What Makes Yasuo/Riven Mains So Toxic?

BananaJannana··6 votes·9,200 views

It's a common rumor that Riven and Yasuo mains are most likely toxic flamers. I've seen it so many times that I believe its true. Most (though not all) of the yasuo and riven mains I've encountered have been toxic.

But what makes them this way? I doubt that the champions make the players toxic, so then these toxic players must be attracted to these champions.

But why? That's what I'd like your input on.

My guess: It's safe to say they have disgusting egos, but that can't be the only reason. I think they want to be seen as important, so they "prove themselves" as dominant by flaming anything their teammates do that they think is wrong, and when they die its the teams fault, not theirs. In other words, they're insecure and feel the need to achieve a lot to validate themselves.

"Outplay potential"

Effectively they have more potential to outplay people than most other champions. It's like laughing at someone for being unable to dance because their shoes are tied together (or because they have one leg if you want to be serious).

Class updates and reworks are slowly fixing this for older champions. Hopefully one day Yasuo and Riven's level of outplay potential will be considered normal.

That's true. They are a special class of champions that are good at 1v1's and 1v2's, and probably 1v3's sometimes. The players use this as an excuse to think highly of themselves for "solo-carrying their trash team."

If nobody paid attention to their flaming and toxic behaviour, I believe it will stop.

Think of how a toddler will cry to get it's parent's attention. If they give it attention, it'll cry every single time it wants attention because it knows this method works.

In the same way, when the riven/yasuo mains flame, the people they're flaming usually flame them back. This is exactly what the yasuo/riven palyers want, because now they can point out everything you do wrong and call you out for it, while they still get fed. It makes them feel good. However, if the person they were flaming muted them, the yasuo/riven main doesn't get the attention they're looking for, so they will wait for the next game to try again. If it happens all the time, and NOBODY gives them the attention they want, they'll stop being toxic because they gain nothing out of it.

It's not a rumor it's a well established fact. Riven mains are the absolute worst people in the entire game bar none. Riven is one of my permabans, not because I don't want to play one, but because I never want one on my team.

People who play Riven are only in it for themselves and nothing else.

They would rather leave a game that is being won if it means they're not the ones carrying the team. They blame virtually everyone but themselves for their own mistakes. They refuse to adapt or listen because they firmly believe they can "skill" their way out of any situation no matter how impossible.

I once read a statistic that someone was able to make on reddit and it showed that over 5% of all ragequits the entire freaking game are Riven. This is a game with over 100 different champs, and over 90 million players. That is a LUDICROUSLY high stat for a single champ to have.

If nothing else, do what I do. I take immense comfort in knowing that a Riven player's own stupidity and ego is the brick wall they will never be able to break down in order to succeed and progress in this game.

And when you see one doing what a stereotypical Riven does, just say #Riven.

Wow dude I take offense at that. I main riven. I’m not gonna lie and say i never flame, we all do some of the time, but it’s not like all riven mains are bad ppl

So they play difficult champions to show that they've "achieved" something in the game? I mean...You aren't wrong.

BananaJannana3 votes

Pretty much. There's a difference between thinking to yourself "wow I'm a really good riven/yasuo player" and typing in chat "YOU'RE ALL FUCKING TRASH COMPARED TO ME" They cross this line because they want people to acknowledge them so their ego is at peace.

I think, mainly for riven, they have been stated to be easy champs when in reality they take some knowledge f the champ to play well. When players attempt to play them they do poorly and don't know how to respond to not being able to play an "easy" champion (when they aren't easy). knowing that the community assumes they are easy also makes players not want to say they aren't doing well as the champ but instead find flaws in the other players and point that out instead to make them feel more at ease with themselves.

When you think of 'overall' details in the terms of difficulty, it can get tossed around in many ways.

-What was the general 'range' of the champions in terms of mechanics during that champion's release or latest 'update' whether it just be details in mechanics or what not?

-What is considered a 'general' level of knowledge in playing a MOBA? Is the difficulty based on a person first playing the champion, being a first timer in playing MOBAs? is it just the difficulty of timing, mechanics and so on that required to thread thru numerous needles to get the champion to 'function as it should in a fight"?

In this regard, i would prefer the difficulty bar is a proper measurement of the mechanic difficulty in operating and how a champion can operate in the same style as champions of the same role, namely if its more difficult, it would require more skill play like timing skill shots, using fog, bushes and jungle to get in position or thru its own kit, in order to set itself up in a favorable position.

