I really hope either some items change, or Morgana's Rework is masterful.....

Okay. In Season 7, I literally had a 100% Morgana win rate until the very last week of the season, in some 69 games on her (I'm more of a multi champ main, so where I succeeded with her, I failed on some other champs. Sue me)

This season...... she seems unimpactful, unless...... some adc rolls up and gives her free Q hits.

..... And..... that's pretty much where it ends. If Morgana's not fed, she ends up being dead weight. Every. Friggin. Game. You can land over 120 CC a game, and still lose.... because her kit is underwhelming.

But WHY is it underwhelming?

2-3 Second Q aside:

Second Wind Rune: Pretty much negates early game W damage done to champs who are not adcs. Most champions have high enough base defenses, they can wade right through it.

Legend: Tenacity rune. Anyone who carries it is guaranteed to cut her CC by more than half if they have item 3111 . 1.5 Second Root is nothing when your kit requires them to be planted longer. It also dramatically increases her reliance on item 3157 as a mandatory item.... which is hard to get as a Support. You're almost never going to finish her R without it now, since she simply doesn't have the sustain/spell vamp she used to.

item 3053 The fact a champion can take Conquerer, and get this item, plus Legend Tenacity, plus item 3111 basically creates a no win situation for Morgana. Together they ensure that nothing in her kit can even be on the same field as what we call "Juggernauts." Together, they destroy her Q, Make her R a death sentence, and her W actually HEALS them (unless an adc hyper fed her)

I know some of you hate Morgana and think she's unfair. That's okay, and I understand why (because you aren't playing champs that actually fall under the umbrella of what I'm talking about and in fact do get killed by her).

But I'm not a fan of a "no winning solutions" exchange. There should always be some way to counter a team building to counter you. Morgana doesn't seem to have that.

Ever since item 3078 item 3053 became a top norm, it always seems that any game that has a top juggernaut...... and a Morgana support..... is almost assured to lose, simply because she can't stop them. No matter what build she uses.

I know she and Kayle have a rework coming, and probably sooner than later. I'm holding out hope for that.

But I'm also kind of wishing at least Steraks didn't double whammy vs her (massive shield she can't outdamage, plus extra tenacity).

I'm sorry but I have to disagree.

While the current meta favors tanky supports, Morgana is more than impactful exactly because the strenght of tanky dudes is mostly bound to their CCs, something that a good Morgana can negate completely, fed or not.

Locking down then an enemy is an enormous advantage as it either negates an engage or gives your team a free target to wipe out.

You really have no clue. Black shield has a substantial cooldown and can be erased in VERY short order, and is completely ineffective versus AD.

And her CC does NOT lock down anymore. Tenacity is too prevalent. You can land 30 Q's or more a game..... and still lose because Tenacity cuts them in half.

And, Thresh doesn't get locked down or countered by Morg. Even if she spell shields a Thresh Q, he can still pull himself to her/her black shield target, even if he can't pull them. All Thresh has to do is Q, and use Q to go to his target, E, and wham. Black shield's gone, he can burn his R, Shield pull his ADC.

Such an effective tool there.

Morgana also doesn't viably counter:

Shen Taric Soraka Zyra Velkoz Xerath Pyke Leona Karma LeeSin Ezreal Alistar Brand .

The one champ she viably counters; Blitzcrank

To everyone else,

-She's slower than everyone else. -Her E can be baited out and the person she doesn't E can be killed first. -Her R slow is escapable. -Her W damage is so trivial people don't even avoid it. Her Q can only hit one target.

Oh. Did I mention she's the slowest champ in the game?

How many priority targets build tenacity?

The issue with Morgana is that you can't just fire and forget. you have to choose when it's the right time to do so and the same works with her shield. Avoiding even a single CC is enough or she wouldn't be picked against ppl like Alistar.

Her Black Shield CD is less than Windwall so I don't see an issue with that.

only reason to pick morgana anymore is to counter the CC creep since everyone and their mother has some CC

Illabethe1 votes

And she doesn't even really do that, because E is really easy to chew through, and has a pretty substantial cooldown.

you need to funnel a lot of AP to make the shield any good but supports dont get that kinda cash T_T

I can relate to this. Had a 60 or so % winrate last season, now she's my worst champ at 14% in 7 games (not a lot of games but I'm getting discouraged). From my respective Rakan is just a better although risker version of her, and that's why I have more than 100 games on him.

