Did Yorick rework miss the mark? (kit gameplay and its theme)

Leaving aside his visual rework, and going into his gameplay:

From watching videos of him, 99% of the time players can just walk away from his Ghouls. They only seem to be of use when he manages to land Dark Procession, or when someone immobilizes your target.

What I see is Yorick running around bashing people with his shovel. That's his gameplay. It almost looks like a Nasus because he's that tanky aswell. It's not a matter of being too strong, or being too weak - it's a matter of his theme not playing out.

So I say... what the hell? Are you people happy with that?

Is that what you have to deliver to us in the necromancy theme?

What are you supposed to do in Baron/drake fights? Or in the jungle? I'm not saying he's useless in those situations, I'm saying you won't be playing a necromancer most of the time.

Or rather, his necromancy is way too situational.

They have a good base for skills, they just need to buff the skills some to make them feel better. Passive could benefit from making graves every 10/8/6 seconds and be affected by CDR, this way he can almost always get some up during or before a teamfight in the jungle or pits. Q healing really needs to have some kind of scaling, either with max health or AD in some way. W could get a Poppy style anti dash effect for 1-4 seconds to create an interesting and denying skill to many of the champions in the game. E looks like it needs some either scaling on the movespeed bonus or some way of making the ghouls that land attacks increase the slow even more, that way landing it with ghouls up is better. R seems good but does not appear to have nearly enough pushing strength on it's own, it gets focused by the tower too quickly and taken down too fast.

Long story short, the skills are fair right now, but they all lack scaling stats which will end up keeping him down more than anything else. His old kit scaled extremely well actually, movespeed boost on Q was fast, slow on W was sufficient to get in range for an auto unless the enemy dashed away, E heal is what made him be able to survive focus for more than 4 seconds, of course his Ult let him duel many champs and gave him a non selfish Ult for the team.

If they want to see Yorick succeed as a rework they will need to buff him in a manner that feels consistent with his lore. From what I have read on the PBE boards his AI for ghouls and Maiden will be better for coming from the jungle with his walkers, but less useful if you are in lane with them and want them to go to another lane.

The issue is they do not want is to hear a huge outcry about his presence in lane from having tons of ghouls dropping on the enemy constantly. They are concerned with making him too strong in general, maybe so intimidated by it that they are trying to check the issues before it goes live. I feel that is not really the way to handle this champion, but I hope it goes live a little less strong so I can just keep playing him without seeing him get banned or picked by everyone and their brother. I main Yorick, and will likely continue to do so, even if he is not ridiculously powerful.

"Passive could benefit from making graves every 10/8/6 seconds and be affected by CDR".

Yes that's what I mean for example, although I was thinking of something else overpowered.

Anyways, maybe killing a Ghoul could cost Yorick 1-3% of his max HP, so whenever people went in to take out a Ghoul he'd have to go in aswell for a trade, somehow.

while i havent played him yet as i dont have a pbe account. I think they did a fair job he looks alot bbetter than b4. I dont mean just visualy either, i feel like i would play this guy. That being said they may have fell a tad short on matching him to his concept, but i stand by that it is much better than before. Hell for that matter it didnt get much worse than old yorick

Definitly better than old Yorick, but still feels like :p not enought necromancy

I'd rather have him rely on hitting cc to do massive damage, and you also neglected how unique his ult is.

His necromancy relies on you kill enemies. That's the only restriction to spawning minions. They put the 3 grave limit to spawning so the ghouls didn't feel like a river of free gold and could build up to be an army. The main limit is killing people and the only thing Yorick should be doing is spreading death to summon ghouls. Otherwise, it's his ghouls.

Necromancy being limited by something being dead is a given.

I didn't say the 4 minion limit was a problem.

And killing a champion is too much of a condition to spawn a weak minion that'll help with below average damage.

So everyone is at baron in a back and forth, Yorick has to walk up to a lane to recruit some Ghouls then walk back. Doesn't sound good. He'll be fighting without any ghouls.

How will he be fighting? With Siphoning Strikes and a summoned Tibbers?

Or, he joins the fight with 4 ghouls. But fights have million different results, it's arguable that in most cases he'll lose his ghouls right at the start to ranged autos. Then he has his Q only, an amazingly fun new ability