In a perfect game i would go as far to say if the difficulty bar 'should' be simple enough where 'low difficulty' means the champion is easy to use, but can be still a reliable champion to use while a 'high difficulty' means it relies more heavily on its mechanics to operate and it creates a high risk to setup, but high reward if executed properly. Sadly plenty of champions whether they be out dated kits or never properly tuned at all, tend to pollute the board by either being ridiculously simple and ridiculously strong too OR have a very complex kit that some may seem useful but will have little reward using the same kit against another champion in the same role, which is vastly superior.

Though i have not been victim or friend to any Riven in team matches often to be knowledgable on Riven's power. But i am at least familiar with her kit enough to know she can be a pretty good skirmisher due to the use of a combo in 'semi dash' Q with an extra knock back in it, a stun, a 'mini dash that can reduce damage taken, and of course a ultimate which can give her a game changing spike in lane fights.' She is just like plenty of other resource less champions, can skip resource required items and skip straight towards powerful AD items to let her stomp a opponent faster.

Plenty of these flock reasons i can say is because too many players can imitate the same playstyle when a norm itemization (for Yasuo, Statik Shiv and Infinity Edge and Ezreal being Manamune and Iceborn Gauntlet) can not only be hugely powerful, but those same 'champions' have tools that dominate the crap outta opponents due to the synergy being so powerful, especially in the early game. Where part of the reason too is due to the use of particular masteries and especially Runes which give that extra inch to get away with powerful deleting combos that much easier.

Its where i would ultimately say that champions that all under using specific item builds that the combo is not norm in the hands of numerous champions should receive proper measures to curve back those dominant item build combos with them to force them to be more flexible in champion building, which of course could result in discovering more item build op combos (like how Ekko went 'tank ekko building', then we got a 'Yasuo build that is a 'tank Yasuo build') and acts as further notice that those champions ratios, bases and utility is way too dominantly flexible vs other champions that should technically have the same role, same style of damaging, but the gap in terms of 'rekting the opponents, is insanely huge."

They are both low skillfloor high skillcap champs with a lot of flashy moves. Said toxic players are usually in trash ELO, are bad at said champ, but think they're good because they can make a flashy move on a champion because said champion is low skillfloor.

Im a Riven main, and I can confirm to be toxic scum, but never to my own team, only to the enemy as to piss them off more, you see getting stomped by Riven already hurts your soul, but to get it rubbed in is worse, its all in the mind my friends, but Yasuo or Riven players who randomly flame their own team usually do so because they are fed, and want to win, as the champions that they main are considered "high skill cap" and is a reason for it being so, you cant imagine how many people say "Riven is easy i can 1v1 you anyday" so you pull them in a custom, whoop their ass, and ask them how easy she is, im off subject, hi there, im a toxic riven main

Hey, I'm also a riven main and i have played against other Rivens who were really toxic and have really inflated egos but personally i haven't really been toxic in any of my games because I'm a pacifist and usually i just blame myself which actually help you a lot when you feel like you're about to start being toxic. Maybe other's are toxic because they don't realize that when they do bad it could be because of something they are doing such as: being too aggressive, not getting cs etc but instead they focus on the wrongs of other people which is a lot more infuriating than just realizing that you're not perfect. For all you "toxic" players out there just remember that you do not do everything perfect and you should focus on what you're doing wrong to help you improve.

I'm a Yasuo Main , yea you can make fun of me, I'm currently in s4 div and I've never been toxic in a game. I understand many kids flame bcs they want to win ALWAYS and are sick with this game. The fact that there are so many flamers in this game is truly sad. [zombie-nunu-bummed]

I can see what your saying, but then again I just picked up Riven and lover her to death.

The whole spam abilities isn't completely wrong but a lot of times you have to enter with caution, think about an engage before going in. "Should I start E Q AA Q W Q AA?" She has a little more planning and timing than a couple of champs. But once a Riven is on cooldown we turn into fish, just floppy creatures who can't do much but lightly tap you.

Then again I'm also not planning on acting toxic or anything just because I made an outplay happen. If I do something cool I might be like "Wow, I could have died there." But flaunting is just what assholes do tbh.

As a riven main myself, i feel bad that this champ gets a bad rep. The most probable cause that these ppl that main high skill champions and are toxic is because in the hands of a good player they can solo carry. When they get fed and dont win they then blame their team because they think that just because they are fed means that they should win and if they dont, its the teams fault. What they fail to realize is a lot of times they are the biggest feeder. If a janna is o and 3 with 20 assits she has contributed more than a yas with 10 kills and 5 deaths. Especially since the yas prob was worth 300 gold and sometimes prob more. They still however think it was the team that fed though.
