How come Manamune is no longer good on Jayce?

TSIA. I've just seen a lot more Jayce lately but if memory serves me right, this guy used to rush manamune. Now most of the Jayces I see just take armor pen.

Your memory does serve you. But your question isn't quite right. It's not that Manamune is no longer good on Jayce, it's that Jayce is now good enough to no longer need Manamune.

It's not that Manamune is bad, people just prefer the armor pen (Lethality) /CDR build on him now. I think worlds had something to do with it.

-No need anymore to have an increased mana pool because people learned how to manage their mana -No spammable spells to stack it -Going tear unless you're a super outscaling champion it's too risky to do -There are better items for jayce atm -Doesn't give you lane pressure -Most matchups if they see you going tear they'll just smile creepily and jump on you and kill you -Also right now jayce is kinda of a messy pick because lethality sucks on anything that isn't an assassin that stacks all the lethality items and duskblade, and jayce is not an assassin, let alone having an invisibility to proc duskblade, but i guess he still works...

Jayce is overloaded in the early game. Tear builds takes away from that. By the time you get manamune/muramana, you're already starting to fall off if you didn't get a heavy lead.

He used to get it because he was mana gated with his fairly high costs in addition to the fact that it worked pretty well with his kit, but now he no longer needs to rush it because he doesn't have mana problems and rushing Ghostblade and Cleaver on him is broken.

He's still gated essentially the same way he was before...which is to say hardly at all. The mana buffs they gave him hardly affect him until 13+, where he starts to fall off.

The issue is that he was balanced around Tear when he really didn't need it at all. The only way you OOM on him is if you're spamming Q all day or everything off CD.
