What I Feel are This Season's Main Issues

This season was welcomed with open arms because of people hating Season 6, little did we know that we would hate this season even more. I've seen complaint after complain about this and I thought "It can't be that bad, can it? I'll still play the game." Nowadays, I can't stand playing the game. It may be tilt, I don't know (the last two games I played were losses) but I usually find some fun in the game. Now, it's just shit, even when I win.

#What are the Issues? I feel that most issues right now can be caused by damage, but that isn't descriptive enough. I feel the issues so far are:

  • Damage feels too high on everyone, leaving ADCs (the primary DPS class) at a disadvantage because tanks are able to deal enough damage on their own
  • Games feel so snowbally, it's almost toxic. Some people may like fast games, but this kind of fast game feels unfun
  • Towers die extremely quickly. Mostly bot lane tower, which has no extra resistances.
  • Champions being favored for their LCS potential to make flashy plays, but this is nothing new

I feel an issue that requires extra attention is Riot's balancing procedure.

#What's Wrong With How Riot Balances? Riot chooses to not directly change what needs changes. I've talked about this before, and it causes a fair share of issues. Riot did some direct nerfs recently, but we need a bit more. Let me give an example.

  • Talon feels weak in game, and doesn't work as well as some other assassins.
  • Instead of experimenting with Talon buffs or changes, Riot chooses to buff lethality.
  • Now other champions that do well with lethality such as Lucian and MissFortune have received substantial buffs that they don't really need.

Riot's trend of "not doing the right thing" is hurting the game. They've shown bias and ignorance in the past, but now it's just them not changing what needs to be changed.

#If a champion is causing issues with a part of their kit, nerf that part of their kit. #If a champion is underperforming, buff them and not items they use.

I don't balance games or anything, but what they're doing right now just feels like shit. Hopefully Patch 7.3 will fix some of the problems going on, but it doesn't seem likely. What do we need then?

  • Experiment with damage nerfs across the board, and see how it works.
  • Find champions that feel unfun to fight, and look into them. Even if they aren't overpowered, playing against champions that the community hates a lot isn't fun.
  • Buff bot lane tower to have the same resistance the other towers have, and if that doesn't work, change towers further.
  • Use high elo (Platinum, Diamond) to balance the game, and DON'T use LCS/pro play to balance the game. That leads to balancing the game around looking cool instead of playing cool. I don't care if this game is boring as hell to watch, I want it to be fun to play. That's probably just my lack of interest in pro play speaking, though
  • Be a bit more open to the community, mention and respond to problems and how you plan to fix them.
  • Mage supports can be alright, but maybe remove some power from their support role and give it to their mid lane role. Increase scalings and nerf base damage.

I just wanted to get this out there, I even waited a few days after my last game so my pure, unfiltered salt doesn't flow into my keyboard. If I get downvoted, upvoted, whatever. I'm putting my opinion on the internet, and I'd be glad to hear yours. Let's get some discussion going and hope Riot responds.

And before I finish, I want to say that I really do love this game. Riot puts so much effort into it, and I want it to get better than it is now. League is my favorite game, but I can't love the game as well with the state it's in.

The #1 problem is matchmaking.

If silvers in their promos were being forced to carry bronze 5's to get to gold, there will be an uproar.

Yet when plats are being asked to carry 50% win rate golds and diamond 4's can play in the same game as diamond 2's, there is nothing. Every game decided by autofill trolls who don't even allow you to support, because they want to troll.

Yeah, autofill feels like shit, I was more concerned about discussing the game itself and not the matchmaking. Autofill is just a bad idea, and having trolls doesn't help. Matchmaking could use a fix.

Autofill is fine, if people accept it as better than pick order OR at least ask to trade roles. Why would you REFUSE to trade roles when autofilled, and instead troll? That doesn't even make sense.

On the internet, people tend to be worse than they really are, since they feel they can't be judged. They feel that if they can't have it, no one can.

Riots balancing is so friggen bad. It's taken them 6 months to finally get around to Jayce. Hecarim has been a problem since midseason 2016(or whenever Riot did those ghost changes last year), still nothing. It took them a few months to finally get around to killing that Vayne 1-shot build. Now they've overbuffed Leathality and we won't get fixes for that for another month.

Snowballing has been too high since season 6 started, thats not really a season 7 problem as much as it is just a problem overall. Same goes for Towers being too weak.

I also disagree with the LCS bias part a little bit. Maokai Jayce Zyra are pretty boring champions to watch but are still common picks. Not denying that the LCS bias exists though, it's 100% real. But if it was the only thing Riot balanced around these guys wouldn't be in the meta. (Although nobody wants them in the meta to begin with)
