Should junglers build sightstone?

Lugg··1 votes·887 views

The title says it all. I personally think that junglers should. You can never have enough vision in the game. Wards = Wins.

EDIT: I'm not saying to necessarily rush it. Just maybe as the 3rd -4th item. Also, the health is better for the Cinderhulk guys.

In my opinion, it depends on the jungler. Playing Evelynn, mostly based on AP and AD, and pretty squishy? Nah, don't take it. Playing Sion, a tank? Sure, I'll go for some of that.

depends on what jungler you are and howmuch you are counter jungling/getting invaded and howmch there is being roamed

i actualy find it more effective to buy a few wards and dont buy a sightstone ( but only if your team mates are smart enough to actualy spend 250 gold on upgrading their trinket )

Raxxxus1 votes

they dont need to if they get the trinket ward then at level 9 upgrade it to the yellow one and not the pink then they have all the wards 1 person can place.

Yes and No.

Yes because it's a cost efficient item early game, and the fact that you need red trinket, but the sightstone upgrade sucks ass, and overall the item will remain useful throughout. However, this does not mean every jungler should build it.

For example: Imagine you are Master Yi, and you are opting for damage build. You do not want sightstone, as it takes up an item slot and potential defense/damage. What you do instead is upgrade trinket ward, which is the same as a sightstone but sacrifices ward clearance and health.

TL;DR: Buy it if you are supportive jungler/tanky, not if you are assasin/damage/other.

On pure tanks yes, on fighters no.

That depends, on what Jungler your playing, what your goals are as a Junglers, and What items will help you meat those goals?

A sight stone helps supportive Junglers like nunu, with Objective control, and invading and counter jungling. However to say that the Jungler has been relegated to a position of support, is probably an extradition.

Jungler is a supportive role. It is your job to control your jungle and help your lanes win.

It is your job to control objectives.

Fixed that for you.

Lugg1 votes

I consider that part of controlling the jungle. I should have included that as well.

As in, it's not jungler's job to win lanes. Of course, junglers should gank to provide lane pressure, but it's not the jungler's job to win all the lanes.

Lugg1 votes

Of course the laner has to win his lane, there is nothing you can do if he sucks. But the jungler pressure can really up the odds of the laner winning.

Svddenly1 votes

Ekko Khazix LeeSin MasterYi Rengar Shaco Udyr (tiger) aren't really supportive junglers.

Amumu Maokai Nautilus Sejuani are very supportive junglers.

You can't just make generalizations about positions like that. Role =/= position. Jungle is a position. Support is a role.

Lugg1 votes

Support is a position and a role. Look at Nunu for example. His primary role is support and his second is fighter. Yet he is one of the strongest junglers in the game right now. Sej and Amumu are tanks, but they are the best junglers.

50000000000000001 votes

That's because "jungler" is not a role. It's a position.

Svddenly1 votes

Support is only a position (even then just barely) when you go bot lane and are helping the adc. But actually the position is just bot lane. Just because someone's primary role is support doesn't mean that they're always a support. Nunu for example. His only support thing to do is blood boil. But when he's jungle he doesn't get a lot of time to blood boil teammates.

Depends on jungler.......lee sin synergies the most with sightstone because he can utilize his ward hop which greatly increases his mobility around the map. You also have to consider that sightstone is an item that only gives you health in terms of combat effectiveness. Don't expect to do dmg when u build this item.

Lugg1 votes

Do you really need the damage for ganks anyway? Isn't it better for your laner to get the kill?

Svddenly1 votes

"Better?" Yes. But it doesn't matter that much.

Also depends in the jungler and the laner and how the game is going.

If I'm doing better than the laner, I'll take the kill purposefully and expect no shit from them. Why? Because I can help all the lanes while they still get assist gold and take tower.

Other times I might end up getting the kill because I want to secure it.

Lugg1 votes

I always agree with securing the kill if it looks like they may get away. But it has been my experience that when a jungler leads the team in kills, that team loses 80% of the games. You have to have fed laners to win teamfights.

AwesomeChad1 votes

Well you obviously want to do damage when you're ganking lol. But, I'm trying to say that if you need dmg, sightstone is not the item to get. Whether your laner gets the kill or not does NOT matter. In the end, think of it this way: someone gets the kill and someone else gets the assist. Its both the gold value and exp that you're really after from the enemies' death. Also, if you pull a successful gank on the enemy laner , your ally gets to deny them cs.

If Sightstone didnt feel like such a waste of space in the inventory stat-wise, i'd be all for it, but right now that early 150hp and late 400hp alone barely helps anyone. Think; if you're going to buy it early, how is it going to help you get more impactful ganks? Sure you'll have a slight edge of MAYBE knowing where the other jungler is/isn't, but do you really want to gank a Katarina or Zed mid lane when at 6-7 minutes all you have is your jungler item and a measly 150 health? I sure as hell wouldn't, on most junglers I play (Sion/Skarner/Hecarim/Orianna/Kha'Zix) I usually want to increase my damage early to help their power spike at those levels. Same logic applies to pretty much every champion except maybe Lee and Jax, the ward-hoppers. AP will want to rush AP/mana regen, AD will want damage/MS, tanks will want defenses/MS or others. Sightstone provides literally none of that right now.

Lugg1 votes

It doesn't have to be your second item. I edited it for that.

Where is the 'depends on jungler' option?

I grab it on tanky guys or Rek'sai if I'm going cinderhulk.

GinoSoldier1 votes

But how much control do you really exert when you know you're statistically hindered by your counterpart who isn't weighted down by a Sightstone? If your counterpart heads top, sure you can follow and intercept, but your opponent highly likely stronger than you, so basically you're stuck to pinging a warning and either go and risk feeding or stay back and pray for your teammate. I'm saying that as someone who has so much impact on every lane it makes no sense at all to weaken yourself like that.

xLyo1 votes

depends. if game is in your favour, then i wouldnt rush it or i wouldnt buy it at all, if game is even or you loose, yes, vision can help you win the game

IcyPepper1 votes

Depends on the jungler, tbh.

I only build sightstone as the jungler if I'm playing with friends, or my team has shown that they are capable of buying wards and upgrading their trinket. Otherwise, I'm not really going to worry about it because I already buy a healthy amount of wards even with sweeper lens.

Should junglers be obligated to build sightstone? No. Laners upgrading their trinket and buying wards pre-9 should be stressed over it. Junglers should be buying wards and getting sweepers, but sightstone should remain optional.

Beddlam1 votes

It totally depends on the jungler: on tanky junglers that will scale off the HP it is probably worth it, not on others. Jungle is not just one thing, depending on the jungler and the champ, some are supportive, but some also carry. everybody should be contributing toward vision control, and sightstone might not be the best way.
