You don't have to be ranged to be an AD Carry.

Characters like Yas, Riven, Lee Sin, Darius and Illaoi are all ADCarries. They are also melee. What most people refer to as an ADC is actually an AD Marksmen. There are also AP Marksmen like Satan. Just putting this out there since a lot of people playing just don't seem to realize this.

Omfg another Leona jg player.

That's almost as epic as the time i was Lux jg in a game and the enemy jg was also Lux.

But yeah I agree that the "if not broken then bad" mentality is really running rampant, one example in particular is when Rylai's was nerfed. It's still a perfectly good item and terrifying on champs with damage over time oriented abilities like Kat, Anivia and most battle mages.

I also particularly like Kat bot apc since there are often times two squishies, neither who counter me. It lets me scale many times faster.

The whole idea of a meta really is the main problem in league imo. So many people just go off some slight knowledge and freak out over minor changes.

Like recently when people heard Lee Sin was getting buffed his ban rate went up 14%. And the buff hadn't even gone through yet, and it ended up being a late game nerf. His ban rate still hasn't fully recovered. It's ridiculous a lot of the time.

Anivia only has one skill that doesn't have a slow on it(and does damage), and that is used directly after either of the skills that do have slows on them.

I wouldn't recommed it because you pay too much for way too little.

Get item 3151 instead.

Also people have a weird interaction with nerfs or buffs being planned. Back when Riven was introduced, she was in need of a boost to her auto's(i think it was base attack damage or something). Riot hotfixed it(or patched it or whatever) but the buff accidentally didn't go through, yet people still said how it felt so much better.

I was using Anivia as an example of a battle mage, youre right, shed suck with rylais.

Illaoi, Darius, Riven and Lee Sin are not carries.

League fundamnetally cannot have melee carries because it does not have turn rates or BKB.

Terozu4 votes

Kat is a melee carry, Yas is a melee carry, Fizz is a melee carry, Ekko is a melee carry, Kayle, Tryn, Vi, Camille, etc. You are wrong on so many levels. And yes they are carries, they can easily have the most attack damage dealt in a match, which, fyi, is what an ADCarry is.

GrievousFetus1 votes

does damage != carry

Terozu1 votes

Most damage = Damage carry.

Most ADamage = ADCarry

Most AP Damage = APCarry

Damage carry != true carry

Carrying in damage and flat out carrying can be separate.

Old Fiora, Master Yi, Old Sion, possibly Aatrox (though it's a bad idea) All of these champions can fit under the "melee carry" title, yet most of them have been reworked into something different entirely. TL;DR put Yi bot lane if you want a true melee carry because he's the only one left.

The point you're missing here is that the ones you named are generally either AP, Ability focused (More akin to an assassin than a carry) or more viable to build as a bruiser due to their inability to deal high DPS and/or gap close/escape safely.

On that note, I just need to state that the Fiora rework is cancer and needs to be reverted. VU isn't terrible but that kit is all kinds of cringeworthy.

what crack are you smoking because I want some.

Terozu1 votes

Yeah tbh i love the new gameplay but the VU was an awful choice.

I didn't say it was good, just not "terrible". The kit on the other hand; removed passive, removed ult, nerfed Q and E, made W a skillshot? Replaced passive with % max health true damage mini game, Replaced ult with more mini game. This champion is now a trap. You pick it against champions that need to build defensive items as their core because you will always win against them, unless they realize what the trap is and build full damage instead because the only way to deal with % max health true damage is to burst them before they burst you.

Terozu1 votes

I honestly believe the VU was the worst part of the upgrade.

Literally anyone in the game can be a carry. Anyone. Some are just better than others. And Yi is DEFINITELY not the only melee carry.

You high? Any champion can carry as in any champion can get fed and deal damage given skill variances and build paths. To be a carry is different, specifically in terms of being an ad carry. Bur first you have to understand why that is. What's the alternative to being an ad carry? How about an ad caster? A champion like Zed is an AD caster, they do very few auto attacks when it comes to fighting an enemy champion, and rely on ability scaling to do the majority of their damage. Hell, Ezreal is more akin to a caster than a carry, but he's played bot lane because he's a marksman. Along the same vein of thought, we've seen AP champions be successful in bot lane because they rely on range and can pair well with most supports. That doesn't make them ad carries.

An AD Carry is usually kitted with more utility spells (in comparison to just straight damage) and make more use of auto attacks as their primary damage source. Currently, the only melee champs that do this successfully are Master Yi, Aatrox, and possibly trundle? (Don't own him, don't know everything about him). Previously Fiora and Sion fit that same category before being reworked, so they are out of the picture.

