Malphite didn't deserve to have his AP ratios gutted

I looked on champion.gg before they nerfed him and he only had a 50% winrate. He was not OP by any means whatsoever. Riot is just biased against tanks and will gladly nerf them anytime someone complains. Don't believe me? They also nerfed Nautilus this patch, who was average at best.

He was an AP assassin and free wins in three positions. So I guess Riot hates AP Assassins.

As for Naut did you just not watch Worlds at all?

Jimmy Rustles7 votes

lol, nerfed his BS AP build, tank build loses like 5 damage off ult

Naut is super common pick and insanely oppressive

Both are obvious nerfs

They should have nerfed his r ap ratio to 60% not 80%.

No they should of just got rid of it all together.

His ratios went from 100% to 80%... that is not having his ratios being "gutted"

WoonStruck1 votes

15% or so damage off an ability qualifies as 'gutted' last time I checked, considering the majority of changes end up being 20 damage or less off late game...

Did he deserve it though? Yeah, probably.

It was really just one ratio.

Why are we playing semantics here. You know what I meant.

Malphite deserves to be nerfed. His ap build is so toxic that going tank is now a troll build on him. Yes it's that bad, especially since Malphite is SUPPOSED to be a tank.

Nautilus does deserve a nerf too. I play that champion and his cc is very strong. going a hybrid of AP and HP makes him even worse. Not even Morgana can deal with him even though she counters him.

"He wasnt MEANT to be X!"

Ya'll need to REALLY stop with this line of thinking, because pigeonholing and homogenizing champions is the single quickest way to kill the game unless you want EVERY champion to be good at ONLY one thing.

Id be fine with it personally if, and only if, every champion was reworked to have a niche and only that niche. No more of this "bruiser", "diver", "Skirmisher", etc combo classes. No more "im mobile and damage". None of that "im a marksman AND a caster!" junk.

No I ain't gonna stop. When a different playstyle is used all the while can also fullfill the primary role, then that's a problem. I never said their shouldn't be diversity in the game, but the problem with diversity is that it's just a cheap way to say "fuck you" to counterplay.

Remember Tank Ekko? Tank Fizz? Soraka top? Irelia mid? Yeah. Those shit were the definition of toxic.

"while can also fulfill the primary role"? I think you have a problem with comprehending the problem youre talking about here bucko. Irelia and Raka are instances of the meta in a specific lane changing to fit the playstyle of a specific champion, but "tank" ekko and fizz? Thats not a TANK problem, thats a kit problem that was never addressed.

Malphite was NEVER a bruiser. To do palatable damage he had to go all in on AP and forgo most defense, which sqaurely put him in the "i built full damage" camp. Your problem isnt with the champion itself. Your problem is with your perception of the champion; we saw this with the garen rework. He wasnt actually as OP as people claimed, he in fact had only gained a little additional power outside his ult. The issue is that you people have the PERCEPTION of "This champion is a tank and tanks are supposed to do damage" so when they BUILD damage your perception bias kicks in and you go "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT TANK DOING DAMAGE" instead of realizing that a champion who built damage killed you.

Iirc there was an entire psych paper done on the roadhog incident from overwatch, it might be worth a read if you want to educate yourself on perception bias and how it impacts games.

There's so much wrong I just now read that I don't even know wtf you're saying. I said Malphite doing full damage when building AP all the while being tanky enough. Not whatever the fuck you're trying to shove down my perception. I didn't even say anything about being a Bruiser. Jeez. At least read before talking. bUcKo.

You have it in your head that malphite is a tank. You have it in your head that tanks do no damage. When a tank builds damage, your reflex is to rage about how a tank shouldnt do damage... Despite the fact theyre not building like a tank.

What you have is a perception issue, not a game health one. AP malphite never built tank or bruiser items. Not even a RoA. The most "tank" they got is zhonyas and the odd protobelt. It might give then 130armor with a max W passive, but honestly 130 armor is nothing when you should have 300AD and a 75% crit rate.

Now, if your complaint was his passive shield makes him a little to beefy for a burst caster... Id give you that, because thats a pretty easy fix; lower the base, make the scaling higher.

Ok I'm not gonna deny that AP Malphite was strong, but was he really that much better than other champs building AP? Having burst after building AP isn't something exclusive to Malphite.

Illabethe1 votes

It's not about the burst. It's about the fact that it's Burst that happens during an Unstoppable Status that is followed by a knockup long enough to kill you before you can even skill.

Most AP champions can be mitigated, because the burst doesn't all occur at one time, and because there is time to react/counter CC

Furthermore, his scaling was outpacing both Magic Resist builds AND HP builds, so when most champions building against him would have ~ 2000 HP, he'd still be doing 2100 post mitigation.

He was routinely doing this every game, and the ONLY reason he is 50% is because his leads were novelties; He would kill 1-2 people, and then be useless for a minute +, and often would be cleaned up by the allies of the champs he killed. Teams would take advantage of the gaps. Nothing more. Nothing less.
