Chat is overrated, communication doesn't depend on it.
I remember playing Braum once, I think jungle, don't really remember, but it was going pretty bad - this had nothing to do with my build though, plain ol' feeding - and there was flaming back and foward and I wasn't really feeling like answering, excusing or justifying myself so I just muted everyone and got really focused. I don't remember if we won but I remember playing really well with the 2 guys that were flaming me, like really synergetic, once I turned the chat on they were saying the Braum was alright but kept flaming my friend.
I think chat communication is overrated. My moms friends, she's a girl, worked at a place where she had to talk to lots of homeless, or foregneirs who didn't even speak portuguese and she didn't even speak English either, but she said she worked it out. She said the basis for communication is understandment, and understandment is silent, but watchful and attent.
You lose your focus on the actual game with chat.
Any sassy remarks, any hateful speech, any comments is always ignorance on the commenters behalf. Ignorance doesn't mean stupidity as an offense, but rather a lack of knowing better, lack of understandment. You don't know what happened on somebody else's lane, you don't know what they're going through in their lives and how that affects their gameplay.
Has no one ever been at a champ select where everyone is talking their ass off, about how "I'll do this, how I'll do that, careful with x champion level 5 power spike", and they go on and on about how they'll proceed to play the game and what they'll do, so then in the game everyone is just flaming and nothing is going how they planned.
And those other games where everyone is just silent but sort of "completing each others sentences" in a synergetic teamplay as never seen before.
Properly "reading" the match at hand, with attention and assessing it rightfully is key for correct action.
I legit think that Riot could pull out a graph showing the more a team uses chat the higher their chances of losing.
