PSA: Old champion's kits CANNOT just be brought back!

I know that it's a really exciting idea to think of - A gamemode with all of the pre-rework champions, I certainly would love this just as much as the next guy.

Unfortunately, Riot has stated (I can't find the source D:) that they get rid of old champions' kits once they're reworked, so there's no way to bring them back.

You may not trust me in saying this because I'm not providing a source, but think about it, everyone and their mother has had this idea, if Riot could do it, why the hell wouldn't they?

And because of this, I also think people should stop pretending they reinvented the wheel by thinking of this gamemode. I'd say 80% of the community probably has.

Theoretically, they could just code the old champions fresh, but the amount of time and effort that would take is not viable in the slightest, it would be like making dozens of new champions just without having to come up with the ideas. It's not feasible.

There's literally no way that's true. No modern company would run their codebase in such an irresponsible fashion.

So you mean to tell me a company with multiple patches doesn't save each patch individually in case of massive hardware/software failure so they can rebuild?

You people are dumb.

Riot just wants you to think all that code is gone because they're banking on people not knowing how computers work. Or they really do overwrite everything in which case they are even more moronic than I realized.

Riot is likely simplifying the problem for the lay man (or the OP didn't remember the post correctly). While Riot no doubt has version control that would let them go back to any version of the game, they can't drag and drop abilities from an old character into the current build, because of the insane amount of merge conflicts. It's not just a matter of naming a spell "old_SionQ", all of the helper files have been changed.

If riot did things in a modular fashion, it would be completely plausible for them to simply drag and drop "old champion x".
But... riot does spaghetti code. One thing leads to another which leads to another which leads to another which leads to invisible dorans shield nerfs.

Everything we know from riot about their practices indicates that that dont keep backups beyond the previous patch, and that all changes they make are changes directly to the game. Part of that is riots head coder not believing in the existence of spaghetti code or bad practices in general... Another part is the fact riot has not created their game to be modular in the back end, its a lot like a patchwork quilt.

In order to fix the backend of the game to be modular they would have to both REBUILD the game from the ground up AND be very strict in their coding practices. If theres one thing we know about riot games... They dont hold anyone accountantable and have very little oversight, so neither of those things are going to actually happen. We can only hope their WoW-based MMO which will have a MOBA-PvP will be properly made.

You could've just replied to the topic instead of starting a new thread.

It's because I see this idea thrown out a lot, not just that one thread

Here's a source: https://youtu.be/cV8rhu9mE64?t=410 Here's a different thread on it: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/WOLvoQod-riot-is-there-a-reason-you-dont-have-your-old-champs-archived-somewhere Can't seem to find the red post about it tho Edit: There is actually a red post from a while ago that confirms what op is saying is true I just can't find it.

They don't keep the code, but (and I can't find the source) they have a "vault" of old models and stuff, so assuming the engine works smoothly I think it would be pretty easy compared to coding something entirely new like Nexus Siege, Nexus Blitz, etc.
