I'm not saying that isn't reasonable, I just don't think it would be "normals"
I think they probably should do something like this, to be honest.
You are matched in the exact same way as in ranked, but your rank is not on the line.

I already wait 6 to 10 minutes in a normal queue as it is on my main, matching it with my rank would mean I'd have to smurf to play normals because of queue times since most people in higher elo rarely play normals as it is. Each time a smurf raised up another account would then need to be created for casual games, or when smurfing we'd just treat ranked on a smurf even more casually, which could potentially ruin games even more than we already are.

2019 Ranked has MMR/LP "splash" to other roles, right? Why not have a little bit of that "splash" go towards your Normal's MMR? That way when people take a break from playing their 1,000 Ranked games in Diamond to play some Normals, the MMR doesn't think they're the Normals equivalent of Bronze 5.
