Stop building Rylais on Vel'koz
Rylais passive is useless on him. If you want HP go
if you want more AP go
. Rylais is one of the biggest noob traps on Vel'koz since the passive is effectively useless on him.

Assuming you mean the slow. Why is it useless? I don't play Vel'Koz, but I'm wondering if it's uselessness translates to some of the champs I do buy Rylais on.
Slows don't stack, and they get worse upon AoE skills. They changed slows a while back, so only the strongest slow applies. Vel'koz Q lasts 2 seconds at max rank. It's also a 70% slow making this item useless. AoE skills apply the 40% slow for 1 second meaning his ult (which already applies a 20% slow) will just be buffed by another 20% assuming you aren't combing correctly.

A big part of Vel'koz's kit is his W, and applying a 1 second 40% slow twice on that is a pretty good deal.
A 40% slow isn't enough of a stick for him to land the second half of his W. I've done this build before, and it doesn't work well.
SO you get more slows, and now you can rely on your entire kit to slow instead of trying to land your Q?
I mean, 100 AP and 400 HP are better stats than Liandry's unless you need the passive damage from the mask. Otherwise, nothing says you can't just build Deathcap after Rylai's anyway. >_>
He has much better build paths. His most universal build path, and what most pros follow is FQC, Sorc Boots (sometimes swifties), Liandries, Ludens, Void Staff, Situational (Usually Zhonyas, Deathcap, or more CDR). This reinforces his siege style of gameplay while also giving him insane tank/carry burst. You could put Rylais under situational, but Zhonyas/Deathcap/CDR are all more important and do more for his kit.
"But what if I am focused in a team fight?!"
"GG team not protecting me while I'm 1v5"
Rylais is still somewhat useful on velkoz
his passive proc counts as a single target spell
And yet your entire combo is only needed to land by landing your Q. The rylais isn't going to do anything for you while your Q is still slowing the target, and since the slow on his Q is the setup for the rest of the kit a slow isn't needed for the rest of his followup.
Why can't I build both, Vel'Koz needs survivability and cdr more than damage. Personally I'd want to cap cdr then go Liandry's/Zhonyas/Rylai's
Liandry's works well for Vel'koz come mid/late game due to his siege potential. Magic pen is huge comes mid game as it allows you to melt carries.
He melts carries with his base stats, and so long as he is building ap items in general he shreds tanks too. That's why I prefer tanky cdr vel'koz over glass cannon, and yes you should build liandry's before rylai's, but I'd still want both
Its like saying why shouldnt urgot build a rylais
BR0000 you get about 6 second slow on corrosive charge, also you dont need to care about having your shield up for Q slowing
Im one of those scrubs who play maximum debuff support urgod
puts a slow on his ult so they can't walk out of it so you get its full duration.
His ult has a slow
huh, did not know. TIL.
Most people are going to be dead by the time your entire combo is finished, so it's hard to notice :P It's probably good Vel'koz is getting changed because if you get hit by Q you're pretty much dead lol
It's actually not bad. I've been playing a lot of Vel'Koz recently and in perhaps half of my games I'll end up building it at some point. True the passive slow is somewhat wasted on his abilities that already slow. But the fact that it makes your wide AoE W now apply a slow is extremely useful. I usually buy it as a 3rd or 4th item if the enemy team is particularly mobile and dives a lot to our backline. It turns you into a peeling God and makes landing your combos ez-mode. I especially like it because your w now is hard to run out of and you will often get the 2nd explosion damage off on them meaning they are slowed a second time from the same spell. Also allows your w to proc the extra burn from
All in all it's not as bad as it seems. If nothing else, the extra chunk of HP does make a difference when I can get to late game with a ton of AP, true damage, slows up the yin yang, damage over time and over 3k HP.
