If Rhaast is possessed version of Kayn, then who was Aatrox's wielder?

Rito Staff·7/10/2017, 3:05:50 PM·40 votes·13,267 views

Assuming Aatrox is the sword, maybe the humanoid we see was the previous wielder. Yes, now changed to a demonic red hued figure.

We know that the darkin were imprisoned within weapons and that Aatrox is the only one who has escaped confinement.

"A Rioter involved with the story (...) only Aatrox among those imprisoned have escaped confinement.".

Which doesn't mean that Aatrox the darkin has escaped the weapon, but rather that he found a host to infest. Someone that got hold of the darkin blade.

Darkins are also very old, amongst the oldest beings, so they wouldn't have humanoid forms by nature. So "Aatrox being the only darkin that has escaped confinement" doesn't mean that the darkin is now free of the weapon, it might just mean the darkin weapon found a host. Just like Rhaast is imprisoned within the Scythe, up until the darkin manages to overpower Kayn, or someone else. If the darkin got free of the weapon they wouldn't look like humans, and maybe they can't ever revert whatever magic put them there, they only figured a way of going around the confinement, or rather, whoever put them in there forgot about that detail, or didn't think it would happen.

Also, we know that not anyone can "take" the weapon, it killed the Noxian who tried to wield it. So it would make sense that whoever took hold of Aatrox the weapon was someone powerful enought to do it. (So it begs the question, who was Aatrox wielder)

We know that the weapon can be by itself. Kayn uses the scythe for example, meanwhile Rhaast -- possessed Kayn -- is very similar to Aatrox (duuh). So the Aatrox that we know -- not the sword, the guy -- IS someone possessed by the darkin sword, the guy we see is the previous wielder... if there is anything left of him.

It might not be important to know, it might've been some random dude, or not, who knows (it's always interesting). But Aatrox as we know him has been around for a long time, so as every other darkin, but not every darkin has infested a host yet. Aatrox has.

Which brings me to the next point, does being possessed by the darkin weapon grant immortality?

Can the possession, miraculously, be reverted? And if so, would the wielder die or continue as he 'paused' when first possessed? http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Darkin

And now I look at Jax, someone who has been at the protectorate vs magelord war. Maybe that's why Jax uses a lamppost (the Fields of Justice is no more) --- His robes were heavy, but the sun’s warmth didn’t reach the mottled and oddly hued skin beneath. No part of his flesh was visible, which was probably just as well. He wasn’t even sure what his skin looked like anymore. --- Maybe he's someone that had a darkin weapon, and for some reason doesn't anymore. His robes might be hiding that, his defigured half-transformation.

The darkin weapon possession might not be a demonic horror movie type of stuff, but more in the lines of the "One Ring" where the promise of power is what gets you. There's a very similar scene in Kayn lore to that of the Lord of The Rings

https://giphy.com/gifs/zfctIcJgiDlHq/html5

"Brother, stop!” the acolyte cried, flicking blood from his katana. “What are you doing? You saw what it can do! It must be destroyed!" Kayn faced him. “No. It is mine."

Personally I like to believe that Jax and Aatrox stories date back to the protectorate and magelord war, maybe the magelord (Jax) had gotten a massive super weapon (the darkin) and they were winning because of it, Aatrox being the fella he is, decided to go toe to toe against this other darkin. Jax (supposing) either got the battle of his life and got his ass handed to him, seeing the bloodshed decided to walk away, or he himself ditched the weapon.

And so Aatrox's wielder might've been some mighty protectorate warrior that found the weapon at that time and quickly fused with it. We could even have him some day as a champion (I'm talking about the guy who took for himself the Aatrox blade).

If Kayn is worthy of a champion on his own... Would be cool if Aatrox wielder founded Noxus, and hence its cursed violent culture.

