Shen Rework Concept

Besides for remaining as a Ninja Tank with a Global shield ultimate teleport thing, I will suggest a full kit rework. I want to make him a pusher in terms of wave clear to apply pressure in that regards to force someone to deal with a pushed minion wave and then he ultimates to his team creating a 4v5 scenario. Something I will try to avoid is actual efficient tower pushing and dueling (everyone hates that Jax, Yi, Tryndamere, Nasus split pushing in solo queue). In return Shen will become a greater tank for team fighting, peeling, and of course damage sponging.

Ki Strike (Passive): Static Cooldown: 12/10/8/6/4 seconds [@levels 1/5/9/13/17] Shen's next basic attack or Vorbal Blade deals 4% of his maximum health to and around his target [approx. ~375 units] as bonus magic damage (200% increased damage against minions).

Vorbal Blade (Q): Cooldown: 6 seconds; Cost: 60/55/50/45/40 Energy; Range: 600 units Shen throws a blade at a target enemy to mark the target for 3 seconds and deal 80/120/160/200/240(+60%AP) magic damage. Shen's next basic attack against the marked target will consume the mark to slow the target by 25/35/45/55/65% for 2 seconds and restore 6/7/8/9/10% of Shen's maximum health. If an ally champion's basic attack consumes the mark then they are healed for half the value and the slow duration is only 1 second.

Feint (W): Cooldown: 14/12/10/8/6 seconds; Cost: 50 Energy Shen will feint causing all incoming enemy attacks or abilities to miss Shen for the next 0.75 second.

If Shen uses Feint while an enemy champion is currently taunted then the attacks will still hit Shen, but then 40/45/50/55/60% of the damage is reflected back at the attacker.

Shadow Dash (E): Cooldown: 24/20/16/12/8 seconds; Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Energy; Range: 650 units Shen dashes in the target direction taunting struck champions for 1.5 seconds and dealing 60/90/120/150/180(+10% Bonus Health) as physical damage to all enemies. Taunted champions deal 40% less damage to Shen.

Every enemy champion taunted restores 30 energy to Shen.

Stand United (R): Cooldown: 200/170/140 seconds; Range: Global Shen channels for 3 seconds to teleport to a target ally champion and while channeling the ally champion gains 80% damage reduction. Upon a successful channel Shen gains 60/70/80% bonus movement speed for 5 seconds when moving towards enemy champions.

Hope you appreciate the rework concept for our beloved ninja tank, Shen! Have a nice day everyone! ~ Stacona

Here are my thoughts: Increase MS to 345, gains MR per level, small boost to HP/HP per level.

Passive:Feint

Shen is a ninja, and is thus a difficult target to pin down in a fight. His quick reactions and movements and keen senses allow him to roll with the punches and avoid damage.

Shen takes 6/8/10% less damage from basic attacks (levels 1/6/11) and Area of Effect Skills. After taking damage from 10/9/8 such attacks (levels 1/6/11) Shen gains stealth and the ability to move through units for 2 seconds. Activating a skill or attacking breaks this effect immediately.

Passive: Shadow Strike

After Shen enters stealth, his next attack within 5 seconds deals dmg to all nearby enemies (range: 250?), slowing them by 50% for 2.5 seconds.

Thoughts: This new passive allows for Shen to remain tanky, while also having the ability to reposition in combat. It rewards him with "ninja flare" for doing his job, being the front line and protecting his allies.

Q: Vorpal Blade_____Cost: 50 Energy________Cooldown: 8 seconds

Shen throws one of his swords in a straight line (Im thinking 600 range) that deals 80/120/160/200/240 (+50% Bonus AD)(+30%AP) magic damage to the first target hit, marking them and revealing them to Shen for 5 seconds. While marked Shen may reactivate this skill to cast Retrieval.

Q: Retrieval_______Cost: 25 Energy (Q's cooldown starts after this is cast, or the target is no longer marked)

Shen appears behind his target and rips the Vorpal Blade from them, dealing magic damage equal to 6/7/8/9/10% of the targets max health and healing Shen for the same.

The vorpal blade drinks the life of its targets and returns it to its weilder

THOUGHTS: This makes the skill more dynamic and fun to use. Grants him some fun uses, potential engage, escape, and feels ninja like when you just appear behind him. It gives him some decent sustain, but not over bearing and not as constant.

