I just realized the Iron division makes trying to climb way more grindy for bottom elo players

There was a Reddit threat that compared the ranked distributions of Season 8 to Season 9. One conclusion that was drawn is that the entire Iron elo is basically the same bottom percentage as Bronze V split into four tiers. This made me realize that if a player is theoretically in Iron elo, they now have to reach 100 LP and complete between 5 and 8 promo series to get into Silver. Some may argue that you shouldn't be bad enough to end up down there in the first place, but if someone does find a way down there, and then starts to improve, it would entail a pretty big increase in the amount of grinding they need to put in to get to silver than before. Mainly because promos are a toxic fucking coinflip unless you are so massively better than your elo that you're probably smurfing.

Iron is all cosmetic. Whether or not you climb is based off of mmr which is unchanged. The only difference it really makes is that smurfs end up with a low cosmetic rank while they are facing higher level players as a way to discourage amurfing.

If you improve some key fundamentals, getting out of iron isnt too bad.