I wonder if the item 3072 could be the darkin blade Aatrox without a host

Coincidences of the blood theme aside -- look closely on the item icon (item 3072) you can see that the Bloodthirster is serrated on the sides kinda like the Aatrox blade. Aatrox and the item Bloodthirster are years apart I think - and the latter could use an icon update (:

And being THE main lifesteal item that it is, kinda relates to the blood thirst Aatrox give man in battles.

Jax is more probably Purple due to Void contamination/corruption than related to anything close to Darkins.

I personally think that Jax is disfigured because he came from Icathia, which was the place in or round Shurima that got corrupted by the Void. Besides that, cool theory.

Simplest reasoning: Aatrox's user is a person lost to time. Someone who has existed for so long that their original name, face and everything about them has been forgotten.

It's possible we might one day get an ancient warrior who recognizes Aatrox however.

There's a theory that Aatrox host is of Kayle's and Morgana's race because of his wings.

It would be pretty awesome if aatrox is really just the possessed ruined king.

Well, when we look at Rhaast, there are some clues. The Darkin, upon overcoming it's wielder, appears to keep elements of the hosts appearance and their abilities. It seems Rhaast didn't know how to shadow-walk before he met Kayn, "Oooo, I do like this trick." Suggesting that he is able to shadow-walk now because Kayn could. This in turn suggests that at least one of Aatrox's abilities was inhereted from his host. His Q I think is the most likely candidate, given how his other abilities revolve around the sword. If his host had the ability to fly, but was humanoid, this tells me that Aatrox's wielder was either Vastayan, or whatever Kayle and Morgana are going to be when they are eventually updated.

The Human's name was Gerald.

Gerald was kind of a dick.

I agree with most of your post, but I think that possessing a host is how Darkin escape the weapons they are imprisoned in. It's not that they ARE the weapons, it's that the weapons are entrapping their souls, and that they infact, once did exist free of the weapons in bodily form. In possessing the body, they escape the blade and twist the body to (maybe) match what they were before and (definitely) mold it to their needs and evict the soul of the previous owner. At that point, the blade becomes a normal magical weapon.

Honestly it doesn't matter. whoever he was once upon a time, he's long dead. The darkin corruption ends in the death of the host as the darkin totally supplants them.

As for bloodthirster, probably every darkin is a different weapon. A sword, a scythe, and maybe a bow so far

Also, Noxus is built on the ruins of Mordekaiser's fortress from the past.

Beas7ie7/11/2017, 11:55:23 AM3 votes

I'm pretty sure Jax isn't related to the darkins.

As for the "wielder" of Aatrox. It has been confirmed by Rito that he was just a warrior or someone who for one reason or another wielded the Darkin weapon Aatrox and long "lost" the struggle and given in to the sword. This was like eons ago so the name and backstory of that individual is most likely lost to time.

And no, sorry Bloodthirster isn't a Darkin weapon. There are lots of weapons with serrated edges(I collect weapons in RL and actually own a couple) so that's not really unique. Besides BT is a fairly normal looking sword whereas Aatrox is very unique weapon that can bend and extend unlike any other sword. Also it's not like there is only one weapon that can "thirst for blood".

Ravore7/10/2017, 11:51:44 PM2 votes

The chances that jax has anything to do with darkin is extremely small and the bloodthirster being related to aatrox is also extremely small aswell since i don't really think they mention in game items in the lore and also i doubt they'd make aatrox's weapon into a item all can use.

Have you seen Death's Dance's icon, by any chance? The blade has an eye.

Munchitor7/30/2019, 10:51:18 PM1 votes

In the new Pantheon short story it was said that Atreus who then proceeds to becoming Pantheon was the wielder of Aatrox but Aatrox left him to die after original Pantheon died. Then Atreus takes shape of Pantheon

Kalarepa7/10/2017, 7:56:08 PM1 votes

Tbh, it's probably some random guy, who found a sword and got corrupted by it.

