Aurelion Sol is going to be extremely strong in this meta.
Here's why.
Itemization: -Rod of Ages is arguably the best AP item in the game right now. He uses it very well. Hell, it's his core. -Closely following behind is Abyssal Scepter. He has just enough range to be strong while also making good use of this item. -The meta currently shits on damage/burst AP champions mid. The whole idea right now is to pick a utility/roam midlaner who can get one of your 3 (because "fuck you AP champs." - Rito Gaemz 2016) ahead to do dirty things with their DPS. This opens up spots for champions like Lissandra, Lux, and Lulu. Aurelion Sol not only roams better, when played correctly, he brings a damn lot more utility, boasting his own AoE Insec, big-ass AoE stun, and delivering it all on some ridiculously long flight over much more terrain than LeBlanc could even dream of crossing. -Speaking of utility, how about that AoE circle of Rylai's application? -Last but not least, AP champions right now need to be able to have sufficient mana while getting incredibly beefy to hold their own in fights. Aurelion does that better than everyone EXCEPT Lissandra, and he has more range than her so it more than evens out. -Everyone is so beefy, Liandry's on him is disgusting. You're going to be looking at a kit like RoA, Rylai's, Liandry's, Zhonya's, Void Staff w/ Swiftness or Lucidity Boots. Optionally, swap out Liandry's or Zhonya's for Rabadon's or Abyssal, depending on who you're against and what you need. -He POTENTIALLY brings engage better than any of the best midlaners right now. The only champion who rivals him is Corki, and Corki's Package is on a much longer CD, tradeoff being he's safer afterward because his W CD refreshes immediately.
Cons: -He's going to be tricky to master due to how well you need to kite with his passive/W. -Once he goes in, he stays in. If you botch a gank, you're done. And it looks pretty easy to botch a gank with his E. -Because of the nature of his passive-based gameplay, it looks like he takes a while to ramp up, meaning until then you need to be able to farm extremely well or at the very least get your other lanes ahead.

Sol at the same rate as his stars without leaving their hitbox, they will take damage once every third of the way around.** - A way to kill him. Pretty soon Koreans will start using passive to advantage.
