Tried it. Not viable. He may be as viable as Lissandra support — except actually a bit less (at least Lissandra has more reliable CC). His range is fairly short compared to other popular support mages. Mana costs are too hefty — especially if you get a full spell rotation off. Ryze needs to stack mana to be relevant. Only way to support your adc is through your single-target snare and possibly your ult — nothing really other than that, unless you build a Rylai's or something, which I don't really recommend on Ryze.

He's better off as a solo laner where he can get a consistent gold income.

However, don't let me stop you from playing Ryze support in normals with your friends or something. I do stuff like that sometimes.

If you're into snares, moving fast, shields, and stuff like that, I recommend playing the following champions as support: Karma, Lulu, Morgana, Lux (watch her mana, though — you can run out quickly if you're not careful). They are just a few of my favorite mage support (or makeshift support) champions.

Good analysis.

Thank you, friend. :)

I'm a support main, and I play mostly mages. Lemme know if you have any inquiries.