W: Ki-Strike_____ Cost: None____________Cooldown: 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 seconds

Shen's next basic attack deals bonus magic damage equal to 50% AD plus 10% Shen's bonus health. Hitting an enemy champion will restore 20 energy. Basic attacks against non-structures reduce the cooldown of this ability by 1 second, doubled vs Champions. If used in conjunction with Shadow Strike, the duration and power of the slow is increase to 65% for 3.25 seconds. Hitting multiple enemy champions does not restore more energy.

THOUGHTS: As an auto-attack reset, this should increase Shen's dueling power, as he can save his Ki-Strikes for the right moments. He can use it immediately for 1v1 dmg output, or save it for when his passive stealth procs to try and get a bigger slow on targets.

E: Shadow Dash________Cost: 120/110/100/90/80

Shen dashes a short distance (450) and deals 50/80/110/140/170(+60%AP) magic damage to all enemies he hits. Hitting enemy champions refunds 50% of the energy and taunts them for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds. While taunted, enemy champions must auto-attack Shen and Shen takes 50% reduced damage from them (DR applies to auto attacks only). Hitting multiple enemy champions does not refund more energy. The distance Shen dashes is increased by 50% of his bonus movement speed.

THOUGHTS: Ghost synergy anyone? :P Mobility tank is what I like here. Running from a ninja should be difficult.

R:Eye of Twilight/Shadow Protector

Passive: Eye of Twilight: Whenever Shen is stealthed (via his passive) he reveals invisible/stealthed units and traps within 500/550/600 range.

ACTIVE: Shadow Protector: Shen enters the realm of shadows, becoming untargetable and granting a shield to nearby allies (1000 range) equal to 10% of his max HP for up to 5 seconds. While he remains in the shadows, shielded allies can see invisible/stealthed units and traps within 300 range of themselves. The first time an allies Shield is broken, Shen leaves the shadows and appears next to ally.

THOUGHTS: This new ultimate would keep Shen as a team fight protector. The rest of his skills would still make him an effective split pusher, but doing so means his ult has less use. If Shen is supposed to be a ninja tank/protector, he should need to be with his team to do so. Split pushing should have a trade off.

Extremely wordy and changes Shen too much-- players do want their champion to not be completely alienated, even though shen is in a weird spot where too strong he is overpowered, too weak he is never played- balanced then someone else does shen's job's better

What I wanted to do with Shen is split push by clearing waves, apply pressure on that front, and join his team as a CC tank and away from a duelist standpoint --- so pretty much lower damage, add CC, and give him tank scaling ratios so that he scales as a tank and not a duelist while granting him waveclear a majour weakness in shen currently and when someone comes to shen he ult to an ally and runs in with a majour offensive speed boost for a longish duration

So you want Shen to be able to split push via good wave clear, more CC, and join his team when contested.

This is why Shen is so hard to balance. If you make his ability to clear waves/split push any stronger, it makes his ULT by default much stronger. This is why Shen is a PAIN to balance as is, and could go for a semi-complete rework. You can't have amazing split, push, amazing teamfight, and be able to do both at the same time. As it stands, he also lacks in thematics. As a ninja, the only 2 points in his kit that match the theme are the weak dash and his "appear from nowhere" ult, which is telegraphed really bad and very easy to stop.

Some general ninja themes:

Speed: Shen moves like a fatty. Dash is meh.

Stealth: Shen has none.

Assassination: Not Shen's thing, as a tank, but still. Ki-Strike?

Trickery: Nothing is overly deceptive about Shen's kit and playstyle.

Escape Artist: He can dash through walls, sometimes? His dash is unreliable since it doesnt always go max distance. (I've seen pro's fail it)

Skill: Shen's kit doesn't say "skillful" to me.

Now, Im not saying that Shen (or any ninja for that reason) should have ALL of these things. But Shen is severely lacking. But if you look at the other ninjas in the game, they fufill the ninja fantasy as a character pretty well. Shen needs some love, but unless they change his ult a bit and redistribute his power budget, I doubt you will see anything.

Here's a video of a Shen Rework concept, it's pretty good, nothing special but some good ideas. Check it out :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScYBMwD-Jyc
