Why i wasted so much time learning to be a support?

I like supporting my team mates and i have dedicated a lot of my time on different supports to see which one fits my play style. For me it was always about either choosing soraka or janna as a support because they are forgiving of the ADC's mistakes.

So Soraka appealed to me the most in terms of supporting my ADC to the fullest. Currently i have over 100k mastery points on Soraka which shows my dedication to this champ.. I played and tested her in custom with various builds. I have done various calculation on her to make sure i could use her as effectively as possible in different situations/matchups. I only played draft/blind pick because in ranked your risking too much to try out builds or to practice a champ. I can still say that i am a noob with Soraka and she is not a spam W heal bot when she has to sacrifice 10% of her max health per W.

As a Soraka you constantly have to think about your positioning and what makes it even harder is that if your team mates mess up their positioning, you then either watch them die or rush into the danger zone to help. This conflict between when and when not to save a particular ally in different situations and constant challenge of positioning myself to help my adc as much as possible really proved fun play for me and rather challenging.

Then i found out that an item called Executioner calling exists and it's ridiculously cheap and applies grievous wounds by physical attacks (which reduce healing by 40%). A wise soraka player will not spam heals and watch her own health diminish to 5% but with this item i feel like i am wasting so much of my max% health to heal so less provided that i don't do damage whatsoever if i go to the healing route. Also that if i get hurt in the process i automatically lose the amount of healing i can do to my team mates unlike an adc that can deal the same amount of damage with full or half life. I was now ready to start ranked but i am afraid that this particular item will be abused against me and i know this item counters mundo, vlad, aatrox and other champs but personally the 40% reduction in their lifesteal is a much smaller amount than 40% reduction in heals of soraka that cost 10% MAX health. Executioner calling can be abused in lane because it is 800g only and with Attk speed and mortal reminder the enemy adc will just make me kill myself by healing for no reason as it constantly applies grievous wounds on my allies. Morello on the other hand applies it under 35% health only.

I have had matches where i healed so less that i felt like it was 4v5. I am not sure how this item will make me want to play soraka more and currently she is a very balanced champ. I don't know how riot is helping people to play supports more because i feel like abusing champs like velkoz, brand, annie, lux and etc in bot lane now. Lets face it, these burst mage supports are more of support carries than pure supports so they are played alot more agressively than for example a janna or soraka main would. Then riot can nerf the mages for being broken but don't realize it's the utility supports that need more attention

Well, I wouldn't say that you wasted your time learning how to support. You just learned that while you're comfortable on Soraka, there are items that make Soraka less effective. This is the first step into learning counterbuilds and stretching out your support skills to other forms, such as poke supports and tank supports.

Playing support for this long has given you some amount of game knowledge so far, such as warding patterns and map awareness; It's not all been for naught.

Burst champs like Lux, veig and etc at bot lane counter soraka really awfully because soraka cannot heal burst damage. I am worried that this item counters her so badly then it would be abused regardless of the matchup thus preventing me to play soraka even where i may have advantage over the enemies in terms of the match-up. The mortal reminder is a perfectly viable item on any adc and against an soraka it will work wonders. Do you get why i feel like i wasted my time on playing as soraka if not as supp?

No, not really. It's not like she'll be useless all the time.

Take, for example, my skill on Diana. I consider myself a Diana main, even though I don't get to play her all the time. Why don't I get to? Well, mostly because she just gets dumped on by some really annoying champions, like Brand or Swain. However, when I'm in a good matchup, say...versus a Lux or Katarina, I know I can absolutely crush my lane opponent. You see, even though I don't always get to play my best champion, it doesn't negate my skill with her, same for you. Even if you aren't always going to get to play her, you still have that knowledge and experience, and can assuredly exert dominance when you do get to play her.

Focus down the person that bought item 3123 right away, if it's in lane then farm under the tower.

This is rather difficult. I can't focus on anyone! So can't supports like janna and etc. I would have to rely on my adc to do that and seldom does the adc listen to me. I don't want to have to fight every game with an adc to focus this and that and that's partially why soraka appealed to me because she is forgiving of adc's mistakes. Support is just not fun if it's this much hassle.

Oh no, counterplay on a champion that endlessly heals.

That's the problem with some people. The 10% max self health sacrifice is put there by riot as a counter to soraka, so she can't endlessly heal. I just don't understand what part of that makes you think that there is no counter to her?

I am sure if you find healing so cancerous you would find lifesteal even more cancerous while it does damage it seeps through life as well so literally having no counter. When you see an akali heal 300+hp by AA a minion and killing it thereby then you will appreciate soraka more who sacrifices her health for healing ur ass.es.

She does have a counter, getting greivous wounds. It becomes full-circle.

The problem with her is her healing scales with missing health, so you may lose some of your health, but the adc will gain most of their's back. Then she has the global heal which also resets her own health.

Maybe you didn't read the posts below. GW is a counter to her, yes, but not the sole one. Soraka uses 10% max health every W which is alot. Her Ult is global heal but to compensate for that her damage is minimal if you go for the pure heal route. That is about 1-4k damage at the end of the game. She has great sustain but burst is her ultimate counter which most mages and all assasinns excel at. Once ADC is bursted, she is just an open wide target. Another counter is that she has no mobility and hardly any utility and is squishy. How many more counters you're seeking for? I won't play her anymore anyways, i'll settle with lux, veig, brand, velk as bot lane abusers.

That makes sense in that case. However, as we well know, lague isn't fair in how many counters a champ has (see any immobile champ)

Yh if a supp does bad the adc automatically rages at you. I rather stay away from toxic and play a viable supp at the current meta regardless of liking healing champs. Thanks for comment :)

If the adc has to build executioner's calling first then you've basically won the game already. They're going to deal no damage for the next half hour because they're an item behind where they should be.

Yh whilst i was moaning about soraka i actually looked forward to people telling me how soraka could play against with enemy who has ExeCalling. I might have to tell adc to go pure damage though if enemy builds EXecalling. However once enemy gets runan and mortal reminder, it will apply on-hit GW to 3 targets at once in team fights ( I believe). If that's the case maybe i should stop playing. I don't find her broken or anything hence why you'll hardly see any soraka's now but i play her because i like healing champs.
