Don't even question people's builds, period.

Generally speaking, you just look like a dickhead. Best-case scenario is that you can claim that it's bad based off the 1-game sample pool that you've encountered it. Worst-case scenario the Lethality Lucian you've been shittalking for 20 minutes because "you're meant to build crit noob" instagibs you with his ultimate from complete safety.

Unless you play with the person building weird stuff regularly and it never works, don't even question the build. I've seen some pretty weird builds do ridiculous things, and I've built some weird things that worked for me for entire seasons (Guinsoo's + Gunblade + Abyssal into Tank Jungle Fizz was pretty good after its first rework at the start of last season). Hell, half the time the 'weird' build you're talking shit about was meta at some point and never actually got any worse (Magic Pen Tank builds are still incredibly strong even though that was more of a Season 3/4 meta).

Please uninstall. People need to use strategy in a strategy game. I have a right to complain about tank Teemo jungle.

You're straw-manning

The best case scenario is that you genuinely want to aid the person you're speaking to because you've gone through exactly what they're going through and have come to a conclusion that the build they are using would be better if they went with X.

seriously. it immediately puts your teammates in a defensive position. not only do you waste time typing, but even if they dont waste more time typing back it can still instantly tilt them or at the very least bring down the mood of the game.

people should just never use the word "why" with their teammates until the game is over. it only makes things worse. doesnt matter unless they're AD singed or something in which case they're an agent of chaos who has clearly targeted your game for their grim pilgrimage of bedlam anyhow, and your questioning them will probably make them chortle and say something like "no hablo ingles" in the chat

I disagree. If it's said cordially, I'd be happy to explain why I put something on my build, or why it's better than something they suggest. If they suggest something to improve the build and I agree with them, I'd be happy with the change.

It's the least I could do for pulling them out of their comfort zone with some of the bizarre champion-build combinations I play.

If they're a dick about it, I can always just report them later.

Theres definately times to question and or even request they build a certain item. Adc complaining about ww life steal for instance you could ask them to build exicutioners calling.
But theres definately a difference between "haha scrub why did you build this first" and "mf can you please build ecs calling next so we can beat ww in team fights"

There are players who will at least put up reasoning as to why a build was done, whether it be SR, TT, or HA. For my case as one of those exploratory players , as long as they are genuinely curious as to why I would run a particular build, I'd be more than welcome to engage in an explanation while being mindful of potential negativity that comes from it.

I could take a recent ARAM game as point of reference. Rolling Pantheon against an all AP composition. My runes and masteries were set for being able to flex either an AD or AP as I wouldn't know my opponents until the load screen. I opted to run AP as there was a lot of poke and burst invested into the opposing team. Running full MR tank would only soak but so much damage from the loaded AP and M.Pen built. And despite them being glass cannons as well running AD would have been an option. But that would have mitigated my E once I got close. I would probably get one W-Q and some of E in a AD combo and probably deal less than a connected R-W-Lich Auto in a AP combo. Most Ults were pretty much forced initiation or disengage as a result as well.

I didn't have a problem explaining all of that; my choice of running AP over AD given the comp we had, the comp they had, and my personal comfort. I feel that's justified. People are free to question a build or build order. I would and I'd be absolutely curious of it as long as it's not Ultimate Bravery degrees of building. It's when people conclusively single you out once it fails that it gets hard to handle. They're still right to question if they don't get it but once it gets to flaming levels, you might as well just stay to what your gut feels.
