moment?

CannonLordFreed2 votes

When I first started playing Ali I didn't even know he had combos other than flash Q W (This was back when his combo was super hard to do). I got flamed all the time for it. If someone doesn't know about it, which is perfectly reasonable, they have no hope of being able to pull it off.

Solitair2 votes

the combo isn't the only outlet of skill on an alistar, and it is still quite possible to mess it up, as you basically have to q it up in flight which only really gives you a few more milliseconds of time to input for a properly executed combo. If you legitimately try to q it up before your headbutt animation begins, you will just smash the ground like an idiot. The dude also has punishing cd's, even on max CDR. You've got to be extra mindful about using your abilities because landing a headbutt/pulverize can actually lose you a fight if what you actually needed to do was bodyblock properly or peel vigilantly.

I don't find Taric to be particularly difficult, I would probably recommend him to new players or autofills

TotalJerk1 votes

Taric is completely useless in lane when his E is on cooldown, and the cooldown on it is fucking high. This no longer applies, but before you could ping spells his ult was also extremely difficult to use without voice chat.

As a support main alistar is not entry level at all, maybe pre ult nerf but now he plays as a very passive tank into most lanes as his engage is dangerous and his cooldowns are horrendous.

TaricIS it a joke ?

sta supra1 votes

honestly i wouldnt trust them on braum ether. MAYBE Naut but i played against a support this morning who went full ap naut so its kinda hard to say i can trust an auto fill on him.

Easy. Sion, and Sion

That's great sweetie but I like being able to actually fight back in bot lane.

You don't need to fight at all when you're a late game hyper-scaling champion and you have the best tank peeler in the game

Holy fuck you think Taric is a good auto-fill support? nonononononono

fuck that Taric is so fucking useless if

A) He doesn't know how to use the ult

B) He doesn't build properly (which is REALLY easy to mess up)

C) He doesn't land the stun

D) He doesn't know when to go in or back off.

Taric is basically a slower and less damage-oriented version of Leona

Asking some non-main to play him and know when to go ham and stack those wham-wham CDR wham-wham autos is honestly too much.

Okay this post is getting too long. Taric for non-support mains. BAD IDEA

MorgManBasher7 votes

People new to support should not be playing Alistar or taric. Both are all about surviving laning phase and waiting to make plays outside of laning... I would never want an auto fill support playing those.

Autofilled? Is that a new pokémon?

I have a dream where one day J4 will be seen as the support he is. Simple to use effectively, great when you know his limits, racks up assists faster than Janna, has cc that even Olaf can't escape, and he can wombo like crazy.

Big Lincoln4 votes

i used to play j4 support but my ADCs were never on board with it

works great with miss fortune though

You should be able to play at least one champ proficiently in every lane. This is the creed I learned when I joined back in season 4 and all these spoiled brats with their role selection entitlements make me sick. GET OFF MY LAWN!

paying 5$ for a rune page is annoying asf tho I personally am not willing to spend my ip or shell out 10 bucks just to have two pocket supports

IGotScuttleCrabs2 votes

Ap rune page works on several supports.

Ravenhale6 votes

I scratch my head over people that think wasting 6300 IP on a rune page is a waste of time. It's like they are not serious about playing ranked.

3TWarrior3 votes

on a scale, it goes like this: new rune page or...unbalanced champion that comes out in like 2 months that can be used while I have a generalist rune page

one is clearly heavier than the other, especially when you have to buy even more runes for that new rune page

Sp33d Zer03 votes

I mean, you really only NEED like 5 rune pages. ADC (which duos as a jungler page) AP (which duos as a support/ap jungler) Tank (which duos as a support) AD caster (which can duo for a bruiser)

Scratch that, you can get through most stuff with 4 pages.

KoggyStyle1 votes

im sitting on 8 pages, i want more XD.... but 11 champs to go +2 new ones.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

Oh I'm the same way. Having specialized pages is great, I'm just saying that for new people you only NEED 4 pages for your average game.

Warlord Scrap1 votes

I do think the rune page price is a pit much. Could definately be a bit cheaper. I currently have 11 and need 2 more for champs im just starting to learn. But i really wish rune pages were free.

AmazoX2 votes

Everyone will main support when Rakan is released.

I just play Leona

We are going to win or lose this lane/game in the first 3 minutes. Prepare yourself.

Why does this feel like an insult?

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Outside of the melee supps they all have extremely low skill FLOORS since they usually have shields/heals to make up for mistakes and as long as you buy a Sightstone (and use it) and not int you will not be seen as a hindrance. Yes you CAN make LC$BIGPLAY$ on someone like Janna, but 95% of the time that isn't necessary and you snapcasting Q or R to peel is sufficient.

why you copy pasting my champion pool ;-; honestly though you cant just list the main supports a say they are all easy support is a diverse role and each champ can be very different from each other

for example while janna and lulu both have strong shields they DO NOT play anything like each other

this is true for most supports
