as a point to consider ... every first pick from season 1 to present has been vulnerable to a counter pick. Sometimes its a hard counter, and when you arent friends with the entire team its hard to first pick something you arent going to play, or just first pick support if you arent playing support so that a lane doesnt get hard countered. First picks are troublesome, so maybe it isnt Garen 's fault

That's fine. But there's counters then there's impossible lanes prone to feeding. You DO NOT pick Garen first when you know someone is gonna counter you with a ranged champ. Why would you do that to your self? Your team??? That's like first picking Katarina and then throwing a fit because you got countered and ending up feeding.

As a first pick, you should be picking "safe" champions with the fewest amount of hard counters. NOT one of the most counterable champions in the League.

Oh I'm not angry with you lol. Just making a point. :)

For me? A safe top laner is someone like Shyvana, Kennen, Maokai, Irelia, Jayce , Renekton, Pantheon.

i was also wrecked by a jayce recently, lol...first time i ever faced jayce at all was with garen top, and it went as you would expect...but i bet with practice i can even the odds :P summoner 14

The thing about Garen is that while he does have many counters very few of them are hard counters. There are only a handful of champions who can truly take a dump on him in lane, and out of those I can only think of two who are an actual problem to the rest of the team when the laning phase ends. I'd say this makes him a rather safe first pick.

Your issue isn't with Garen, it's with bad players picking a champion they do not know well enough as first pick.

you know theres an easy way to counter him. rush boots before he gets them. well not really a counter but helps laning phase cuz he cant q you as easily
