I've noticed the same thing with Brand. His pillar does damage even if it pops in the middle of the alpha strike.

EndlessSorcerer2 votesAlpha Strike makes him untargetable, not invulnerable. If you want to see invulnerable, the ultimates of Kayle and Poppy are better examples.
It's possible that the OP was hit by Tibbers near the end of Alpha Strike's cast animation, so the damage and CC applied but Alpha Strike still occurred.

Untargetable, not invincible. It means you can't click on him. Skill shots and aoe can still hit him, although it's obviously much harder to land a skill shot while he's jumping around.