This isn't common to Morg alone. It's a similar case for Karma as well. If you fall behind you're useless, you need to be ahead to be impactful. I would argue that Morg early game makes up for that. Early W is more for pushing waves than damaging an opponent.

As for the tenacity stack, it's true. Some one could just play Mundo with all tenacity reducers and end up with ~80% tenacity (I've had a hella lot of fun doing that) but that being said should he be your main focus? Your q still has full duration on most other Champs. I'm not saying its a good situation, but it is what it is.

Illabethe1 votes

I have never fallen behind on Karma in Season 8. I have been at the mercy of 1v5ing a team a time or two, but generally, unlike Morgana, She can actually clear waves, do a ton of spontaneous damage, and can even shorten her own cooldowns..... which allows a good Karma player a LOT more versatility.

Also, Season 9 Celerity + Nimbus Cloak made Karma insanely powerful. The problem is, not enough people used it. She literally can do what Viktor does now in as far as mobility and damage...... just ..... no one did it completely, so her win rate suffered for it.

Inasfar as Tenacity vs CC shots:

We're not talking 1v1's. We're talking Mid/Late game where you don't really have control over who you target near as much as you'd like to. Even if you really want to hit an adc, mage, etc..... the meat wall doesn't EVER allow it. They will walk right into the path of it, take the cc, and negate it, and it's not even hard..... because they generally aren't 1 tank per team. They are 2-3 tanks per team. And they're big enough to do it. Furthermore, most tanks have FAR more mobility than Morgana, stronger CC, and do enough % damage in magic to completely annihilate her E, and chase her.

You don't get the choice not to hit them. Either you have to hit them to try to save yourself, or you have to hit someone else, and have them kill you.

She's stuck being both a support but also still a solo laner and suffers for it greatly. Personally I think she makes a lot more sense as a solo laner but support players outnumber solo lane players of her (and have for a long time now) so if anything Riot is likely to push her towards support with the update.

She's capable of stomping noobs easily but also her skill ceiling is actually very high because of the potential power of her E and R. Riot is deathly afraid of her W's damage because it does so much to awful players who just stand in it and it clears waves well vs those same awful players who don't know how to move their minions out of it. Yet vs some players her W is nearly useless.

Essentially she has too much counterplay but much of how you counterplay vs her is specific to her (and the match up) so her power varies a lot game to game. She's very meta dependent as a support and match up dependent everywhere else. Too much of her success is determined by the enemy team, not the Morgana player. She's too all over the place in potential (and that's even more true now that they made her sort of able to jungle) but rarely meets that potential as a result.

And yeah, she really doesn't like fighters/bruisers. Her cds are too long and her entire kit happens too slowly to deal with them. Plus her aa range is garbage, making laning vs anyone with decent mobility even more of a nightmare. But she has those weaknesses because without them her good match ups are ridiculously brutal for the opponent to deal with.

She really needs her power shifted around in her kit a bit, but the places she could most use to lose some power are iconic aspects of what makes her a good support so Riot doesn't want to reduce them (Q root duration and base damage particularly). Hence why I think she shouldn't be balanced as a support anymore as it simply isn't healthy for her overall kit. But that will piss off too much of her playerbase and Riot is afraid of that kind of thing (for good reason).

tl;dr - She was initially designed for solo lane play but slowly drifted to support and Riot did nothing to stop it for so long that she's kind of stuck there despite it clashing with much of her overall kit.

You know, item 3151 will just make you deal a lot of max HP damage with your W ans give enough ap for your Q to hit like a truck. Besides, it IS good when they are ahead, they are just doing item 3151 a favor of dealing more max HP damyge for having more max HP than you due to being higher level than you. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Doesn't really work at all versus Steraks/Resist builders. It does increase damage versus some builds, but when we're talking 4000 HP builds, most of a Liandry's is negated. Her W literally goes from doing no damage at all, to maybe doing 1% HP damage after the Liandra's after considering Magic resist.