In terms of outputting enough DPS to be considerable for the role in lieu of a ranged AD carry, the champion in question will need to be able to function without defensive items. The best champion to fit that spot by far is Master Yi.

Terozu2 votes

Ezreal is actually the perfect example. He's an AD Caster, he's still an ADCarry. ADCasters and Auto Attackers are both ad carries. If you scale off of AD and do High damage, whether from mainly autos (auto attackers) or mainly abilities(casters), then you are and can be an ADCarry.

ADCarry is not a role, it is a class. It just means someone who scales with AD. ADCarry has NOTHING to do with autos or spells. Only damage type. There are currently 5 roles.

Top Jg Mid Bot Support

ADCarries can be played in any role except maybe support, since they mainly focus on, well, supporting.

The phrase "ADCarry" does not refer to a role or lane, it does not refer to using autos or abilities, thats auto attackers and casters, it also does not mean ranged or melee. It refers to scaling. That's what it is.

If your mainly an ad scaling person, you are an ADCarry, flat out. That means if you build a supp like, say, Soraka, or a mage like Ahri as a marksmen, then they are an ADCarry. If you build Amumu, Leona, Garen, etc. AD then they are now being played ADCarry.
Thats what ADCarry means.

It does not mean botlane marksmen like so many ppl think, it means "Im gonna deal a lot of AD this game and overall focus on building AD items". Now does this always work? No. Some characters suck at it. Doesnt mean they cant try to be ADCarries.

What youre thinking of is "Marksmen" they are ranged ADCarries and in general a vital asset to a balanced team.I

wrong

ADC is an outdated term, which is why riot calls them marksmen now.

but even when the term was not dated ADC always referred to range carries. Riven was an AD caster and yasuo was a melee carry, but they were not " adc's".

this is why riot calls them slayers to specifically refer them as melee carries.

Terozu2 votes

Riot still uses the term ADC, they just don't soley refer to ADMarksmen with it. The ADC has and will always be the person who dealt the most ADamage.

And no theyre referred to as slayers because they have aoe attack damage skills and are melee. Slayers and Marksmen can both be ADCs.

And also, many ADMarksmen are considered AD Casters such as Ezreal, Xayah, and Lucian.

They use the term "ADC" and "marksman" interchangeably because the community has got used to calling marksmen ADCs. And it's pretty hard to change vocabulary that is already well established.

And no theyre referred to as slayers because they have aoe attack damage skills and are melee. Slayers and Marksmen can both be ADCs.

Slayers are class of mobile champions that are generally squishy and look to take down champions relatively quickly. They are divided into Skirmishers (Riven, Fiora, Yasuo etc.) and Assassins (Zed, Ekko, Kassadin etc.). The difference between the two is that Skirmishers aim to fight everyone and have some form of defensive spell, Assassins are geared towards killing squishies and have more ways to get both in and out of fights.

In the logical sense, yes they can be. But in the way the term "ADC" is used by most of the community, no.

And also, many ADMarksmen are considered AD Casters such as Ezreal, Xayah, and Lucian.

You're right but they are all referred to as ADCs because they are all marksmen.

Terozu2 votes

My whole point is basically that the community is using ADC wrong.

And sorry I get the general term Slayers mixed up with Skirmishers a lot. At least the name.

And yes Riot used to use the terms interchangeably because thats what it was turned into, but now they simply use ADC for any attack damage champion who can deal high damage, the same way they used to at the game's beginning.

All I got is you are super desperate to be right and the whole community to be wrong.

Get off your high horse.

All im saying is is that the terms changed. People need to pay attention.

I once stopped bot lane as Darius ADC with Nami support. This was in like plastic 5 normals though and a lot of situational luck was also on my side so I wouldn't recommend it as a main occurrence.

Terozu1 votes

Yeah they worked really well in the past, but flat out EVERYTHING in league is situational like that. Just not AS situational.

It wasn't that far back. Just this summer. I was Darius with a random player as Nami against a Twitch and someone else. It worked out because when Nami landed her knockup it pretty much got me a free grab with my E where I can easily cut them up. If they want to stay and fight, they die, if they try and run, then they get nailed by my Q and by then would usually have 5 stacks of my hemmorage.

If it wasn't for having a good Nami player as support landing those knockups, that game probably would have gone horribly for me.

I'm also in somewhat low elo too so it's not like I really get matched with or against the best of the best.

yeah, its just a common misconception about the role. ADC= attack damage carry, which is defined as someone who deals the bulk of their damage through auto attacks.

Terozu1 votes

No its someone who mainly deals physical damage, Ezreal can ADC but is still a caster.

sketchy11 votes

but since they reworked mages he kinda left bot lane tho, into more mid. its like teemo, its more an exception tbh, and he deals magic damage