AlienMV7/11/2017, 8:49:02 AM1 votes

A nice read. Just wanted to respond to your Bloodthirster theory. I remember someone pointed out that if you look closely, Death's Dance has an eye in it similar to Rhaast item 3812

Aatrox predates the protectorates and magelord battle. Mordekaiser created the Immortal Bastion which the city of Noxus Prime was built around

Aatrox's and Varus' lore will need updates and Varus will be a small VU to give his bow, his W and R particles more of a reddish than purplish hue. (unless ill discuss the unless later)

Ok who thought the new champ was a lizard from the teaser?

So its confirmed that Darkins are not actually humanoid organisms, but sentient weapons that take over and corrupt organisms for their own purposes?

For Aatrox that could be taking over different humans across different time periods to enjoy the carnage of war "it matters only that you fight" It would seem that he takes advantage of a losing factions desperation to get the most out of each battle. That would explain why Aatrox is seen throughout history Or perhaps the host last until slain in battle.

We also kno that the Darkin seek out strong beings to take over

What does all this mean for the monster like creature in Vaynes lore. Perhaps a Darkin that influences one instead of many? Or perhaps it is grooming Vayne to be the next host?

What about Varus' bow is it a failed or incomplete Darkin?

Could there be a Darkin that takes over a strong animal beast organism?

Trying to figure out how much of an assassin a person could realistically be with a huge, slow, obvious weapon such as a scythe, I get that it's cool thematically but it seems like such a fan made character: Shadow Assassin with a scythe that can transform into a Darkin. It seems he can do his job well enough. Enough of that.

Anyways Rhaast must be the weakest of all Darkin seeing as it can't maintain control of the organism its trying to take over. It would be an interested and depressing fact at least for the people who have to face this Darkin and see how strong it is and then realize its the weakest of the 5.

If it turns out that Varus' bow IS a Darkin that would be further interesting because it shows different stages or different relationships between Darkin and the organisms they corrupt: Full control/ corruption in Aatrox's case, semi corruption less control in Varus' case (due to the fact that their goals must align seeing as Varus accepted the corruption) and temporary control/corruption in Kayn's case.

That also means that we had 2 Darkins in the game all along, and now we have 3 for all those people wondering when the next Darkin would come.

But we can now see a trend: Aatrox: War Rhaast: Death Varus: Pestilence/ vengance (according to LoL wiki, who cares Pestilence fits much better, and if it really were vengeance then that would getting into Kalista's theme almost: VARUS wants vengeance which is different from the weapon which uses infection and corruption to help Varus achieve his goals.

What's left is Conquest Famine

My questions are So possible in game event if more than 1 Darkin is in the game now?

Were they planned as separate champs at 1st?

FlameHalbrdOkido7/11/2017, 9:11:22 AM1 votes

Perhaps Varus' bow got infected by the void and that kinda rendered it weaker or inert slowing it's corruption of Varus and silencing it. But I find it interesting how Red, black, and purple are in Varu's ability and design color schemes.

Karakot7/11/2017, 3:37:07 PM1 votes

we can't assume jax was a darkin, he was an icathian and without any other knowledge of them the purple hue might be their Normal skin tone.

I also heard we were getting more darkin lore by the end of the year sone where but I can't seem to find the source...

GGLineaR7/13/2017, 11:13:21 AM1 votes

I'm wondering a couple things,

1.) How is Trynd related to Kayn and Rhaast, if at all. 2.) Why does Rhaast kill everything, while Aatrox makes other people kill like crazy. 3.) Is Rhaast or Kayn canon? Like, which one actually wins, or is it a constant tug of war that is only ever won in game?

As edgy as they are, I do find the Darkins to be interesting.

Kloqdq7/18/2017, 6:04:30 PM1 votes

When you realize we have literal gods about to fight each other in the Darkin, the Void, the Targon aspects and even Sass Dragon and then you remember we have people like Nunu A freaking kid with a yeti.....

God I love league :')

There were a lot of suspicions of some guy from the league or protectorate being Jax. I forgot his name, Perhaps he is now Aatrox, and that is why he suddenly vanished.