The best item is actually item 3135 , but even then you still have to contend with 60% of their Magic resist, and if you have both item 3151 item 3135 on a SUPPORT...... good luck also having item 3157 and item 3116 in any reasonable fashion.

And even then, you still have to deal with item 3194 .

I feel ashamed you think I actually don't know how items work.

  1. Crystal Scepter?
  2. Adaptive helmet is like MR version of item 3047, if AA's can still do damage through that then so can Morgana or any other AP caster through item 3194.
Illabethe1 votes

you really have no idea how Adaptive Helm works. I have literally had a Xerath hit every single shot of his ult on me when playing Ornn , and he couldn't kill me because the subsequent hits were outstripped by my health regen from Second wind. It is not anything like Tabis at all lol.

Also, AD damage is CHUNK damage from substantially large hits of empowered auto attacks/skills. It generally both completely negates your armor (meaning Tabi Boots' armor is worthless), and the pre-negation damage is much higher.

Morgana's W's damage is 1) Weak vs High HP champs. If Q/R can't get them low, it literally does nothing. It only has noticeable damage when its targets are low HP.

In other words, Adaptive Helm is Antithesis to her W, because it mitigates damage at high HP with resist, AND any subsequent damage gets reduced even further.

And the fact you question Rylai's when you try to sell Liandry's makes me REALLY suspicious you don't know what you're talking about. It raises Liandry's damage to 2.5% from 1.5%. Morgana's ONLY on board slow is R.....

Im all for making morg really useful , make her kit have more utility or more dmg. But im really not fond of that root.... If she can be really viable , without having someone cc'd for the rest of the game , awesome , get it right rito. Morg is fun to play (sometimes) , and i can definitely see her being a viable champ.

Illabethe1 votes

You really didn't read the post. Her CC can almost be entirely negated every single game that has a juggernaut. Tenacity reduces that root to 1-1.5 seconds. The recovery time off that is not much at all.

HA I am Shaco HA1 votes

lol Morgana's not getting a rework, it's just a visual update. feels bad.

Illabethe1 votes

She needs a gameplay update. DOT skills like hers literally don't fit in the current rune/itemization schemes. They've be better off taking her half second damage rotations on W, and merging them into 1 second ticks, so each hit does double the damage, but less frequent ticks. Doing so would reduce the impact of Second Wind, and make Adaptive Helm less consolidating.

Morgana Ultima1 votes

Morgana is actually dog shit. 100% unplayable garbage except as a counter pick. I say this as a person who has probably played more Morgana games since season 1 than anyone else alive.

I primarily play her mid and she is literally impossible to carry with. It doesn't matter how far you are ahead. Other characters simply scale better. A 10000 gold Morgana still is less damage than a 5000 gold draven. It is just a fact.

Her CC used to be game changing. Now every character in the game has ridiculous levels of CC. In fact, her CC is completely unreliable given the amount of dashes in the game. If you get hit by a Morgana Q as a champion like Lucian or Ezrael you might as well just alt f4 and uninstall the game because just wow.

Black shield is a decent ability against certain match ups. The champion honestly needs:

  • A faster traveling Q with a reduced snare duration. It's currently one of the hardest to land skill shots in the game.

  • A completely different W. Doing damage over 5 seconds is terrible. She used to be one of the best midlane pushers in the game. Now she is one of the weakest.

  • Her R needs either more damage, more range, or to be completely reworked. It is too easy to avoid.

She needs a lot of work.

Morgana isnt getting a "rework" only a visual update. and i also mained heer in season 7 when my regular main of Nidalee was running a sub 44% wiunrate.

i do think they REALLY need to revert her passive back, and undo the completely stupid mana cost increase on her E. which... we DON'T max first. there are so few AP threats in this game especially in laneng phase, AS A SUPPORT and like all shield it scales with AP.

and we dont use it to "absorb magic damage".. we use it to stop CC, unless the person with CC has a way to break the shield with another spell right before the CC hits.. there is no reason to even level it up at all.

at the very least if they were tried of morg "maxing it first" they could have INCREMENTALLY increased the cost. and not raise it by thirty mana at lvl 1.
