Should I get Rengar or Hecarim?

I'm looking for a jungler who can invade, counter jungle, and gank, while having some carry potential in team fights that junglers like Elise Khazix LeeSin lack. How do Hecarim and Rengar compare? Any advice?

Hecarim. As someone who mained him at a point, I can tell you that he pretty much has all those capabilities if played correctly. Rengar lacks any real teamfight capacity.

Isn't he a better teamfighter then the assassin junglers? A much better teamfighter? He has sustained damage, a heal/removal of cc, and cc. I have seen tanky Rengar work well in teamfights, but maybe that was just because he was op or a few op items?

Any assassin can work well in teamfights if the enemy team is uncordinated / he is fed. However, not only is Rengar getting a nerf with the upcoming patch, a good team will pretty much immediately destroy him after he uses his ult to blow someone up. This is why he has a 48% winrate.

Ok thanks for helping me with this. I do remember tanky Rengar working but I think that might have just been when he was op after the rework/pre nerfs.

Since you used to main Hecarim can you tell me when he hits his power spike? I know he has to farm early but then has an absurd combination of mobility damage and tankyness. What do you find so fun about him? Can you just generally tell me what he's like to play? I can find guides that give me facts, but it helps to actually hear what the gameplay experience is like from people, as that's more subjective.

In my opinion, it is really hard to nail down exactly when Hecarim spikes. If you are doing really well early and get tanky, then you can dominate no problem. However, that also depends on team composition of course. I would say he hits his definite spike mid-game, and it can fall off late if you don't position correctly / engage correctly. I think the thing that I find so much fun about him is the mobility factor, you never really feel too far away from your team, and you can make some real plays with correct positioning / ults.

Hecarim feels very slow in the beginning, unless you pick up some early kills. You aren't going to clear the jungle super fast if you don't get an advantage, but patience and timing helps to get ahead. He can always be relevant too due to his CC, so you don't see many Hecarim's go like 0/12.

ok thanks again, two last questions how difficult is he to learn? and if he is not very ahead can he still 100-0 squishies without too much difficulty cuz of mobility+tanky+damage?

There's no champion that does everything. Invading jungler that counter jungles all game and has solid ganks? Ivern

Rengar is better in all aspects than Hecarim except in the case that you are behind, but if you are behind on Rengar, you have other issues. The biggest problem about playing Rengar is that you are using such an OP champion you have to control yourself and not overestimate your damage or tankiness.
